The pioneers of the teaching of science imagined that its introduction into education would remove the conventionality, artificiality, and backward-lookingness which were characteristic;of classical studies, but they were gravely disappointed. So, too, in their time had the humanists thought that the study of the classical authors in the original would banish at once the dull pedantry and superstition of mediaeval scholasticism. The professional schoolmaster was a match for both of them, and has almost managed to make the understanding of chemical reactions as dull and as dogmatic an affair as the reading of Virgil's Aeneid. The chief claim for the use of science in education is that it teaches a child something about the actual universe in which he is living, in making him acquainted with the results of scientific discovery, and at the same time teaches him how to think logically and inductively by studying scientific method. A certain limited success has been reached in the first of these aims, but practically none at all in the second. Those privileged members of the community who have been through a secondary or public school education may be expected to know something about the elementary physics and chemistry of a hundred years ago, but they probably know hardly more than any bright boy can pick up from an interest in wireless or scientific hobbies out of school hours. As to the learning of scientific method, the whole thing is palpably a farce. Actually, for the convenience of teachers and the requirements of the examination system, it is necessary that the pupils not only do not learn scientific method but learn precisely the reverse, that is, to believe exactly what they are told and to reproduce it when asked, whether it seems nonsense to them or not. The way in which educated people respond to such quackeries as spiritualism or astrology, not to say more dangerous ones such as racial theories or currency myths, shows that fifty years of education in the method of science in Britain or Germany has produced no visible effect whatever. The only way of learning the method of science is the long and bitter way of personal experience, and, until the educational or social systems are altered to make this possible, the best we can expect is the production of a minority of people who are able to acquire some of the techniques of science and a still smaller minority who are able to use and develop them. 11. Astrology (line 31) is mentioned as an example of a) A science that needs to be better understood b) A belief which no educated people hold c) Something unsupportable to those who have absorbed the methods of science d) The gravest danger to society e) An acknowledged failure of science Ans: c Directions for Questions 17-20: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage. Furthermore, insofar as any conclusion about its author can be drawn from five or six plays attributed to him, the Wakefield Master is without exception considered to be a man of sharp contemporary observation. He was, probably clerically educated, as indicated by his Latin and music, his Biblical and patristic lore. Even today he is remembered for his his quick sympathy for the oppressed and forgotten man, his sharp eye for character, a ready ear for colloquial, vernacular turns of speech and a humor alternately rude and boisterous, coarse and happy. Therefore in spite of his conscious artistry as can be seen in his feeling for intricate metrical and stanza forms, he is regarded as a kind of medieval Steinbeck, indignantly angry at, uncompromisingly and even brutally realistic in presenting the plight of the agricultural poor. It is now fairly accepted to regard the play as a kind of ultimate point in the secularization of the medieval drama. Therefore more stress has been laid on it as depicting realistically humble manners and pastoral life in the bleak of the west riding of Yorkshire on a typically cold night of December 24th. After what are often regarded as almost ''documentaries'' given in the three successive monologues of the three shepherds, critics go on to affirm that the realism is then intensified into a burlesque mock-treatment of the Nativity. Finally as a sort of epilogue or afterthought in deference to the Biblical origins of the materials, the play slides back into an atavistic mood of early innocent reverence. In actuality, the final scene is the culminating scene and also the raison d’etre of the introductory ''realism.'' Superficially the present play supports the conventional view of its mood of secular realism. At the same time, the ''realism'' of the Wakefield Master is of a paradoxical turn. His wide knowledge of people, as well as books indicates no cloistered contemplative but one in close relation to his times. Still, that life was after all a predominantly religious one, a time which never neglected the belief that man was a rebellious and sinful creature in need of redemption . So deeply (one can hardly say ''naively'' of so sophisticated a writer) and implicitly religious is the Master that he is less able (or less willing) to present actual history realistically than is the author of the Brome Abraham and Isaac. His historical sense is even less realistic than that of Chaucer who just a few years before had done for his own time ''costume romances,'' such as The Knight's Tele, Troilus and Cressida, etc. Furthermore, used highly romantic materials, which could excuse his taking liberties with history. 17. Of the following statements, which is not true of Wakefield Master? a) He and Chaucer were contemporaries. b) Wakefield Master is remembered as having written five or six realistic plays. c) His plays realistically portray the plight of the country folk of his day d) His writing was similar to that of John Steinbeck. e) He was an accomplished artist. Infosys visited our college on 2nd December 2010. This time once again they had the same selection procedure, with written exam being the main filter. With just over 180 candidates appearing for the exam only 20 made through it and then 14 were able to convert it into final selections. Exam was in two parts: 1. General Aptitude (Reasoning) 2. English General Aptitude: 1. Figure Analogy(5 bits, very easy) 2. 5 questions on data sufficiency (very easy) 3. 5 on data interpretation (Very Tricky) 4. 2 Group reasoning Problems(Very difficult i didnt able to solve 7 out of 10 questions) 5. 5 Questions on logical linking of two given statements(easy) 6. No question on syllogism! English: 1. 2 RCs (Easy, but do it at the last) 2. 8 choosing the correct sentence (Difficult) 3. 7 on error correction (easy) 4. 8-10 questions on Sentence completion (Very easy) 5. Theme Detection (Tricky) All in all, a candidate must have a good command over the language and just going through the Articles, Prepositions etc. on the last day won’t work. After written exam, only HR of about 15-20 min on an average were taken which include very general HR questions, specially related to the CV and the candidate’s personal life only. Anyway, 14 were selected in the end and iam happpy for being one of them. To summarise, Infosys selection needed just good aptitude and better language command, so make sure that you acquire both well before Infosys. See you at Infosys, Bye. Hi Friends, I am Shiva from AITAM, Tekkali (Srikakulam Dist), AP. I have attended the Infosys campus interview conducted at our college, Tekkali, AP. As a young Portuguese noble, he served the king of Portugal, but he became involved in the quagmire of political intrigue at court and lost the king's favor. After he was dismissed from service to the king of Portugal, he offered to serve the future Emperor Charles V of Spain. A papal decree of 1493 had assigned all land in the New World west of 50 degrees W longitude to Spain and all the land east of that line to Portugal. Magellan offered to prove that the East Indies fell under Spanish authority. On September 20, 1519, Magellan set sail from Spain with five ships. More than a year later, one of these ships was exploring the topography of South America in search of a water route across the continent. This ship sank, but the remaining four ships searched along the southern peninsula of South America. Finally they found the passage they sought near a latitude of 50 degrees S. Magellan named this passage the Strait of All Saints, but today we know it as the Strait of Magellan. One ship deserted while in this passage and returned to Spain, so fewer sailors were privileged to gaze at that first panorama of the Pacific Ocean. Those who remained crossed the meridian we now call the International Date Line in the early spring of 1521 after ninety-eight days on the Pacific Ocean. During those long days at sea, many of Magellan's men died of starvation and disease. Later Magellan became involved in an insular conflict in the Philippines and was killed in a tribal battle. Only one ship and seventeen sailors under the command of the Basque navigator Elcano survived to complete the westward journey to Spain and thus prove once and for all that the world is round, with no precipice at the edge. 1.The sixteenth century was an age of great ___exploration. A. cosmic B. land C. mental D. common man E. none of the above 2. Magellan lost the favor of the king of Portugal when he became involved in a political ___. A. entanglement B. discussion C. negotiation D. problems E. none of the above 3. The Pope divided New World lands between Spain and Portugal according to their location on one side or the other of an imaginary geographical line 50 degrees west of Greenwich that extends in a ___ direction. A. north and south B. crosswise C. easterly D. south east E. north and west 4. One of Magellan's ships explored the ___ of South America for a passage across the continent. A. coastline B. mountain range C. physical features D. islands E. none of the above 5. Four of the ships sought a passage along a southern ___. A. coast B. inland C. body of land with water on three sides D. border E. answer not available 6. The passage was found near 50 degrees S of ___. A. Greenwich B. The equator C. Spain D. Portugal E. Imaginary line