Weighted Grades
• All freshmen level courses have the same regular weight.
• Certain CHS courses will carry a weighted GPA (Grade Point
Average) value to give students a small boost to their GPA for
earning a passing grade in a weighted class.
Graduating with Honors
must complete 8 full semesters
4 credits
English: including Eng II Advanced, Eng III Advanced, and AP English Language &
Composition
3 credits
Math: at least two semesters must be selected from Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus
AB, or Probability & Statistics
3 credits
Science: including Biology, Chemistry and one of the advanced science courses: Anatomy &
Physiology, AP Chemistry, or Physics

Consumer Education: Consumer Economics, Economics, Agriculture Business Management,

Principles of Business Management
Students meeting course requirements and finishing in the top 10% will be recognized as “summa cum laude”

Scheduling
• The high school builds its master schedule based
on the student class requests; the master schedule
is then used to determine staffing needs and
number of sections for the school year. Only
schedules that require correction due to
inaccurate information or a verified schedule
conflict will be changed.
Scheduling Timeline
• January 19 – Presentation to 8th Graders & Parents
• January 20 - February 7 – Parents and students review Registration Handbook &
Course Descriptions and complete the Freshman Course Selection Tool.
• February 8 - 16 – Counselors will be at the middle school to meet with students,
answer questions, review Registration form, and input course selections. Students
need to bring the completed worksheet with them. Parents do not need to attend.
• February 19 – Course verification forms due.

Physical Education
• Physical Education - 3.5 credits is required
• Weights - Teacher/Coach recommendation is required
• Health – ½ credit required for graduation
Students may be exempt and waive PE for the following reasons:
• Participation in the Marching Band
• Participation in ROTC
• (grades 11-12) ongoing participation in interscholastic athletics
• Student must enroll in academic classes which are required for
graduation and for admission to an institution of higher learning
provided that failure to take the course would result the student being at
risk to not graduate or denied admission
• Stated in the student’s IEP
Driver Education
• All students are required to provide their social security # and birthdate
• Driver Education course fee of $100
• $20 fee payable to the State of Illinois
• Illinois mandates 30 hours of class work, six hours of driving, six hours of
observation time , 50 hours behind the wheel with a parent
• Must complete the classroom portion before they are permitted to
complete the driving phase
Business
• Computer Concepts & Software Applications
• Information Processing (SWIC) - - must have taken CCSA first or
successfully completed Technology A & B at CMS
• HTML (SWIC) - must have taken CCSA first or successfully completed
Technology A & B at CMS
• A $20 vocational fee applies for each course
Agrisciences
Freshmen may take as elective credit or science credit the following….
• Basic Agricultural Science - Counts as a Science credit
• Introduction to Agricultural Industry

• Biological Science Applications in Agriculture (Animals & Plants) grades 10-12
• Veterinary Technology (grade 12)
• Agricultural Business Management - meets consumer education grad requirement
(grade 11)
FFA
• Students receive ¼ credit for the successful completion of their SAE record book.
• Although participation in FFA is not required to take an Ag class, it is encouraged.
Individualized Education
• Special Education courses are chosen based on the student’s
IEP (Individualized Education Plan) which is developed
annually by the IEP team.
