Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri

Task for Lahiri’s Interpreter of Maladies

 Determine a theme that is echoed in at least two of Lahiri’s short stories. In a one-paragraph response of 250- 300 words, create an assertion based on your identified theme. Using textual evidence, argue your assertion.

Example format for assertion (the words in bold are an example of a theme statement):

 In [name of short story] and [name of short story] life lacks meaning without love.

Format of paper:

 Assertion

 Set quotation in context

 Quotation

 Analyze quotation to argue assertion

Papers must

 be double spaced.

 be typed in size 12 font.

 include your name and word count as a header.

 William Golding’s Lord of the Flies

Task for summer reading choice novel- These novels typically appear as choices on the AP exam for question number 3

 Choose one of the novels listed above.

 Read and annotate the novel. Look for literary devices and themes.

 Do not read Cliffs Notes or SparkNotes.
