Wild Frontiers has been in operation since 1991, and is a member of ASATA (SA), ATTA (UK), and AUTO
(Uganda), TATO (Tanzania) and ZTA & SOAZ (Zimbabwe). Operations and offices are based in South Africa
(Johannesburg & Durban), Uganda, Tanzania & Zimbabwe, and we offer safaris throughout East, Southern &
West Africa.
In Uganda, as well as the safari operation, we have a fleet of boats on Lake Victoria and on the Nile River at
Murchison Falls and our own lodges / tented camps in Bwindi National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and
a luxury mobile camp for private groups generally used in Murchison Falls or Queen Elizabeth. We are also
building a new lodge, BAKERS LODGE, in Murchison Falls to be open mid year 2013.
In Tanzania we operate seasonal tented camps in the Serengeti Central & North, and South. We also offer
quality mobile tented safaris – fully serviced “Explorer-style”; or “Adventure style” the latter limited participation
from guests. Lodge safaris, luxury fly in safaris, walking & hiking safaris and any combination of
accommodation styles are also available, and may be combined with a mobile safari.
Zimbabwe, we are completing building a brand new camp, PIONEERS CAMP, on the Zambezi River just outside
Victoria Falls. Comprising just 6 tents to start with, this permanent camp will offer a full range of safari services,
opening December 2012. We also operate a quality (Explorer-style, en-suite tents) mobile safaris as well as
lodge/permanent camps throughout the country. Walking, canoeing and other activities are also built into
itineraries on request.
We use the same vehicles throughout all our operations, landcruisers with game viewing hatches, frirdges or cool
boxes, inverters for charging, and very comfortable seats and are maintained in our own fully equipped
workshops. Our guides are experienced professionals, with a good knowledge of the flora and fauna of the
region. All vehicles are fully insured and carry all the necessary tools, first aid kits, safari reference books and
proper communications.

Queen Elizabeth National Park – Tented Camp safari
Four days / three nights
Tour Code: UG4QE
The park spreads over an area of 1978 km2 in the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley. It is a
home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, lions, hippos, buffalo, and Uganda Kob, baboons, chimpanzee,
and a large variety of birds, all typical of riverine and savannah habitats. In the southern part of the park is the
Ishasha area with tree climbing lions and the Maramagambo Forest, one of the largest surviving natural forests
in Uganda. The northern part of the park is traversed by the equator and is dominated by the scenery of crater
lakes with numbers of flamingos on occasion, and on clear days the backdrop of the Rwenzoris in the distance
Ishasha Wilderness Camp, is an exclusive tented camp in a less busy area of QENP, and offers superb game

SPECIAL INTEREST SAFARIS – UGANDA
Bird-watching Safaris in Uganda with Leading Ornithologists
With over 1000 bird species, including most of the 28 Rift Valley endemics it is fast becoming a popular
destination for African birding. We can tailor-make any length of safari, but our 12-15 day trip is designed for
general birders who are keen to see a possible 400 plus species including some of the Albertine Rift endemics.
Guests must be keen, reasonably fit, and prepared for some early starts and long days in the vehicle, and be
prepared for walking in steep areas of fairly high altitude. The Bwindi (Impenetrable) Forest National Park
home to half the world Mountain Gorilla population, said to be around 350-380 individuals. You will have an
opportunity to trek for these rare primates as well as forest walks for birding. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has a
bird list of over 380 species including most of the Albertine Rift endemics.
Other areas visited by Wild Frontiers in Uganda & Rwanda
We can tailor-make a safari to any area of this region, including Semliki National Park, Kidepo, and also cross the
border into Rwanda to offer cultural tours, additional game viewing areas and alternative gorilla viewing and
primate walks.
Nile Perch Fishing – Uganda – Lake Victoria & Murchison Falls
Since 1997 when we launched our first boat in Uganda, we have spent months on the lake and rivers, with
fishermen from all over the world (such as John Wilson, one of UK’s top anglers, and the late Charles Norman
from South Africa), catching huge Nile perch, plus lots of time spent up on the Nile at Murchison Falls. We’ve
even been along the Nile into Sudan in search of the best spots, and have found them!!! Our local guides are
the most experienced, and our boats and equipment the best available anywhere in the country.
LAKE VICTORIA FISHING TRIPS
Wild Frontiers Uganda is based in Entebbe and offers professionally run fishing trips on Lake Victoria. Nile Perch
range between 20-250 pounds in weight, the largest fresh water game fish in the world, (unofficial World Record
250.8 pounds caught in the Entebbe area August 1998). Trolling with lures is the main method of fishing, with
drift and live bait fishing an option. All the necessary fishing tackle for Nile perch trolling is provided, but anglers
are encouraged to bring their own favoured equipment. For our day trips, fishing is done around local islands
some 40 minutes by speedboat, from Entebbe.
Our boats include a 28 ft boat with twin 140 hp outboard engines, and a fully equipped 18ft ski-boat with twin
85hp motors. The boats normally come with skipper and gilly. Life jackets, flares and a mobile phone are
carried on board for safety. A basic first aid box is also carried on board. A cool box is carried on board to
accommodate drinks whilst out fishing. The boats are fitted with fish finders, GPS and all the necessary
equipment for Nile Perch fishing is provided. Fishing is by trolling with a maximum of 4 lines per boat. Tilapia
and Nile perch have also been caught on fly and Nile perch by casting from the shore.
MURCHISON FALLS FISHING SAFARIS
Sport fishing at Murchison Falls National Park is currently done in the area at the base of the Falls. The fishing is
either from the rocks on the bank of the river or slightly lower downstream in the pools from a boat. Fish
caught on live bait / casting lures include Nile perch and various species of catfish. There are also a large variety
of smaller species, (used as live bait), obtained by spinning, including tiger fish.

