The University of Arizona’s School of Natural Resources at Biosphere 2 heads the Biosphere 2 Evapotranspiration Project
which carries out experiments to understand how changes in vegetation cover influence the transfer of water from the
Earth's surface to the atmosphere; evaluate the influence of tree cover over the microclimate (temperature and light
regime) and evaluate the potential consequences of climate change on the transfer of water to the atmosphere via
evaporation and transpiration.
One of Biosphere 2's goals is to support STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) by
bringing the current, cutting-edge science research being done there, into the classroom. Delivering content over a realtime video link allows the scientists to interact with students who may never visit the U.S. Ultimately, Biosphere 2 hopes
to inspire young people around the world to be excited about science since they'll be the ones solving many of the
problems we face today.