parallel to the equator C. area D. land mass E. answer not found in article Comprehension 2 Thinking out of the box is one skill, among all other skills, that has shot to prominence. How about a novel approach to help think differently, or out of the box? Crossword-solving is one of the lesser-known approaches to thinking differently. A crossword grid usually has white & black squares in the ratio of 70:30 and sufficient no. of across and down clues to help you fill the white ones. Just as in any other game, one needs a strategy to solve a cross word. A seasoned cross word solver rarely reads the clues in the order presented. As part of the game plan or strategy to avoid straight jacketed thinking, the solver usually ha s a quick glance at the structure of the grid and at the clues to “get the feel” of the greed and forms a quick strategy to solve the crossword. The best part is that with every new grid, the solver has an opportunity to apply a new strategy and learn from past experiences, thereby refining his thinking process and pattern. It is this self-assessment & self feedback that makes solving crossword so fulfilling and amusing. The crossword is one of those rare games that test your knowledge and interest in any and every area of life. Conventional education and work pressure leaves us little time to catch up with a lot of things that exists in this world, thereby limiting our arena of thought. Crossword- solvers get a wonderful chance to delve into newer vistas of life, expanding their mental arena each day. The tidbit of information one acquires essentially does two things: makes the solver realize how little he knows of the world outside his own and a bit more humble. With the brain introduced to newer and newer wor(l)ds with every new grid, the solver essentially is “expanding the size of the box”. The beauty of a crossword lies in the quality of its clues. A good crossword grid provides clues that strive to tease and challenge the mind to think at a tangent. It demands of you to appreciate different meanings of the same thing still known in management jargon as creativity and innovation. In fact a good crossword has clues that tax your brain for quite a while and, when you eventually crack them, you tell yourself “wasn’t that obvious?”. Let’s take an example. Clue: salty letters (*A*L).Just in case you couldn’t crack that, the answer is NACL. Similarly the answer for the clue “Makeup man” could be LIAR. It is evident smart clues make you think tangentially or out of the box. Crossword challenge over-confidence. One may solve numerous crosswords and gradually develop preconceived notions about a particular clue, not knowing that this time it may be different. For example, you may know that the answer for the clue “Capital of India(5)” is Delhi. However it is also a possibility that the answer is Rupee. If you think you have learnt the trick, try this one: three-letter word for “Capital of Zimbabwe”. Well, don’t get annoyed, the answer is “Zee”. So solving crosswords asks us to challenge our own time-tested assumptions. It demand thinking out of a different box. While crosswords can help us think differently, that holds true only for god quality crosswords. Lay off grids that you crack in a jiffy. Even if some clues look Regionspecific, the quality of a crossword makes it worth the effort. While a good vocabulary helps solve crosswords, it is a misconception to believe that one can’t do without it. Solving crosswords is much more about thinking than it is about memorizing words and their meanings. All said and done, you need enormous patience and diligence to really get the best out of solving crosswords. As with life, good things take a long time to happen. 8.With the brain introduced to newer and newer words with every new grid, the solver essentially is “expanding the size of the box”.What do you infer from this statement? a)Crosswords differ in size b)we get to enrich our vocabulary by solving crosswords. c)A regular crossword solver expands his knowledge of the world through words. d)Our conventional education does not help us explore the world. 9. How can can make up man and LIAR be related? a)A make up man can disgusted people and fool others b)When a person makes up something,it means he is trying to utter falsehoods to save his skin c)When you cannot be present somewhere you make up for your absence by sending someone else. d)When you have missed classes you make up by studying harder 10. According to the author you need all the following to solve crosswords EXCEPT? a)A greatdeal of patience b)A passion for solving them c)great knowledge d)A good vocabulary 11. It can be inferred from the passage that a)The author is passionate about crosswords b)Today’s youth has no patience for crosswords c)Crosswords are a waste of time d)Crosswords have lost their orginality 12. The idiom to think out of the box in the passage means a)to be conventional b)to be overconfident c)to be able to decipher different connotations of any stated thing d)not to look clues Comprehension 3 Marie Curie was one of the most accomplished scientists in history. Together with her husband, Pierre, she discovered radium, an element widely used for treating cancer, and studied uranium and other radioactive substances. Pierre and Marie's amicable collaboration later helped to unlock the secrets of the atom. Marie was born in 1867 in Warsaw, Poland, where her father was a professor of physics. At the early age, she displayed a brilliant mind and a blithe personality. Her great exuberance for learning prompted her to continue with her studies after high school. She became disgruntled, however, when she learned that the university in Warsaw was closed to women. Determined to receive a higher education, she defiantly left Poland and in 1891 entered the Sorbonne, a French university, where she earned her master's degree and doctorate in physics. Marie was fortunate to have studied at the Sorbonne with some of the greatest scientists of her day, one of whom was Pierre Curie. Marie and Pierre were married in 1895 and spent many productive years working together in the physics laboratory. A short time after they discovered radium, Pierre was killed by a horse-drawn wagon in 1906. Marie was stunned by this horrible misfortune and endured heartbreaking anguish. Despondently she recalled their close relationship and the joy that they had shared in scientific research. The fact that she had two young daughters to raise by herself greatly increased her distress. Curie's feeling of desolation finally began to fade when she was asked to succeed her husband as a physics professor at the Sorbonne. She was the first woman to be given a professorship at the world-famous university. In 1911 she received the Nobel Prize in chemistry for isolating radium. Although Marie Curie eventually suffered a fatal illness from her long exposure to radium, she never became disillusioned about her work. Regardless of the consequences, she had dedicated herself to science and to revealing the mysteries of the physical world. 13. The Curies' ____ collaboration helped to unlock the secrets of the atom. Earlier, β was pronounced as ‘b’. Now in Modern Greek it is pronounced as ‘v’.It took a long time to develop the letter. There were many greek dialects and there were certain differences in their style of writing. Lastly the lonian style of lettering was adopted. In general and after 400 BC the letters became uniform. The literature and art flourished mainly in the classical greek period. Although the dialects of Greek were mutually intelligible within a normal limit of understanding, the pronunciation of words and accents differed from period to period and from dialect to dialects. The short and long sounds of vowels also varied in different dialects and the political situations in the country also brought many changes with the inter migration of the dialects. But, during the establishment of Alexander’s empire in the 4th century BC and after the breakdown of old political barriers, uniformity took place in the spoken language. This form of language was called the Koine (means the common language) or Hellenistic Greek (400BC- 600AD). It replaced the other dialects and the speaking and writing systems were much standardized. Grammar also changed in different periods. A change of language is noticed in the writings of Plato and Demosthenes. The spoken language still kept on changing even during the period of Byzantine empire(500-1500AD) and the written language kept on improving which created a big rift between the local vernacular and the literary greek. This situation gave birth to a separate kind of “demotic” language of general everyday use. All the major phonological and grammatical changes which are seen between koine and the modern greek mostly happened within this period. Earlier there were 3 numbers for pronouns and verbs, singular, dual and plural. Then “dual” was dropped and only singular and plural were left. From ancient Greek to modern Greek the formation of many words were also changed. For example the ancient Greek word pente(5) became pende, hepta and octo (7 and 8) became efta and okhto, paidia(boys) became pedhya and so on. There were also semantic changes in certain words just as : the word alogho which was previously meant irrational, later it meant “horse”, “skiazome” which previously meant “I am in shadow”, later it meant “ I fear”. The vocabulary of greek language consists of local collections and borrowings. Considering the origin of Greeks , there were many Mycenaean words in 2nd millennium BC whose original form corresponded to certain greek words like Leon (Lion), onos (Ass), plephas (ivory) etc. By using pre-verbs, by forming compounds and by adding prefixes or suffixes to this prime words they enriched their vocabulary. Later on they also borrowed a considerable number of word from other sources, such as, Italian, Turkish, French and also Latin. 