UGANDA WILDLIFE EDUCATION CENTRE – Visitors Programmes – Entebbe
Who we are:
The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) was formed in 1994 from the old Entebbe Zoo. This followed
years of neglect that resulted into serious breakdown of infrastructure and loss of valuable animals. The
government of Uganda recognized the need to set up an institution that would provide leadership in educating
Ugandans about the benefit of conserving the biodiversity of the country, one of the kingpins of the recovery
process that the country was going through, as a benefit to tourism, the second highest contributor to the
national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
What we do?
We offer numerous conservation education programs are offered both on-site and off-site, valuable internship
opportunities are offered to Ugandans and foreigners in CE and wild animal care. As a member of numerous
international organizations, UWEC also participates in knowledge building through contributing to scientific
researches and knowledge databases.
We undertake the following conservation roles in Uganda;

Rescue and rehabilitation of injured and confiscated wildlife since 1952. This service has been greatly
improved with the establishment of a fully fledged veterinary hospital and national CITES approved
quarantine. Successful release back to the wild has been done and we anticipate continuing to
undertake it so as to rejuvenate the wildlife population in different areas of the country.

Captive breeding of endangered wildlife species is one service that UWEC offers from time to time. A
number of Ugandan wildlife species have made the CITES list of endangered species and their survival
will be greatly impacted by efforts at breeding them in captivity and re-introducing them back in the
wild. UWEC is happy to expand this service in terms of technology and knowledge acquisition.

The model of conservation education promoted by UWEC is one that combines knowledge dissemination
with entertainment. UWEC is committed to develop its programs with entertainment of the public of
mind, all developed to cater for the general public with emphasis on young people. UWEC has
developed its facilities as a ‘Window on Uganda’, exhibiting the country’s attractions in an entertaining
manner and encouraging both local and international visitors to go out and explore and get involved in
sustainable management of their resources.
Entry is only USD10 !
Visitor Programs
Keeper for a day
Gain that long a waited work experience as an animal keeper! This activity will expose you to the practical and
hands on experience working with animals. As a keeper for a day, you will be expected to under take the
following responsibilities, together with your keeper counterpart;
Cost - USD150 for one day of up to seven hours starting at 7.30am. This includes entrance to UWEC
Behind the Scenes Programme
Experience the thrill by going beyond just watching the animals. With the behind the scenes programme, one
gets to visit the holding facilities or exhibits, food preparation areas, the pharmacy, quarantine facility,
workshops, taking part in rescues etc.
There is no health requirement for this activity as we will ensure that there is no direct contact with animals.
Cost – USD70 for one programme of approximately two hours. It includes entrance fees to UWEC for the day
Chimpanzee Close Up
The activity is aimed at giving members of the public a unique experience of coming close to our close relative, if
one meets the heath requirements. We believe that it is through people appreciating and getting to know the
chimps that they will be inclined to undertake positive actions that enhance the chimpanzee survival as well as
habitat protection. We start the exercise with a general briefing of why chimpanzees are at UWEC, the dangers
they face in the wild, why they are so like us. This is done by our chimp caregivers.
21
Be prepared to hold or carry them while on the exercise. The chimpanzees have a very close attachment to
humans and can be very playful. They will try to groom you and in return want to be groomed too. It’s a very
rewarding experience being close to your next of kin, as well as scanning through your infant days, because
chimpanzees are so like that.
Cost - 1 hour is USD 260 From 7.30am – 8.30am It includes entrance fees to UWEC.
Keeper Specialist Tour
Allow a UWEC keeper to give you a tour filled with exciting insight. Benefit from his experience and get the full
lowdown on the individual animals and their little quirks. Put away your binoculars as he talks the rhino over to
the fence, hear the full story of the orphaned chimpanzee that arrived yesterday, and find out why it is so
difficult to feed a 4-month-old baby elephant. In just a few hours, you will learn facts and stories that will stay
with you for life.
Cost – USD30 per person (more than 8 persons) or USD40 per person (for less than 8 persons) this includes
entrance fees to UWEC
Long Stay Volunteer Program
You will enjoy being part of the dedicated team, as well as work like a staff member. The visitor will work on a
schedule of a minimum five working days and 8 hours a day and is required to be a resident at the centre. The
fees paid therefore cover the accommodation, meals and airport transfers.
Cost – USD625 per week or USD2500 per month including entrance fees to UWEC
Student Placements
We are aware that there is no school to study and gain experience. That is why we have designed this short
program to give young people a boost of their career. The minimum of this placement is a week and maximum is
two months. It is open to undergraduates and those refocusing their career to conservation.
Cost – USD500 per week or USD2000 per month including UWEC entrance

