The Droid 2 has a little bit of the Droid X in its storage capacity, which can grow to a massive 40-gigabytes, and its ability to act as a 3G mobile hotspot for up to five other devices. It has a bit of the first Droid in it, too, in that it still has a 5.0megapixel camera, something a few newer Droids have moved past. Carrier: Verizon Opinion of Verizon: Great network, but I am upset that all Verizon phones require a data plan as of Jan.2010 Plan Options: If cost were no option, would I get this phone: I would buy this phone if funds were unlimited If I have to pay all costs, would I get this phone: If I had to pay for the whole venture, no I would not buy this phone CSC 14_1 Page 1 Samsung Epic 4G Features: The latest in the Samsung Galaxy S family of phones, Sprint's Epic 4G runs on the Google Android 2.1 platform and features a 4.0-inch "Super AMOLED" touch screen display. The lightweight handset is powered by a 1-gigahertz processor and supports blazing-fast WiMax 4G connectivity for data downloads. It also doubles as a hotspot for up to five Wi-Fi devices to share the 4G simultaneously. With its slide-out QWERTY keyboard and social media apps, the phone makes staying connected with friends on Facebook and Twitter a snap. Other features include Bluetooth capability, Swype text entry and a 5.0-megapixel camera with high-definition video recording. For navigation, the Epic comes downloaded with Google's Navigation app but can also subscribe to Sprint's Navigation service. Carrier: Sprint Opinion of Sprint: Sprint is a decent carrier, their network is not as robust as Verizon but costs less. Plan Options: If cost were no option, would I get this phone: Perhaps not, it seems inferior to the Droid. And runs an earlier version of the same OS If I have to pay all costs, would I get this phone: No iPhone 3GS FEATURES: Offers a faster processor than the iPhone 3G, longer battery life, an internal compass, voice control features and an improved 3.0-mega-pixel auto-focus camera with video recording capabilities. The phone also uses OpenGL technologies for high quality 3-D graphics for faster and improved mobile gaming. Users can watch videos, listen to music, browse the internet and use their favorite apps longer. The phone supports 7.2 Mbps HSDPA for faster networking speeds. It runs on Apple’s new iPhone OS 3.0 software allowing the user to cut, copy, and paste text. It also has a new built in digital compass for instant navigation. The compass app shows travelers which way they are headed and rotates as they change directions and is integrated within Maps, therefore allowing it to automatically orient any map to the direction they are facing. CARRIER: CSC 14_1 Page 2 AT&T OPINION OF AT&T: I think AT&T is a great company with reasonable plans. PLAN OPTIONS: AT&T has a variety of plans to try and help make phones affordable for people. They have individual plans, family plans, pre-paid plans, and data-plans. IF COST WAS NO OBJECT WHAT WOULD I GET? I would get the iPhone 4G. IF I HAVE TO PAY ALL THE COSTS WHAT WOULD I GET? I would and do have the i-Phone 3GS. Conclusion In conclusion, with the advance in cell phones comes many powerful tools to the user. Instant access to email and the internet anywhere enables the user to be far more productive than before. But this technology comes at a price, both financial and otherwise. These phones are just downright expensive, from the hardware to the apps to the plans. And from my observations, people with these phones are always glued to them. To them it seems the piece of plastic in their hand is more important than anything else. Bibliography CSC 14_1 Page 3