20.What is the drawback of the Greek dialects in spite of their being intelligible? a)it employed a vowel system b)it took a long time to develop the letter c)the pronounciation ans accept different from period to period and from dialect to dialect d)There were difference in their style of writing 21.There came uniformity in the language with a)The breakdown of old political barriers in the 4th century B.C. during the establishment of Alexander’s empire b)the variation in the long and short vowels c)the changes that had occurred in the grammar d)the intermigration of dialeces 22.What was the cause of the rift between the local vernacular and the literary Greek? a)the change in the writing of Plato and Demosthenss b)the adoption of the Phoenician graphic alphabet c)the differences in the style of writing of Greeek dialects d)the spoken language kept changing while there was improvement with the written language 23.How was the vocabulary of the Greek language enriched? a)by forming compounds, using pre-verbs and adding prefixes and suffixes to the main words b)by local collections and borrowings c)with the use of of many Mycehaean words d)with the semantic changes in certain words 24.Which of the following statements is/are true, according to the passage? a)many European language have words borrowed from the Greek b)demotic language came into being because of the rift between the vernacular and the literary form of Greek c)In the Modern Greek, there is only one dialect a)A only b)B only c)A & C d)C only Comprehension 5 Mount Vesuvius, a volcano located between the ancient Italian cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, has received much attention because of its frequent and destructive eruptions. The most famous of these eruptions occurred in A. D. 79. The volcano had been inactive for centuries. There was little warning of the coming eruption, although one account unearthed by archaeologists says that a hard rain and a strong wind had disturbed the celestial calm during the preceding night. Early the next morning, the volcano poured a huge river of molten rock down upon Herculaneum, completely burying the city and filling in the harbor with coagulated lava. Meanwhile, on the other side of the mountain, cinders, stone and ash rained down on Pompeii. Sparks from the burning ash ignited the combustible rooftops quickly. Large portions of the city were destroyed in the conflagration. Fire, however, was not the only cause of destruction. Poisonous sulphuric gases saturated the air. These heavy gases were not buoyant in the atmosphere and therefore sank toward the earth and suffocated people. Over the years, excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum have revealed a great deal about the behavior of the volcano. By analyzing data, much as a zoologist dissects a specimen animal, scientist have concluded that the eruption changed large portions of the area's geography. For instance, it turned the Sarno River from its course and raised the level of the beach along the Bay of Naples. Meteorologists studying these events have also concluded that Vesuvius caused a huge tidal wave that affected the world's climate. In addition to making these investigations, archaeologists have been able to study the skeletons of victims by using distilled water to wash away the volcanic ash. By strengthening the brittle bones with acrylic paint, scientists have been able to examine the skeletons and draw conclusions about the diet and habits of the residents. Finally, the excavations at both Pompeii and Herculaneum have yielded many examples of classical art, such as jewelry made of bronze, which is an alloy of copper and tin. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius and its tragic consequences have provided us with a wealth of data about the effects that volcanoes can have on the surrounding area. Today volcanologists can locate and predict eruptions, saving lives and preventing the destruction of cities and cultures. 25.Herculaneum and its harbor were buried under ___lava. A. liquid B. solid C. flowing D. gas E. answer not available 26. The poisonous gases were not ___ in the air. A. able to float B. visible C. able to evaporate D. invisible E. able to condense 27. When I was just sitting outside, waiting for my turn for the interview, the lady HR came out; I immediately stood up in her honor. Though this isn't necessary at all, but it casts a positive impression on the interviewer beforehand. Also. sit straight and don't shake your legs or sit cross-legged as this casts a negative impression on the interviewer. Me: May I Come in Ma'am? HR: Yes, Come in Anuj. Me: May I have a seat Ma'am? HR: Yes Please. Me (Sitting): Thank You Ma'am. HR: Please fill up this form. Me:(filled) HR(with my answer sheet in her hand): Anuj, you have scored exceedingly well in the English section, but you seem to have marginally passed in the Quants section. Why so? I mean, going by your Computer Science background and seeing your Resume, I would have expected you to score better in the Quants than in English. Me(Shocked):Ma'am I suppose I may have fared reasonably well in both the sections, and this is the reason, why I have been called for this interview. I stressed more on the English section during preparation and also that some of the questions in the Quants paper were totally new to me. HR: Which books did you study for this exam? Me: Replied. HR: Did you practice it only in the last week? Me: No. I started preparing for this exam, around 2 and a half months back; its only in the last week that I brushed with all that I had learnt. HR: Did you practice it in writing or did you just skim through the topic? Me: No Ma'am. i thoroughly practiced all these books in writing. HR: How do you study? Me: Told HR: Did you give any mock tests for this exam? Me: Yes. HR: What was your performance in the Englis Section of those mock tests? Me: I had a score of around 80-85% in English section. HR: And in the Quants section? Me: I had roughly the same score and accuracy, but it took me more time to attempt the Quants section vis-à-vis the english one. HR: Ok, what project have you made so far in your final year? Me: Told. HR: What has been your role in it? Me: Told. HR: How far is it complete? Me: Told. HR: What inspired you to make this project? Me: Told HR: What was your mentor’s view about this project? Me: Told. HR: Which co-curricular activities have you participated in? Me: Told HR: Ok Anuj, It has been very nice, interviewing you, All the best for your future. Me: Ok, Thank You Ma’am. As every one know that Infosys contains two rounds i.e 1) Written test 2) HR round Written test: The written contains two sections i.e reasoning and english, reasoning is very easy, they will give 30 questions in 40 mins, one can easily do 25 questions if they has regular practice, the cutt off for reasoning is around 18 to 20, i.e 60 to 65 %. Friends my suggestion is you first concentrate on the cutt off marks i.e , our target is to do 18 questions in 40 mins which was very easy, then go for single option we can clear easily the reasoning. Next was english which was very tough, they will give 30 questions in 30 mins, in which two large passages are given which takes more time, but good news is that the cutt off is 50 to 55 % i.e 12 to 14, my suggestion is first concentrate on passage, we can get easily 10 marks there and put one option remaining and we can clear easily. HR round: The infosys H.R persons are very cool persons, they are around 50 to 60 years, my HR Madam was very nice. Me: May I come in Madam HR: Yes Hemanth come in Me: Thank you Madam HR: Take your seat Hemanth Me: Thank you. HR: Give your copy of Resume Me: Given HR: What have you done for these 3 months after completing your B.Tech Me: I told about my IAF interview process, she impressed by my explanation HR: Yur hobbies Me: Told, by giving my strengths, she again impressed HR: Hemanth, why are you so fast, do you want water Me: Yes Madam. HR: Being EEE side why you are coming to software side Me: I already prepared for this question, she impressed by my answer, then the whole process turned as two friends talking to one another, I was very happy that I did very well, the HR interview continue for another 10 mins, with general topics like projects, and our acheivements. HR: Any questions to ask hemanth. Me: Yes Madam, 1) What is cloud computing 2) Wheather we have to go for any courses before training 3) How was my interview HR: Explains clearly for all my questions, and said it was really very nice talking to you Hemanth Me: Same feeling Madam. After HR round the Infosys people came and said, the results will be mailed after 3 weeks, on 17th December exactly around 11 am I received a mail from Infosys with a offer letter, at that time I was so happy and my eyes is filled with with tears, by the blessings of god and my family and my friends and my hard work brings sucess for me. Friends I didn't crack TCS (HR), CTS, L&T, and finally I cracked the Infosys, and i'm very happy to be part of Infosys. Its my life and I made it large, finally Hemanth became an Infoscion. I hope my experience will give you certain knowledge about Infosys, all the best friends, meet you all in Mysore campus. Bye.. I attended infosys recuritment drive (through jkc) on 24th March, 2011. So the pattern of Infosys which mentioned in previous papers as same. First of all before starting written exam we have pre-presentation activity that may takes nearly one hour(explained company details by HR). After that written exam wouid be started. Patteren like this 1: logicol reasoing(30ques-40min) 2: verbal ability(40ques-35min) First of all reasoing paper given that consists structure like this 1-5 (three figures given those are some arrangements and fourth given as questoin mark and Select a suitable figure from the Answer Figures that would replace the question mark (?).this type of questions are in indiabix the exact part is non-verbal reasoing analogy part) 6-10(simple puzzle) 11-15(data interpertation more calculations require) 16-20(data suffiency ) 21-25(did not say complex but some wat tough puzzle) 26-30(syllogims) so after 5min gap verbal paper was given that consists like this 1-8(spotting errors) 9-16(choosing apprapriate sentence from the given options) 17-23(sentence filler ,sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms e.t.c will be given) 24-30(about theme detection) 31-35(small passage) 35-40(lenghthy and tough so u go question to answer) totaly after 75mins answer sheet collected and result announced afetr three hrs sectional cuttoff may be reasoing 60% and verbal 50% based on requirement of those. one thing would remind that if u need compulsary placement in infosys u can do the written paper espacially verbal its look like simple and also answers are nearly same but picking of best one is main thing so do those with another people or with team. All the best guys! