LREDA Board Member Job Description
Position: President
Term: 3 years (after serving 1 year as President-elect)
General Time Commitments:
In-person meetings
 October, prior to Fall Con (2-3 days)
 March/April, location TBA (3 ½ days)
 June, prior to GA (2 days)
Video conference calls monthly in between face-to-face meetings
Board members are encouraged to participate in GA and Fall Con following the meetings (LREDA
representation for some portfolios)
General Board Position Responsibilities/Opportunities:
 Affirm, support, and advocate for LREDA mission and goals
 Be familiar with and follow the bylaws and Policies/Guidelines of the organization
 Attend and participate in collaborative, consensus building-based Board meetings
 Provide monthly reports in conjunction with meetings, and submit newsletter articles as assigned or
requested
 Serve as the liaison to LREDA committees, working groups, special projects and/or related UUA groups
in portfolio area
 Help monitor LREDA listserv for potential Board issues
 Maintain attention to the ongoing work of Anti-racism/Anti-Oppression/Multiculturalism, within the Board
and the organization as a whole, and monitor for inclusiveness
 Request reimbursements in a timely manner (complete policy available)
Position Goals: The LREDA President seeks to provide leadership in fulfilling LREDA's mission to promote
the religious growth and learning of people of all ages and advocate for and to support religious educators and
the field of liberal religious education.The President works with the Board to develop mission, vision and goals
for LREDA. The President has the responsibility of serving as the organization's liaison to the Unitarian
Universalist Association and to the other Unitarian Universalist professional organizations. The professional
organizations are Unitarian Universalist Minister's Association, Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network
primarily - although there may be an expanded relationship with other UU professional organizations, and UU
interest or affinity groups, as well as with the professional organizations of religious educators in other
denominations.
Specific Position Tasks and Timeline:
Tasks:
1. Within the LREDA Board, the President
a. coordinates monthly conference calls (in consultation with the LREDA Administrator who sets up the
calls and sends reminder emails)
b. sets the agenda for monthly conference calls
c. sets agenda for LREDA Board meetings (Fall Conference and General Assembly and March meeting)
d. coordinates and contacts all guests to the LREDA Board meetings as needed
e. coordinates LREDA Administrator contract discussion
f. communicates regularly with LREDA membership as part of the Board Communication Plan
2. At LREDA Annual Meeting and Membership Business Meetings the President
a. gives report
b. may preside at membership meetings
c. assists with worship at these meetings as needed
d. assists in agenda setting
3. The President represents LREDA at various meetings and in conversation with UUA and UU professional
associations, for example:
a. attends meetings of the UUA Board's Council on Cross Cultural Engagement (currently delegated to VP)
b. meets with the UUA RE/Resource Development staff team (in-person and telephone conversations)
c. be available for conversations/coordination with UUA staff to advocate for LREDA as needed
d. Skype guest appearance in Dr. Mark Hicks' Meadville Lombard Theological Seminary RE class