WILD FRONTIERS UGANDA
WE NOW OPERATE 100% CARBON NEUTRAL SAFARIS AND LAKE VICTORIA FISHING
We have gone “Carbon Neutral” on our Safaris and Lake Victoria boats for the year 2011 with the help of the
Uganda Carbon Bureau Ltd. This was made possible through the purchase of carbon credits from the Bushenyi
Plan Vivo project - Trees for Global Benefits project.
With the threat of climate change and its serious impacts on the planet, more and more individuals,
organisations, diplomatic missions, companies and countries are looking at ways in which they can reduce the
impact of their greenhouse gas emissions. We chose to do our part by measuring our energy use, trying to find
ways of reducing it and finally offsetting our unavoidable emissions.
There are many projects around the world that create carbon credits. In Uganda there are already several
hydropower, tree planting, forest conservation, energy-efficient stoves and other projects that are generating
such credits. The Uganda Carbon Bureau only sources credits from Ugandan projects.
WHAT IT TOOK US TO BECOME …
The Uganda Carbon Bureau assessed our carbon footprint from our fuel use in safari vehicles and our Lake
Victoria boats over the past 12 months, using the best international standards they determined the amount of
carbon credits that were required to offset our emissions.
We then purchased Plan Vivo credits from the Trees for Global Benefits project in Bushenyi, which is a
smallholder tree-planting scheme just south of Queen Elizabeth National Park. It’s supervised by ECOTRUST 1 and
complies with the respected Plan Vivo2 voluntary carbon credit standard, which is independently audited by the
Rainforest Alliance.
Bushenyi project
In this scheme, farmers plant trees that will capture and store carbon from the atmosphere. Organisations then
buy carbon credits from the project to balance out their current greenhouse gas emissions.
The farmer's trees capture an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide to the greenhouse gases that are emitted
through our fuel use, thus making us Carbon Neutral.
The project helps the environment by increasing biodiversity, protecting watersheds and in preventing soil
erosion.
It also increases household incomes through the payments for the carbon that is stored, and offers financial and
technical advice to farmers.

The Uganda Carbon Bureau is now advising us on ways in which we can save energy in all our operations, and
lower our greenhouse gas emissions.

“EXPLORER-STYLE”
Exclusive Mobile Safaris
(Previously known as AUTHENTIC SAFARIS)
The modern version of the style of the past - like the gentleman explorers Baker, Stanley and Baines. We've
replaced the ox-wagons and bearers with custom-made 4x4 safari vehicles and professional guides, but you still
have your private mobile camp, personal staff of chef, waiter and support crew, home cooked meals and en-suite
bathrooms inside your spacious tent - your own private wilderness experience. Improvements in modern camp
equipment, lighting, refrigeration, linens etc allow a quality lifestyle under canvas in the wilds of Africa, whilst
maintaining that ‘pioneering’ feel.
This style of safari allows complete flexibility of design and to stay in remote areas, in comfort.

