JOB DESCRIPTION:
POST NATAL WARD
 Receives endorsement from the outgoing shift;
- Patients present in the unit.
- Medications and treatment of the patient to be carried out.
- Check all the equipment’s in the unit whether they are functioning or not.










- And Bed Making.
Make rounds and check babies tag, sex, and other record.
Provide nursing care to Post-Partum mother.
Take the four hours TPR and other vital signs especially on highly febrile
and seriously ill patients.
Observe for Post-partum hemorrhage.
Assist doctors in their daily rounds and carry out order promptly.
Accurate and intelligently.
Proper administration and treatment to the correct patient, wherein you
should take note the five rights in giving medications.
Chart all pertinent observations, procedures carries out, medication and
treatment, evaluation of patients after all procedures had been carried out.
Report any abnormalities to attending physician.
Physical assessment of Neonatal infants, routine newborn care, cord care,
eye care and circumcision for male baby.
PROCEDURES
 Pre-op preparation for cesarean patients; like giving enema, shaving,
start IV line, Catheterization, V/S and psychological support.
 Episiotomy and perineal care for normal delivery.
 Giving blood transfusion without any complication.
 Giving IV antibiotic through soluset with heparin lock.
 Blood extraction for newborn with jaundice; blood sample of CBC,
SB, BLOOD GROUP, for septic workup sample of BLD C/S CRP
and CBC.
 New born care with hyperbilirubin; baby’s inside incubator under
single or double, triple phototherapy, plus bilibed.
 Taking BP of four limbs, O2 saturation and bring to X-Ray and to
ECG department for the baby with heart murmur.
RECOVERY ROOM

Maintain patient’s airway, Administration of Oxygen, Check gag reflex.

Position patient for adequate ventilation; Observe for adverse signs of
general and spinal anesthesia.

Monitor v/s every 15 minutes until stable.

Maintain patient’s intravenous flow.

Examine dressing and surgical drains for bleeding.

Suctioning patient if necessary.

Flushing catheter and other tubing’s whenever necessary.

Report or refer to surgical resident any adverse sign manifested by
patients.
OB CASES
 Normal Delivery, IVF pregnancy, Pre-eclamptic, Puerperal Pyrexia,
Abortion, Pregnancy Induce Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Normal
Delivery with Hepatitis positive, Evacuation.
OTHER INFORMATION
 Familiar in Handling Hospital Apparatus or Equipment such as;
Suction Apparatus, Built-in O2, Nebulizer, ECG Machine, BP
apparatus, Stethoscope, Glucose test, Incubator, Phototherapy,
Warmer, Breast pump machine, O2 saturation machine.

cap QID, Aldomet 500mg TID, Folic acid tab OD, Ferrous Sulphate tab
BID, Apresoline Drip, Keflin 1gm IV TID, Flaggyl 500mg IV TID,
Fortum 1gm IV TID, Ampicillin 500mg IV QID, Augmentin 1.2 gm IV
TID, BCG 0.05 ml, Methergin tab/inj., Indicid supp., Voltaren Supp.,
Glycerin Supp., Xylocaine gel 2%, Zinc Oxide, Insulin Mucolyte Syrup,
Actified Syrup, Duphalac 30cc HS.
 Provides direct nursing care to assigned patients by utilizing the nursing
process, in accordance with nursing standards and with reference to
medical treatment, orders.
 Complies with ethics of nursing and demonstrates professional conduct
and behavior.
 Maintains a clean, orderly, therapeutic environment for patients care
and adopt appropriate safety precautions as necessary implementing
infection control measures as required.
 Assures patients their rights to confidentiality, privacy, dignity and self
respect.
 Administers medication and therapies in a safe, timely and effective
manner, complies with legislation and corporate regulations in the
administration and control of narcotic substances.
 Documents patient care in accordance with Nursing Standards of
Practice to reflect application of nursing process.
 Assists in maintaining cost-effective use of equipment and supplies.
 Maintains current nursing knowledge base to enhance patient care and
to improve clinical practice by attending in service education programs.
 Supports and encourage new staff, assists with their orientation where
practicable, develops teaching skills for this purpose.
 Undertakes other duties as directed by the Head Nurse or designee, and
cooperates with other personnel to achieve the goals and objective of the
unit.