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hello Friends. I am Vipin Kumar from MMEC Mullana. I am sharing my experience with you about the joint campus placement drive by Infosys. It was held in Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana. Four colleges were there: MMEC, Rayat, BabaBanda Bahadur and One More. In all about 1500 students appeared and nearly 300 students were selected. and 156 was from Our College. The procedure was simple. Only aptitude and HR. Aptitude The aptitude test started at 11:30 am. At first, reasoning question paper was given. it had 30 questions to be done in 40 minutes. It was all reasoning. Just 1 or 2 questions of quants were there. First five questions were on Odd Figure Selection. they were very easy(practice them from R.S Aggarwall). Next it was a Quesion regarding n/w of nodes and there were some question regarding finding of shortest path b/w different nodes Next there were 5 questions on data sufficiency. they were also easy. Again it was a puzzle. It was very -very easy. Next again there were six questions of syllogism. four were very easy two are average bcoz they contain negative statement. Reasoning is very -very easy . Just practice from R.S Aggarwal Verbal & Non Verbal reasoning. You need not to practice Quant for Infosys Paper. just Practice From R.S Aggarwal Verbal & Non Verbal reasoning. English After reasoning english paper was given. it had 40 questions to be done in 35 minutes. It was little bit tough. It had questions based on finding errors (very easy Refer Hari Mohan Prashad for 90 rules to find error and its enough) sentence completion ( very easy Refer Hari Mohan Prashad) . Two unseen passages (Difficult. My Suggestion to u is to read english newspaper daily then u will be able to conclude passages) Inference Question(Difficult. Again my suggestion to u is to read english newspaper daily then u will be able to conclude such questions) The english paper was balanced one. Not so tough not even easy. The aptitude test was over at 12:45 pm. Then the results for our college were declared at 5:30 pm. And I was one among those who cleared aptitude test. HR Interview The interviews started at 11:30 pm in the Night. I wait for 10 hour nearly and my interview strated at 11 pm. At my turn, I went inside the room. Interviewer was a Old man. he asked me to sit down. I thanked him. Then he asked for resume. I gave him. then looking my percentage he said" How u manage such high percentage" To which I replied. Then he asked about the my schooling, city. He asked how u manage ur time. why inf should select u. Then he said "interview is over. u want to ask any question." interview lasted for only 5-6 minutes. It was 2:00 AM in the night and we all were desperately waiting for the results in seminar hall and Result was announced and i was one of them. 156 students were selected from our college. So guys I hope this will help you a lot. One thing i want to tell u again Prepare only from R.S Aggarwal Verbal & Non Verbal reasoning and Hari Mohan Prashad.(its enough) CAT material is more than enough. Students having good communication skills have advantage. The criterion was 65% in btech and 60 % in X and XII. Good %age is important for infosys. So Guys going Mysore. See you there. All the best and believe in God. The Greatest Infosys company has been visited my college at 25th Jan, 2010. Hello I'm Giri from Tirupur. I was placed in Infosys. I proud of this Pattern: First introduction of a company. Then she (HR) told a eligibility criteria. 10th and 12th % :above 60% and UG % is above 60% (nill arrears must) Process: Aptitude test is first round. Study R.S.Aggarwal material (Quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning) If you have TIME material also study this. And a must one is Basic Comupter knowledge. Study the important topic: 1. Average 2. Percentage 3. Time&distance 4. Pipes and cistern 5. Train5.picture identify 6. Data interpretation Verbal: 1. Fill in the blanks 2. Active voice, passive voice There is no negative mark Then I was clear a Written test. Next round is HR. HR is female. Me: May i come in mam? HR: Yes come in Hr: please sit. Me: thank u mam. HR: ok giri tell me about ur self. Me: i tell something about me. HR: Why ur choosing infosys? ME: i tell something about infosys. HR: whats ur outside interest? Me: i told my hobbies. HR: tell me something about ur project. ME: told my project details. HR: Smile..OK..please wait outside Me: Thank u mam. The result was announced with in 1 hour. I was selected. If you have any questions regarding it. Please submit below. It was held in Lingyas university, Faridabad. Three colleges were there: Lingyas, BSAITM and Apeejay. In all 661 students appeared and nearly 110 students were selected. The procedure was simple. Only aptitude and HR. Aptitude The aptitude test started at 11 am. At first, reasoning question paper was given. it had 30 questions to be done in 40 minutes. It was all reasoning. Just 1 or 2 questions of quants were there. 1 question was from geometry based on circles, tangents and quadirilateral. First five questions were on series/pattern. they were very easy. Next it was a puzzle. A,B,C,D,E,F,G are buses. Monday to Friday , train B leaves at 6 am, next bus leaves after 45 minutes, next all the buses leave after 45 min. On sunday the order of buses is same but time gap is 1 hour. Bus G goes 2nd, E goes after C etc.etc. It was a simple one. 5 questions were on this puzzle. next there were 4 questions on data sufficiency. they were also easy. Again it was a puzzle base on 8 people sitting around a round table. A similar to this is in RS Aggarwal. It was easy. Next again it was a puzzle. its language was little bit tricky. it had 4 questions. And one more puzzle was there. it was little bit tough. it had five questions. it was like, A,B,C,D,E,F,G are teachers teaches english , geography, maths, sanskrit, physics, plo science and history and were from kolkata, delhi, pune, lucknow, punjab, bihar, MP. a teacher from kolkata does not teach maths. B teaches english but not from delhi. etc etc. It was simple but lenghty... A similar to this is also in R.S Aggarwal. It was simple but bcoz of 4 puzzles it became time consuming. Time management and accuracy are important. Aptitude is not tough at all. Just practice from R.S Aggarwal. English After reasoning english paper was given. it had 40 questions to be done in 35 minutes. It was little bit tough. It had questions based on finding errors which were quite tough. Questions from Syllogism were very easy. Practice from R.S Aggarwal. Fill in blanks with correct option. And Two unseen passages First passage was difficult and second was very easy. Just check both passages and do the easy one first. Again time management is the key to success. Do passages in the last. Also take a look at active/passive and prepositions. The english paper was balanced one. Not so tough not even easy. The aptitude test was over at 12:15 pm. Then the results were declared at 2:30 pm. And I was one among those who cleared aptitude test. HR Interview The interviews started at 4 pm in the evening. I wait for 1 hour nearly and my interview strated at 5. At my turn, I went inside the room. Interviewer was a young lady. She asked me to sit down. I thanked her. Then she asked for resume. I gave her. then looking my percentage she said" you got 79.5 %, were u a topper?" To which I said" I missed the chance three times by one, two and six marks. I am still trying to get that position". then she said all the best and i thanked her for wishes. Then she asked about the projects, problems faced. Some basic questions about the database (MS ACCESS) which I used in one of my projects. At one of her questions about database I said that I dont know the answer. She asked question about the research paper. Then she said "interview is over. u want to ask any question." interview lasted for only 10 minutes. The result were declared separately for each college. It was 7 in the evening and we all were desperately waiting for the results in seminar hall. A lady came in with TPO of our college. She first did a normal chat with us. then she said " do u have any questions?" To which we asked abt training and package. She said that training will of 4-6 months and it would be in mysore. the package they offered is 3.5 lakhs. then she started calling names of those who were selected. She was calling names one by one. For a considerable amount of time i didn't hear my name so i thought perhaps i am am not selected. But suddenly she called my name and i was surprised and so happy to hear my name. 16 students were selected from our college. So guys I hope this will help you a lot. Prepare from RS aggarwal. CAT material is more than enough. Students having good communication skills have advantage. The criterion was 65% in btech and 60 % in X and XII. but preference was given to more than 70% marks in btech. Good %age is important for infosys. So Guys going Mysore. See you there. All the best and most impotant be confident and believe in God. Infosys Paper (for Freshers) We had pool campus at EAST point college of engg. 3 colleges had participated. Infosys head of HR department comes and start making announcements Please for heaven’s sake, for your own sake speak a presentable English, you need not be a super English teacher. From our college all 16 (who cleared written round )got selected. Hello Friends, I'm Arijit from Future Institute of Engineering & Management Kolkata. Infosys came at our college on 19th Jan '11. Reporting was at 7.45 in the morning, proceedings started