Valdosta Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 2014 Scholarship Award The Valdosta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. awards this scholarship as a means to provide financial assistance to secondary students who wish to pursue higher education goals. Applicants must submit a completed application, a recommendation, an official transcript, and an essay. The eligible applicants will be evaluated based on their scholastic discipline, personal achievement, goals, and objectives. Scholarship winners will be selected from the eligible applications postmarked by April 9, 2014 or hand-delivered to a member of the Valdosta Alumnae Chapter by the same date. The recipient will receive $500 in award money to be used towards higher education assistance during the first semester of the ensuing academic year. Please be advised, if awarded this scholarship you will have one year to claim your award. Eligibility Criteria The applicant must: Be a graduating high school senior in one of the following service areas: Lowndes, Valdosta, Brooks, Cook, Madison (FL). Have a cumulative GPA of B or better. Have an SAT score of 900 or higher OR ACT composite score of 19 or higher Be accepted at an accredited institution of higher education (Technical College, Junior College, or University). Submit an official transcript inclusive of cumulative GPA, class rank, GHSGT scores. If GHSGT, ACT, SAT, COMPASS, or ASSET scores are not included on the transcript, please submit a copy of most recent scores. Submit a typed essay (See application for topics and guidelines). Submit a letter of recommendation with scholarship application. Recommendations must be submitted by an educator, community organization associate, and a personal or professional affiliate. A complete application includes: Completed application form Official high school transcript w/SAT, ACT, COMPASS, or ASSET scores Essay of 300-500 words A letter of recommendation It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure a completed application is submitted with all supporting documents by the postmark deadline of April 9, 2014 or hand-delivered to a member of the Valdosta Alumnae Chapter by the same date. All application materials received by the deadline date will be initially screened and evaluated by the committee. Candidates selected for a Scholarship award will receive notification of their award. Scholarship awards will be disbursed upon confirmation of postsecondary registration and only during the candidate’s first semester of the ensuing academic year.