Serengeti Walking Safari – Seven Day Itinerary
Tour Code: TZ7 - WLK
Tanzania National Parks have opened up some great Wilderness Areas for walking safaris, and we are one of the
few operators walking here. The below trips have been designed to allow for 3 days on foot, as well as some
vehicle based game viewing, and of course we visit Ngorongoro en route.
We walk in a wilderness area of the Serengeti eco-system, with armed National Parks guide and our guides,
without a vehicle in sight! The safari is fully backed-up, with the support vehicle going ahead of the guests and
setting up camp in private areas.
Our safari travels into the best areas of this game-packed region, camping amongst the game with the sounds of
the African bush all around as well as getting out on foot for three days, actually IN the Park, with a lightweight
camping rig and crew to support you. At the end of this document we detail equipment used and other logistics.
Longer & shorter walks on request.

Hiking & Walking Safaris in the Ngorongoro Region
Introduction
We have developed three walks/hikes in the Ngorongoro area, each one vastly different to the next in terms of
the terrain covered and the type of scenery you will enjoy during your walk. The full itinerary for the ‘EmpakaaiNatron’ itinerary is detailed below, but at certain times of year we recommend other routes briefly described
below. Full itineraries of all three options are available on request. Pricing for all three hikes will be the same,
and each trip includes four days of hiking as well as game viewing as detailed below.
Itinerary One - Serengeti, Ngorongoro to Lake Natron Hike including time to climb
Oldoinyo Lengai - 11 day safari
This safari includes a visit to one of the wonders of the world, Ngorongoro Crater, as well as a scenic hike with
Maasai and donkeys as back up, from the highlands of Ngorongoro, into Empakaai Crater (where flamingos often
congregate in their thousands), culminating with an optional walk up an active volcano, Oldoinyo Lengai (only
available for seasoned climbers). This is a challenging trip and we will be camping in remote areas during the
hike.
Itinerary Two – Ngorongoro - Endulen – Ndutu walk, plus Serengeti safari
This option includes a four day walk from the highlands of Ngorongoro down to the Ndutu plains of the Serengeti
(but still within Ngorongoro Conservation area). At certain times of the year, namely Feb-March, this area is
generally filled with wildebeest as they drop their calves on these short grassy plains. On this walk, we will be
crossing into the Ndutu region in the hope of finding the big herds!
Itinerary Three – Olduvai (Oldupai) Gorge–Shifting Sands–Nasera Rock–Oldoinyo Gol Mnts
This walk takes you around some beautiful kopjies, starting from the famous Olduvai Gorge. We have selected
this walk to operate in March, to coincide with the anticipated movement of game.

Mount Kilimanjaro – Umbwe Route via Barafu
Tour Code: KILIUMB6
One of the least utilised routes up the mountain. This is probably the most beautiful route by which to ascend
the mountain, and is significantly shorter than the other routes, whilst having good acclimatisation time. It also
makes the distances covered between overnights at altitude shorter and avoids a lot of the crowding experienced
in some sites in season. A variation on this route with additional nights to acclimatise is needed if guests wish to
overnight in the crater.

& USD170 – 190 any seven day camping route), drinks and items of a personal nature, personal equipment.
Airport transfers and shuttle bus optional extra.
PLEASE NOTE
SOLO climber rate - This includes single room supplement at the hotel, single tent supplement on mountain, and
solo climber supplement, i.e. to climb privately, not part of a group. Should you request for an individual to
join a group, we cannot always guarantee the availability of others to climb, and therefore retain the right to
charge the solo rate should we be unsuccessful in finding others to climb with your client.
SET DEPARTURES vs PRIVATE CLIMBS – MOUNT KILIMANJARO
Due to popular demand, we offer departures on the Marangu, Machame and Umbwe routes throughout the year.
When you book, kindly advise if your guests would like a PRIVATE or GROUP departure. Should it be the latter,
we will endeavour to put them with other guests on the climb itself. Generally, Saturday arrival (Sunday climb)
is the most popular days of the week as such we can more readily put your guests with others over the
weekends.
Your consultant will confirm with you if your clients will be climbing with others or not, and the approximate
group size during the booking process. We cannot guarantee a group departure, as certain times of the year
are busier than others – and should you guest be travelling alone, then the solo / single supplement would still
apply.
LADIES ONLY KILIMANJARO CLIMB – MACHAME ROUTE
And SINGLE PERSONS KILIMANJARO CLIMBS
Several departures have been scheduled for ‘ladies only’, as well as a ‘singles’ only climb. This will be on the
well-known camping route, MACHAME route – a six-day hike. Refer to rates section.