at 9 am. Mr. Dinesh presented a ppt explaining company profile and objectives. Please listen carefully(it may be a bit boring). Next we were sent for the aptitude examinations. Before the exam starts, you need to fill up a form with your educational qualification, personal details like name, address, phone no, email id etc. It's extremely tricky, so be careful and follow their instructions. Keep 1 copy photo and your mark sheets with you for filling up the marks, percentages etc. don't make any mistakes. Coming to the aptitude exams, Analytical & Logical Analytical and logical reasoning part consisting of 30 qusetions in 40 minutes time. From the very first moment hurry! i) 5 figure puzzles(odd one out, easy) ii) 5 DI questions(a table was given, calaculations are time consming, R S Agarwal is more than enough) iii) 5 Data sufficiency(mathematical conclusions were given 2 statements 1 conclusion ) iv) 5 puzzles(A and B plays tennis, cricket. B and C plays cricket, volley etc. who plays what? Agarwal is more than enough) v) 5 syllogisms(3 premise, Consult R S Agarwal, Draw venn diagram if you can, I couldnt ;-) vi) 5 puzzles again (Agarwal is enough, chapter: puzzle test) Cut-offs are generally 60% Verbal reasoning Verbal reasoning consisting of 40 questions 35 minutes Again time is very important. Solve carefully. Concentrate. i) Two passages were given. I read the short one. The other passage was very long. I first read the questions and picked the answers from the passage. Otherwise you will lose time. ii) Questions like deriving conslusions from passsages(4-5 lines) iii) Choosing the correct sentences. iv) Choosing the incorrect sentences. v) Replace part of a sentence from 4 given sentences. (bit difficult) See, in Infosys good marks in the english paper makes the difference. Cutoffs are generally 50-60%. I was a bengali medium student. So don't be afraid. After the examinations were over we were told to wait. Results came out. 450 students appeared in the test. 134 cleared the written exam. Now the interview experience. Interview From our college 134 were interviewed, 125 got selected. So you can see once you are through with the written exams, chances become very high of getting selected. NO technical questions. It was evening when I was called for Interview. Its normal for one to get a bit nervous, but don't get too anxious. I got so tensed that I made a mess of my interview in Cognizant the other day. Enter the room with a smile on your face(hope you know it). I was asked to enter the room. She was a lady interviewer. Me: May I come in mam? HR: Please come in. Me: Good evening mam. HR: Good evening. Please take a seat. Me: Thank you. HR: Just give me a moment.(she was going through my form, my answer sheet and my resume). HR: Ok, Arijit, what does your father do? Me: Told. HR: Do you have any siblings? What do they do? Me: Told. Asked something more about my family, Where do I live, How do I come to college, What do I do apart from studies etc. HR: What sports do you play? How do you compare the experience with the real life? Which one needs nore effort? Why did you chose studies, and did'nt concentrate on playing? Me: Told. (She liked my answers) HR: Tell me what are the projects you are doing. Me: Told.(emphasize on a project which you know well, but remember they don't care about your proect, they wants to see whether you can communicate or not) Asked something more about my project. Absolutely non technical. HR: Ok Arijit, you can go. Wish you very good luck in future. Me: Thank you mam. HR: Thank you. It was only for 10-15 minutes. Freshersworld.com will help you a lot. You need not to be super good in english. Speak in simple basic english. Maintain eye contact all the time. Infosys HR persons are very very very friendly and humble. My interview experience was great! Finally 125 got selected. Hi Friends, Infosys campus selection has three steps. 1) Ppt: They presented it at 8:30 am, it was a one and a half hour presentation where they provide various reasons for people to join infosys. Well, I hadn’t had a good sleep the day before hence I slept the max of the ppt session. 2) Aptitude test. It consisted of two sections: a) Reasoning: Probable cut-off 60% total marks 30, time 40mts difficulty level of this section was moderate. Anyone who practices previous Infosys papers and R.S Aggarwal verbal/nonverbal reasoning regularly can clear this part. Some questions were tricky but thinking in right direction will help you clear those questions. As far as I remember the reasoning questions consisted of the following sub-sections. i) Find the odd figure out iii) Data sufficiency iii) Syllogism (quite tricky) iv) Some quant questions (easy) vi) Data Interpretation (bar graph) b) Verbal: Probable cut-off 50% total marks 40, time 35 mts The verbal portion was not at all easy regular english news paper reading helps a lot. Practice unseen and sentence correction, blank fill ups from Aggarwal/vikas Aggarwal English book. An english medium background helps but I was not from an english medium school. i) Correct sentence ii) Rephrasing iii) Fill in the blanks iv) Inference v) 2 paragraphs (one short and one long) See the options and decide which paragraph has direct questions asked. Do that first, then do the second. Don’t leave both the para as it will help you clear the cut-off Out of 360, only 83 students were fortunate to clear the cut-off 3) HR Interview: It is the easy part. The HR people are very good. My interviewer was 60-65 years old. He was very friendly and I never felt uncomfortable answering his questions. The main points one need to remember before giving Infosys HR is that be confident. Try not to tell any lie and if you do so have information to back it up. Don’t look here and there while giving interview. Try to look in HRs eyes. My interview went like this, HR: Welcome ritz. Please sit down I sat and greeted him. HR: So what are your hobbies? Me: Told him. HR: Have you any extra curriculur activities Me: Told him abt my nack for chess and cricket. HR: You are from a good school, why did you jump to another in higher secondary? Me: Because there was no 12th in my 1st school. HR: So Mr Ritz why should Infosys select you? Me: Told him about my qualities. HR: So give me an example of your qualities. Me: Gave incidence that prove my confidence, positive attitude HR: Tell me about your project and difficulties faced in working on that? Me: Told HR: Ok. That’s enough. Thank you MR Ritz Me: Nice to meet you sir I shaked his hand firmly and got out of the room. At 8 pm the list of selected candidates were announced. 80 students got selected. I was one of them. It was really a mind blowing experience. Thank you Infosys. And test started at around 10:00 Total eligible condidates were around 390 Cleared written: 218 Cleared Infosys: 210 As usual there were 2 rounds for written tests. * Logical Reasoning (30 question 40 minutes) * English (40 question 35 minutes) Logical reasoning: There is no need to read George summer's, Shakuntala devi and oher puzzle books but indeed they give you broad and quicker thinking capabilities, so do solve them if you want 90% or more in 40 minutes. If you don't like solving much puzzles then solve only from R.S Aggarwal it is more than enough for getting 60% or more. For us questions were like. All the best friends and juniors. Hi Friends, I'm Abhimanyu Garg from Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, Ghaziabad. Infosys came to our college on 9th January, 2011 and out of 360 elligible students 202 were finally selected. The Infosys selection procedure comprises of, 1. Written test 2. HR interview The written test comprises of 2 sections. 1. Logical reasoning test (30 questions, 40 mins) 2. Verbal test (40 questions, 30 mins) Our test started at 7.00 pm in the evening and first the logical test paper was given and after 40 mins the logical paper was taken and verbal test paper was distributed. Time management is the key thing while attempting the Infosys test. There is sectional cut-off which is not fixd but I guess it might be around 60% for logical test and 50% for verbal, generally the verbal section is considered to b the tougher one. Logical section consisted of, 1. Odd figure out(5 questions)(straight from R.S Aggarwal) 2. 2 Puzzle test(10 questions)(prac from R.S Aggarwal) 3. Data sufficiency(5 questions)(not from R.S Aggarwal) 4. Data Interpretation(5 questions)(R.S Aggarwal quantitative) 5. Logic/Syllogism(5 questions)(R.S Aggarwal)(easy) Prepare for logical test from R.S Aggarwal verbal/non-verbal book. Verbal section consisted of, 1. Small comprehension 2. Bigger compression 3. Sentence completion 4. Error Detection 5. Sentence improvement 6. Inference/Theme detection Prepare for verbal from R.S Aggarwal objective english book. After that at around 11.30 pm the result for written was declared. The written test is the main elimination round and in our college out of 360, 217 cleared the written. Just what one needs to keep in mind is to remain calm and manage the time as there is no negetive marking so all the questions need to be attempted. The interviews wer conducted on 10th from 10.30 am onwards. It is simply an H.R interview and they just check your communication skills. My interview: My name was called. Me: May i come in sir? HR: Yes please, have a seat. HR: Can you give me your CV. Me: Handed over the CV. HR: So Abhimanyu whats your daily routine? Me: Told. HR: If I give you a project how would you start, what would be your approach? Me: Told. HR: You have written "firm determination" in your stength, can you justify that? Me: I had already prepared for this one, told confidently. HR: You have mentioned several extracurricular activities in your CV. Can you give an instance of when you have coordinated an event and how u handled it? Me: Told confidently. HR: Do you have any questions? Me: Had already thought about it so asked. HR: Ok, you can go now. Me: Thank you sir. And at 6.00 pm in the evening the final results were announced and I was lucky to be one of the 202 selected students. P knows Hindi and Marathi, Q belongs to Tamil Nadu and also knows bengali, R knows Hindi and Urdu, S also knows Hindi and Marathi, T knows Urdu and Bengali. The questions were like this who can act as interpreter between P and T to communicate? Which is the least language known by them? Like this. 6thsubsection: Logical deduction-venn diagram. Two statements will be given followed by two conclusions, we have to say whether only 1 follows or only 2 follows or both follows or neither. For this questions we have to remember 9 conditions and 10 cases given in R.S Aggarwal. Practice this section well. Verbal english 40 questions 35 minutes having 4 subsections with 10 questions each. 1st subsection: Simply 4 statements will be given we have to find the correct one, this needs some idea of tenses and punctuation. 