Job Description Exeter Phoenix MARKETING & PRESS MANAGER (Maternity Cover) 7 month fixed-term contract, 4 days a week Responsible to: The Director Responsible for: Design Officer, Marketing Assistant Principal Aims To raise Exeter Phoenix's local, regional and national profile. To increase Exeter Phoenix's audience, client and visitor numbers. To maximise Exeter Phoenix's sales and sponsorship income. To manage the marketing budget and output of the marketing team. To line-manage and develop the marketing team. Specific Duties Strategic Planning To manage and develop an overall marketing and press strategy for Exeter Phoenix as a ground-breaking, cross-disciplinary arts organisation. To develop and implement specific marketing and press plans for each of Exeter Phoenix's individual departments and their activities (Music, Art, Performance, Film, Digital, Learning). To devise specific marketing and press plans to reach Exeter Phoenix's key target groups (i.e. students, families, sponsors, businesses etc.) To devise specific marketing and press plans to increase the profile of the Café Bar, Space Hire and the Exeter Phoenix Ticket Agency. Overall Marketing and Press Activity To manage the planning, production and distribution of Exeter Phoenix's printed and digital communications (brochures, flyers, press releases, emails). To manage and further develop Exeter Phoenix's website. To further develop Exeter Phoenix's social media activity. To manage Exeter Phoenix's customer database(s) - in line with the Data Protection Act - and maximise direct marketing opportunities. To develop and evaluate specific marketing and press campaigns for annual events such as Exeter Contemporary Open, Acoustica music festival, Two Short Nights film festival and a children’s winter theatre production. To ensure the implementation of Exeter Phoenix's branding and logos across the organisation and its partners, promoters and other affiliates. Fundraising To exploit new fundraising opportunities. To generate income through advertising and distribution services. To maintain good relationships with current sponsors and pro-actively seek new partnerships. To work in partnership with other arts organisations on collaborative fund-raising projects such as Exeter Cultural Partnership and Exeter Live. Staff Co-ordination To work closely with the Visitor Services Manager to ensure excellent communication and customer service at all levels. To work closely with the Visitor Services Manager to maximise data capture opportunities and ensure effective evaluation from the box office and front of house team. To manage the work of the Design Officer and the Marketing Assistant. Person specification – Marketing & Press Manager E = Essential, D = Desirable Knowledge An understanding and knowledge of the arts E A local, regional and national press contact list D A working knowledge of sponsorship procurement D A working knowledge of one or more box office ticketing system(s) D Experience of working with a website CMS D Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills E Ability to set and prioritise objectives and manage a heavy workload E PC and /or Mac literate E Proof-reading and editing skills E Numeracy and budgeting skills E Creativity and flair D Experience At least 3 years’ marketing experience in a managerial role E Extensive experience of people management E Experience of managing and delivering press campaigns E Experience of creating publicity materials E Experience of leading social media campaigns E Experience of securing sponsorship and brokering business partnerships D Experience of working within the arts sector D Qualifications Marketing based qualification or related discipline Terms Salary - £22,000 pa (pro-rata to 4 days a week, 30 hours) Holidays – 24 days pa (pro-rata) Contract - 7 months fixed-term maternity cover April 2013 .