"Explorer Style" - Exclusive Mobile Safaris - Description
The modern version of the style of the past - like the gentleman explorers Baker, Stanley and Baines.
We've replaced the ox-wagons and bearers with custom-made 4x4 safari vehicles and professional
guides, but you still have your private mobile camp, personal staff of chef, waiter and support crew,
home cooked meals and en-suite bathrooms inside your spacious tent - your own private wilderness
experience. Improvements in modern camp equipment, lighting, refrigeration, linens etc allow a
quality lifestyle under canvas in the wilds of Africa, whilst maintaining that ‘pioneering’ feel.
This style of safari allows complete flexibility of design, to stay in remote areas, in comfort.
CHILDREN POLICY - SCHEDULED DEPARTURES
On our scheduled departure dates, the policy is that only children of 16 years and above will be permitted to join
a scheduled departure (with an adult/guardian). This has been implemented out of courtesy to other guests.
However, if you have a family / group of four persons, it is cost effective to travel privately - on any date!

TOUR: Zimbabwe – Machibi Safari - Upper Zambezi & Hwange, 6 days
Scheduled & Private Departures
Tour Code: Z-MACH6
This safari takes in the highlights of the Upper Zambezi as well as Hwange National Parks, and gives guests the
opportunity to add on a few days in Victoria Falls to enjoy the history and some of the optional activities
available here.
The Upper Zambezi is a beautiful park with the Zambezi River as its natural boundary to the north. The river
itself is a playground to elephant, often seen in the water, and of course a life-source to many species of game
during the drier seasons. There are numerous heavily wooded islands along the River’s course and lots of
narrow channels with a few tiny rapids for those contemplating some canoeing. Birdlife along the river’s shore is
spectacular.
Our safari takes you into this pretty park and allows time to explore by vehicle, and if guests would like to also
on foot and by canoe (these are optional activities available during your stay).
We then travel to Hwange for three nights, and take time to traverse this park – looking for the large herds of
buffalo and elephant often seen here, as well as a variety of predators and plains game. Hwange National Park
covers over 14,600 square kilometres and is Zimbabwe’s largest reserve, hosting 105 mammal species. The
population of African wild dogs to be found in Hwange is thought to be of one of the largest surviving groups in
Africa today.
The camp will be in a private site and will feature large (3.5 x 6m) en-suite tents, with all bedding etc supplied.
You will be sleeping on comfortable camp beds, and hot showers will be provided. A small mess-tent for meals
and shade is available with proper chairs and tables. Our safari chef will prepare a sumptuous meal, but do let
him know of any special dietary requirements in advance!

Tailor-made and Speciality Safaris
Plus Guided Small Group Departures
Over the years we have become known for the more unusual destinations in Africa, and we can easily assist you
with tailor-made itineraries combining Southern with East and Central Africa.
Areas such as Selous and Ruaha in Southern Tanzania, and Gombe Stream or Mahale for chimpanzee safaris
bordering Lake Tanganyika. Central Africa Republic – primates and birders paradise.
Horseback safaris, combined with hiking trips, or top quality fly-in safaris mixed with adventure travel – we can
easily assist you with any of the more difficult tailor-made requests you may have. Uganda combined with
Kenya safari, or even Ethiopia!
Bird watching safaris, primate safaris, even butterfly safaris!!! We have access to a range of specialists who will
guide groups on special interest tours. Technical climbs up Kilimanjaro, Kenya or the Ruwenzoris can also be
arranged using top guides.
GUIDED EXPEDITIONS & NEWLY ESTABLISHED PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARIS
Since the mid 1990's we've operated specialist guided trips to various areas - Congo, Uganda, Tanzania etc either with our own chosen specialist guides, or on behalf of specialist guides themselves. The guides we chose
are chosen for their experience, qualifications, and - importantly - their ability to "make things happen " in Africa,
and of course their excellent guest relations.
In many cases, you will be travelling with our own vehicles / boats / local guides and crew - and staying in our
some of our own camps - allowing us to effectively manage the whole operation. We actually OPERATE the trips,
rather than coordinating. In other areas, we will be making use of the ground services of a select group of
operators with whom we have long term working relationships, some reaching back over 20 years - we are
confident you will be well looked after in their hands.
Contact us with your specific requirements and we will be happy to send you a full proposal.