2ndsubsection: Fill in the blanks with phrases and idioms. 3rdsubsection: A statement will be given followed by 4 options having statements, we have to find which of the option is having same meaning as that of given statement. 4thsubsection: Consists of two passages each followed by 5 questions, the length of the passage will be a single page. I practiced over 500 fill ups for this online, lot of grammar exercises are available on net with solutions. Just understand rules of each chapter, then practice question for each chapter. 2) Make sure to give 2 hour reading of english newspaper everyday for infosys, because paragraph infrence can be solved through reading reguarly. 3) Dun forget to do chapter from R.S Aggarwal verbal named by Inference. No need of shakuntala devi, just basics of aptitude and english grammar and newspaper reading. See you in Infosys Mysore. Best of Luck! Hello Friends, I took part in Infosys off-campus drive in Greater Noida, and the selection process consist of Written Test followed by Interview. Written test: The written test consist of General aptitude test in which reasoning question were asked some question were mathematical and some were odd one out (out of 5 figures one was different). Another thing in the written test is the English which is also simple but the two unseen passage are quite time consuming I just done the first one (because it was small) and left the second passage because it was bit lengthy now comes the grammer part, in grammer part there were question in which wrong sentence were give or some part of the sentence was worng and you have to find the correct from the options given, some question were like fill in the blanks and you have to fill the blank with best option. The thing which you people have to manage with is TIME because it goes so fast you can't imagine. After the test i wait for for almost 3 to 4 odd hour and when the result came, i was one of them in the selected student for interview, out of 1000(approx.)students they selected only 166 students. The next was our interview and they just ask from the Resume, no need to get fear, and do not lie in interview. My interviewer was a lady and she was a very cool lady after the interview was over they told us that result will come in around 4 weeks, so we all can go for today, and on 18th November, 2010 I received a mail and my offer letter. At that moment I was very very very very happy. Hope this will help you to prepare. Bye see you in Infosys Mysore Campus. Hello Friends, This is Abhishek Pandey from B.P. Poddar institute of Management & Technology, sharing with you my interview experience. Infosys visited our campus on 15th Janunary, 2011. Infosys selection procedure consists of a written (pen & paper) test & interview (HR). There will be two papers Analytic ability (30 questions) and English (25 questions). No negative marking will be there so attempt all the questions & I think the cut-off was about 50% (they don’t disclose it). For Analytical just prepare from R.S.Aggarwal verbal & non-verbal reasoning book. There were questions on: Data interpretation (easy), Puzzles (moderate), Data Sufficiency (easy), next figure pattern (slightly difficult). For puzzles practice from R.S.Aggarwal, that’s sufficient. In English paper there were questions on: Identifying the correct/incorrect sentences (there were many questions on this), phrasal verbs, comprehension (2 passages were given), finding most appropriate sentences. You need to have a good command over the language to do well here. As always written test was the main hurdle, out of close to 330 students only 83 cleared the written test & out of those, 80 could finally make it after the interview. I was one of them. Once you are through with your written test you are almost home unless you perform very poorly in the interview. They don’t ask any technical question so I was really confident. After entering the room the interviewer shook hands with me (hold the hand firmly as they want to see if you are nervous),I wished him and he told me to sit down. Then he started going through my C.V(prepare you C.V properly ,be ready to face questions on whatever you write in it) Sir: Tell me something about yourself. Me: Told. Sir: Apart from studying how do you spend your free time. Me: Told. Sir: Anything special you have done in your life (In my C.V I had written about my extra-curricular activities), you are good at sports, so tell me If you have to organize a sports event in your locality how will you do it (give a practical answer)? Me: Told. Sir: Have you organized any event in your life? Me: Told. Sir: Did you face any problem while completing your project? How did you handle it? Me: Told. (He seemed to be really satisfied with my answers) Sir: Ok, thank you(shook my hands again) Me: Thank you sir, It was my pleasure meeting you. Just be confident, humble, calm and composed, maintain eye contact. Best of luck to all of you! Hi Everyone! Infosys came to our college on 8th Janunary, 2011. We were told to report at 9 am but they came late. So the ppt session was postponed and we were send to exam rooms where we filled up application forms and then the test started. As you all know the exam has 2 sections. 1. Analytical and logical reasoning part consisting of 30 qusetions 40 minutes there were at first i) 5 figure puzzles ii) 5 DI questions(it was exclusive in our college, it was a network figure with weighted edges) iii) 5 Data sufficiency iv) 5 puzzles(like family type) v) 5 syllogisms(3 premise) vi) 5 puzzles again (for this section practice from "Quantitative Aptitude" by R.S.Aggarwal and even "Verbal & Non Verbal" reasoning by the same author, and go through Freshersworld.com) 2. Verbal reasoning consisting of 40 questions 35 minutes It was a huge paper, two big passages will be there so try to answer them at last moreover there were 8 theme detection type passages and sentence correction questions etc. For this prepare yourself from "Objective General English"by Agarwal, Barron's GRE English and Freshersworld.com. 190 students sat for the aptitude from which 81 cleared and finally 78 people got selected and I was one of them. The HR panel of mine was not at all cool Infosys person. When I entered the room, I wished him good afternoon. HR: Wished me back and told to sit down. HR: Tell me about yourself? I had attended the Infosys offcampus interview conducted at Thakur college itself. Totally 920 students from approximately 29 colleges were present at this recruitment drive. Eligibly Criteria: 60.00% SSC 60.00% HSC 58.00% Engineering (No year gap in between is allowed) Approximate intake: Total Students: 920 Students who cleared Aptitude Test: 215 Students Select in interview: 180 Selection Process: Analytical & Logical reasoning: 30 questions: 40 minutes English section: 40 questions: 35 minutes Sectional cutoff is not informed officially. Study Materials: Practise a lot of papers from freshersworld itself. R.S. Aggarwal. Aptitude Test: The apptitde test was quite difficult but can be easily cracked by doing some practise. Reasoning section had 6 sets. Though I don't remember exactly but there were questions like. 1. A,B,C,D,E & F wear clothes of different colours like red, blue, grey, green, black & yellow not necessarily in the same order. Then some hints regarding their trousers and shirts are given like a. A wears trousers of he same colour like that of Bs shirt b. C does not wear yellow and red clothes. & so on. Then simple 5-6 questions are asked 2. Harry, cary, tim, sam, josh and ron are sitting round a table & then hints like Tim sits opposite sam and harry sits to the left of tim and all is given. Again simple set of 4-5 questions is asked. 3. A,B,C are friends. A always speaks the truth. B always lies and C says truth sometimes only. Then some cases are there. Practising from R.S. Aggrawal will help a lot. In the verbal section there were 2 reading comprehensions which were to some extent difficult. Then there were questions on fill in the blanks with appropriate prepositions.detect the error in the statement was also there which requires knowledge of "punctuation, tenses and prepositions". Then questions on synonyms and correct usage of phrases were also there. In order to crack your apptitude you need to be extremely quick. Please do verify whether there are any negative marks for a wrong answer or not, for us there wasnt any negative markings. The results would be announced in 2-3 hours and if you clear the apptitude test then interview is really nothing you need to worry about. HR Interview: There was only 1 person taking my interview. He asked me to introduce myself.Asked my strong points and then when we came to the topic of college life we actually had a nice casual conversation. Then he gave me a choice whether i would like to describe any events i had organised or my final year project. I choose to talk about my project and told him every detail of it. Then he asked me my part in the project and also to describe the problems i faced during the whole time and how i had overcome them. The results were sent through mail after approximately 2 months along with the offer letter and joining date though usually they announce it on that day itself. Thank God and Freshersworld.com Guys don't worry at all you can definitely crack it just be relaxed and calm and believe in God and do a lot of practise from previous years papers and R.S.Aggrawal. All the best! -------------------------Hello Guys, This post is for those who are interested in joining Infosys. As you all know that you have to go through 2 stages to get recruited in Infosys. 