Rolling Stones Magazine has named him the greatest guitarist of all times for many years. He is one of the most influential musicians of his time throughout his range of genres. Jimi Hendrix was also part of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, an English-American rock band that formed in 1966. The Jimi Hendrix Experience was made up of Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell and they were together until 1969. Jimi Hendrix died on September 18, 1970 in London at the age of 27. The official cause of death was recorded as inhalation of a barbiturate intoxication. Although Jimi is not alive anymore, he is alive in his music which is still very popular. Jimi’s Music One of my favorite songs by Jimi Hendrix is his song “Little Wing” from his second album Axis: Bold as Love. This song is my favorite because I feel like when I’m listening to it, I get lost in the music. I feel like I’m there with him and he’s singing it to me. I also love the lyrics. “Well she's walking through the clouds With a circus mind that's running round Butterflies and zebras And moonbeams and fairy tales That's all she ever thinks about Riding with the wind. When I'm sad, she comes to me With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free It's alright she says it's alright Take anything you want from me, anything. Fly on little wing, Yeah, yeah, yeah, little wing” My Favorite Jimi Hendrix Quotes “Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.” “I'm gonna put a curse on you and all your kids will be born completely naked.” When I die, I want people to play my music, go wild and freak out and do anything they want to do.” “I'm the one that has to die when it's time for me to die, so let me live my life, the way I want to” “Not necessarily stoned...but beautiful” This one is my all time favorite “I used to live in a room full of mirrors; all I could see was me. I take my spirit and I crash my mirrors, now the whole world is here for me to see.” Jimi’s Wealth Hendrix was paid $18,000 USD for his Woodstock Performance and given an additional $12,000 USD for the rigths to include him in the Woodstock documentary/movie. Jimi has sold around twenty million albums in the United States and eighty million Worldwide. Before his death, Jimi Hendrix’s manager had an insurance policy taken out on Jimi for a million dollars. Jimi Hendrix was obviously a very wealthy man. Reflections I chose Jimi Hendrix because I really like his music. I like the way he thought about things and how positive of a person he was. I also really like his style. I think Jimi Hendrix was very talented in many ways. He was very talented with the guitar which got him very far. But what I like most about his music is the words of his songs, they all seem free. It seems like you can feel his enthusiasm and how much he loved what he did. The death of Jimi Hendrix was really tragic and it makes me sad that he’s not alive anymore because I can only image how much more great music he would or could have made.