1) Written test (this is the main stage to clear as 80-90% are washed out in this round only), it consists of 2 section. a) Reasoning b) English 2) PI I don't remember the questions but yes I can help all by suggesting some points to clear the process. a) The written test is not so tough as it is told by everyone before giving the test. Whoever tells you that written is very tough he/she is trying to be over smart as they either have cleared it or failed to clear. b) You just have to prepare well logical reasoning, puzzles, completing the series of pictures, and some basic mathematical operations. This you can do from R.S. Aggarwal or any of the CAT coaching materials. c) For the English test prepare correction of sentences, preposition, putting the right words as fill in the blanks, spotting errors, and RC's. Please attempt the RC's at the last if you get time and read the questions 1st and then try to find the answers. Prepare the English from any basic book and those from English medium don't worry for this section. d) There is no negative markings so attempt all questions and be quick n confident. Now if you clear the written test you have to go through the PI section which a HR takes. Now for this section. a) Your CV will be scanned so be ready to answer any questions from any where. b) They are going to play with you so don't lose your temper and have smile always be confident in answering. c) No need to tell them if you have an offer letter from other organizations and if you want to tell, tell them on your own risk. d) They even say I'll through you out. Say sorry and answer the questions. Rest All is well Infosys paper 2010. This is Ujjwal from JIS College of Engineering, Kalyani. My stream is Computer Science & Engineering. The aptitude paper was easy comapred to other companies and guys do keep in mind there is no negative marking, so first answer those questions of which you are sure of and then just tick the others as well. For the aptitude test, practising Quantitative Aptitude & Verbal & Non-Verbal reasoning both by R.S. Aggarwal will be enough. The paper was divided into two parts, first quantitative & then Verbal and non-verbal. There were questions on puzzles, syllogism, antonyms and synonyms, comprehension. Luckily i cleared the aptitude and was called for interview the very next day. Below is my Interview experience: Date: 12th September 2010. The HR was around 50 years old. Me: Good afternoon Sir HR: Good afternoon, have a seat. Me: Thank you Sir. HR: So, Samrat tell me about yourself. Me: I just gave a normal introduction of my family background, education background. HR: What is the meaning of your name? Me: Answered. HR: Can you name any emperor? Me: Sure Sir, Samrat Ashoka. HR: He was of which dynasty? Me: Answered. HR: OK Samrat, how is the day for yoy? Me: Answered fluently that today is a very special day for me as i am siting here, giving interview for such a reputed company and etc etc. HR: How was yesterday then? Me: Yesterday was also very special as i cleared the aptitude test etc etc. HR: Nothing about the food that you had, the weather Me: Sir, yesterday and today are special for me only because of Infosys otherwise it would have just been a normal day for me. HR: Ok. Tell me about your project. Me: Gave an overview of the project. HR: Why this project? Me: Gave sum justified reasons. HR: Suppose you have 12 days to prepare for CAT, how will you do it? Me: Sir, if i have just 12 days then first of all i would try to get the knowledge of the CAT question paper and then suppose if there are two topics, Quantitative & verbal and non-verbal then i will devote 5 days each to them and i will keep the last two days for practising previous year papers so that i get acquainted with them. HR: Ok Samrat you can leave now. Me: Thank you Sir. It was a pleasure to interact with you. HR: Same here. Then the officials announced that the result will be communicated via email very shortly. But they took exactly two months. On 12th November, i got the offer letter from Infosys. Guys just be confident during the interview and give your full effort for aptitude paper because there is no technical round in Infosys. Wishing you all the best in your respective lives. Hey Friends, I'm SS & I had attended the Infosys off-campus drive at OIST, Bhopal on 17th September, 2010. It was very hectic day actually and about 2500 students attended the process. Students from all the tecnhical college of M.P were called. The whole process had 2 round. First one is written which include aptitude, reasoning n English paper. Aptitude and reasoning paper was easy having 35 questions to be attended on 40 minutes and English section was tough having 30 questions in 30 mins. For aptitude and reasoning, try to solve from R.S Aggrawal Quantitative aptitude and Verbal and nonverbal reasoning. In verbal and non-verbal, try to study following topics- Puzzle test, Number Ranking & Time sequence and Picture Sequence questions. For quantitative aptitude, try to memoroze all the important formulae from the book and must see the examples to use those formulae specially of time & distance, time and work, pipe and cistern. For english try to study the basics of english grammar from written and martin or ant good grammar book. Also try to practise for the english part as much as possible because usually time consumption is more in english section. It has 2 passage for reading comprehension. Now, its time for interview. The result was declared on late evening at around 8 pm and about 330 candidates were selected for interview. My interview was scheduled on 18 September. My interview was as following. 1. Describe yourself. 2. Describe your role in your major project. 3. Suppose there are no furnitures in the room and no measuring instrument with you in the room. You enter the room and a bulb hanging by the rope touches your head which is hanging by a hindge of very negligible size. Can you tell me the height of the roof? It was told to us that the results will be declared in for weeks. Hi Friends, I want to thank all the people here contributing the papers and their experience and placement week as well. Int: He said if you get through the process you will get to know it. Me: Thank you sir and shaked hand again and after nearly 2.5 months i got offer of employment from Infosys technologies limited with joining in 1st quarter of 2011 at Mysore with the annual compensation of 3.25 lakh per annum Thanks to Infosys technologies and placement week and all my friends for everything. Hi Friends, This is Surya prakash choudhary from B.I.E.T Suri(west bengal). I took party in off-campus conducted by Infosys technologies. There was no negative marking. There were two papers. Paper 1(40 questions, 40 minutes). paper 2(35 questions ,30 minute). In paper 1 there were logical, quantitative, Verbal and Non Verbal reasoning questions. 5 problems from figure type odd one out reasoning(they wer easy). 5 problems from Data Interpretation(they we also easy). There were 5 logical probs based on some facts, they were somewhat difficult, I coluldn’t do those probs But guessed one single option. There were 5 problems Based on some facts, I also couldn’t do that due to lack of time and guessed. There were some more logical problems, you can practice them from R.S. Aggarwal. One suggestion you don’t need 2 worry about shakuntala devi puzzle or summers puzzles because I couldn’t find problemss from there. You just practise different types from R.S Aggarwal and most important thing you should know various types only, by cool mind you can solve any problem. Paper 2 was English knowledge test, there were 2 comprehension one very easy and one difficult(total 10 questions). There were sentence completion question(mainly from preposition, article, verb etc). There were also sentence correction questions. So, friends you need to manage year time well and year Level of English. About 1500 hundred students appeared for the test from various colleges of West Bengaland out of them 393 cleared aptitude round. As usual they didn’t ask any technical question in interview. I went here with cool mind and they told that they will send final results via email. Still waiting for confirmation but I'm sure that I will must be selected, hope this experience may help you guys in clearing aptitude round because aptitude round is the main elimination round in infosys. See you guys in infosys soon. HR: So Surya, tell me something about your project. ME: I explained well. HR: What was the most interesting in your project? ME: I explained. HR: Tell me something about your family background Me: Told HR: Asked many questions from resume. I had mentioned quiz so he asked 4-5 G.K questioned and luckily I answered and at last he told me nice 2 meet you and you can leave now. Hope you are all doing great in life Friends, I would like to share my experience with all who happen to browse through this beautiful and should. I add a very informative website for freshers like me I hope my experience in the aptitude and HR round might help you all in some way. Students from many engineering colleges in West Bengal attended this campussing. The venue was Heritage institute of technology and the whole process took place through 2 days (11th and 12th September). As most of you know, Infosys has two different sections in their aptitude test 1) One was the Reasoning aptitude test(30 questions which included data interpretation, logical reasoning, pictorial puzzles, basic derivative mathematical problems) 2) Another part was the Verbal aptitude test(40 questions which included 2 long passages, sentence correction, fill in the blanks with appropriate words, replace a part of a sentence with the correct verbal phrase) No negative marking in either of the sections, but I am not sure whether there are sectional cut-offs. So be sure to attempt all the questions in both sections, don’t dawdle with one question if you don’t know it. Be sure to pass one to the next one, remember in such little time utilizing every minute is very very important. Even 1 correct or 1 wrong answer could make the difference. It is a very thin line that might help you to nail the job or get yourself nailed. Total students appeared Approx 2000 Shortlisted for HR 390 This Aptitude rounds are the ones where a staggering 1600 students got eliminated, which in this case amounts to 80% of the strength My interview was a 1:1 panel. Trust me when I tell you that Infosys HRs are very frank and cool. I entered the room after asking for permission (always ask for permission before you step in) Me: may I come in sir HR: yes, please come in The HR was sitting in his chair, so I reached out spontaneously for a handshake and greeted him a very good morning. He looked up to me and extended his hand very pleasingly and smiled and replied good morning. Many say that you shouldn’t extend your hand first for the handshake if the HR doesn’t. But many think that’s rubbish and i too share the same opinion. Shaking the hand is a way of showing courtesy and greeting the person. It also shows that you are not nervous and you are confident, so it helps in creating a good positive impression about you in the HR’s mind even before the interview has begun. A good firm (not bone- crushing) handshake acts like a pleasant stimulator. HR: please take the seat Me: (while taking my chair) thank you so much I kept my hands on the table and sat leaning forward, when the HR said please sit back in your chair and relax Sourya. So I did that And then he asked me How was yesterday Sourya? Me: Sir, it was fine HR: describe yesterday Answered HR: how do you approach a problem? Answered HR: what projects have you done? Answered HR: how do you prepare for your exams? Answered HR: suppose you had 15 days left for your final semester exams, how would you prepare yourself? Answered HR: tell me about your project? Answered HR: tell me about your family background? Answered HR: So, you are the only son of your parents ME: yes, sir, I am the only son HR: How many were there in your project group? Answered HR: Thank you ME: thank you very much Sir And left the room, the questions he asked were very innocent questions, atleast they may look like innocent, but the HR comes to know a lot about you from these very basic questions, be very honest and confident. It’s obvious to be a bit nervous and make some mistakes as a fresher. But just focus that you don’t create a negative impression to the HR. Believe in yourself and trust your God. Hi Friends, I attended Infosys selection process on 23rd March 2011. Here I want to share my views. Total Candidates Appeared: 1300 +. Qualified for HR: 135 Final Selection: 105. Friends, just go through the CAT Material if available, Better to proceed with RS Agarawal Reasoning & General English. Paper is little easy if you manage the time constraint. Test Location : Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Delhi Test Date : 29th August, 2010 Submitted by : Raman Kumar Tarika Infosys paper 2010. This is Raman Kumar from Noida. I am 2009 MCA passed out from ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad. Friends it was the off-campus drive. The Written test was on 29th August. Aptitude paper of Infosys are little bit tough in compare to others. This was my second attempt for Infosys, First was when i was in College (On Campus) in 2008. I have already listened many times that If you can Clear the Written Exam of Infosys it means you have made it upto 70%. In the Interview, you just need to be active. So I prepared for the same. Before written exam, a PrePlacement talk was scheduled but later on cancelled due to heavy rush and less space. Important points to clear the written exam: 1. R.S. Aggarwal is good enough for preparation of written exam. 2. A week's prepration can make you through. But you have to practice it seriously. 3. Time management is the biggest factor. 4. Follow the rules defined by Infosys. They are the company of etiquettes. 5. Philosophical (from me): Make your Desire really strong and also provide the actions that can match your desire. When you are appearing for the test then forget all the world just go into it. Written Exam: There were two sections 1. Aptitude and Logical reasoning (30 questions, 30 minutes) 2. English ( 35 questions, 40 minutes) Aptitude and Logical reasoning: I don't remember the exact questions. But I remember the topics 1. Problems on Ages 2. Time and Work (Questions like- A can do this in 8 hrs and b can in 10 hrs, then A+B?) 3. Percentage 4. Puzzles 5. Logical Problems 6. Numbers 7. Missing figure 8. Data sufficiency English: 1. Paragraph 2. Inferences (Select the sentence that doesn't match) 3. Sequesnces of Sentences according to priority 4. Correct the sentence 5. Other Grammer Practice all the above topics. All type of questions at least once. When I was doing the Written Exam, I felt - Thank God I have spent last two days in the prepration because my preparation for the exam was really helping me. After submitting the test, I was confident and feeling that I'll clear but I was continuously asking God for his grace and help. We had to wait for a long time for the results. Near about 5 p.m. in the evening they announced. All the sheets were passing out and I was hungry to listen my name. Then the person who was announcing the result spoke "This is the Last Sheet and only 10 candidates on it." On the 5th number he announced "Raman Kumar". I had cleared the written exam. They told us Interview dates and Venue will be informed us by mail. 170 students were selected from the interview. Interview: I got the mail for Interview. My Interview held on 16th September at Nehru Place, New Delhi. Note: Infosys interviewers are really experienced persons. There were lots of Old age persons in the panel. They really notice your etiquettes. Be Polite. They are Nice people. Main thing is that they are questioning to hire you not to reject you. Give then Good response and you'll be picked up. Show them your learning ability. Show them your way of problem solving. Read Puzzles before going into the Interview. My Interview: I was sitting in the waiting room. An old persons called my name and told me to wait outside the room. After some wait, they called me inside. They were Two persons. Both were aged ones. really experienced. Me: May I come In, Sir? HR: Yes, please. I entered and shut the door very softly that it didn't make any noise and stood by the chair. HR: Have a seat. Me: Thank you, sir. and sat down ( By following the way in which we should sit in front of them (straight)& with positive body language) They read my resume for some time and I was expecting that there first question will be "Some thing about yourself" and I was preparing for this one. But they shocked me by asking an UnExpected question as technical first one. HR: For How long you lived in Punjab? Me: Pardon sir? HR: For How long you lived in Punjab?(They repeated) Me: Told HR: What your father's occupation Me: Told (Shopkeeper and Milkman) HR: Ok. (silence for a moment) so Raman in which company you are working Me: Told HR: Something about the Company? Me: Told enough described the company's domain and strength and clients. HR: About the project in which you are working? Me: I described the project in detail. I spoke for nr about 2 mins. They were noticing my way of presentation. When i stopped, I noticed i have described it nicely. Main thing was the selection of words and terms that you use. They want to check your presentation. (Then they asked so many question from that description) HR: Have you faced or stuck to any problem while working on this project? Me: Yes sir HR: Which type of problem and how did you solve it? Me: (They want to know your way of handling the problems - Be ready for this) - Told - ( I gave them an Example of Regular Expression)- Guys , Please use the Examples while answering - Real Life Examples. Now, again they started to read my Resume and started picking questions from there. Guys, Telling you honestly. You must read your resume and prepare for everything that you have written in technical Resume. OR You must write the things in the resume that you know and you can describe very well. HR: Raman, You have written here you have participated in functions? can you tell us what type of functions? What happened there? Me: Told (Given the example of Quiz Competition and Speech Competition that i really participated in during my School and College time) HR: Have you organized any Function as a leader? Me: Yes sir. HR: Tell us something about that Event and Your Team? How did you moralized your team? Me: Told. I explained them by speaking the same wording that a captain should speak to his team before a Match. HR: Have you faced any problem while the function was going on and you were hosting the stage and how did you handled it at a time? Me: Explained the problem with a real Example and Told them how i managed the situation without letting anyone know. HR: Define us more? ( They just wanted to check my Communication and Presentation) Me: Explained. HR: One more question from my Resume from my Interests that were written in Resume Then HR: (Again the Question from my Hobbies and Interests) Why Adventure is your Hobby? Me: Explained well and ended with a 'Quote' that I read in my English literature book in my Graduation time. (Telling you Guys, that was a Punch, a Shot) That quote also ended the Interview. HR: Ok, Raman thats it from our side and (Silence) Me: Should I leave , Sir? HR: Yes. Me: I stood up and thanked both of them Individually. They smiled. One of them was noticing me when I was going out of the room and closing the door. ( We were told that results would be sent to your mail) After a long wait. After two Months and 7 days I got the call from Infosys that I got selected and then in the evening they sent the Offer Letter. (Yipppeee!) I thanked God for his grace and also a Big thanks to Freshersworld.com as old papers helped me a lot. I am going to Join Infosys on 24th January. Best of Luck, friends. Feeling happy to share the experience with all of you! See you there in Infosys!
