Principal’s Message:
This year is moving very quickly. Friday, October 16th, marks the
final day of our first academic quarter.
We look forward to meeting with you at parent-teacher
conferences to discuss your child’s performance. Conferences are
scheduled for Monday, November 2nd , in the evening, Thursday,
November 5th, in the evening, and Friday, November 6th, during
the day. If you did not have the opportunity to schedule your
conference time via SignUpGenius, please do so. If there is
difficulty with using SignUpGenius, please contact your child’s
teacher. Also, if the available days/times do not work, please
contact your child’s teacher. We are very excited about using
SignUpGenius this year. We also look forward to meeting with you
and discussing your child’s progress.
We will not have school on Tuesday, November 3rd. Instead, this
day is devoted to providing our school staff professional
development. We will also not have school on Friday, November
6th. As stated earlier, this day is devoted to parent- teacher
conferences.
If you have specific questions, concerns or simply want to share
your insights, please do not hesitate to contact our school. Our
goal is to improve daily which can only happen with your support,
confidence and wisdom.
Got Grit?!
Modeling grit is extremely important as we look for opportunities
to increase resiliency and perseverance in our children. The
willingness to share your own examples of failure and the amount
of effort you have had to put forth to accomplish goals can be
very powerful. Don’t underestimate your value as a role model and
influence. Thomas Hoerr (2013) reminds us that, “What we’ve
learned along the path to success might be the best thing we can
teach.” Students often have the misconception that others are
just smarter and luckier-not realizing that an enormous amount of
practice and failure have contributed to the end result of
successfulness.
Below is a graphic that clearly depicts “The Iceberg Illusion,” or
the thought process of many students, and adults, that only see
an individual’s success. We do not always consider the
persistence, failure, sacrifices, disappointments, positive work
habits, hard work, and dedication that led to the ultimate
SUCCESS!! Help your students to consider these other factors
that cannot always be seen, by sharing your own examples. In the
classroom we are also sharing examples and working at not
minimizing our own attempts so the students can see that adults
also practice grit every day.

October Grit Challenge for Home:
Ask your child to complete the most difficult part of his/her
homework (or chore list) first for the month of October. Ask
your child to share a mistake that he/she made during the day
and what was done to correct it. If your child gave up, discuss
what can be done next time a similar mistake is made.
Great Start to the 2015-2016 School Year!
Wow! What a fun and productive first quarter of school for the
students at Frank Elementary! It is so fun to see all of the
students excited about learning! The pictures below highlight
some of the exciting learning adventures for our students!

Halloween Parade & Parties Planned
On Friday, October 30th, Frank Elementary School will be hosting
a parade for our students. The parade will begin at 2:30pm. If
you are interested in seeing our parade, please note the following:
• The parade will begin at 2:30pm. We ask that all individuals
arrive prior to this time as we want to make sure our
hallways are clear. We ask that you begin to arrive no
earlier than 2:10pm. • When arriving to the school, we will escort you to either our
cafeteria or gymnasium. Our students will circle both our
cafeteria and gymnasium making them ideal locations to
locate loved ones in the parade. • We ask that you not go to classrooms prior to the parade unless
specifically asked to do so by your child’s classroom teacher
prior to the day of the parade. We want to minimize both
hallway traffic and classroom congestion. • After the parade has finished, we ask that you not go to your
child’s classroom unless you are signed up as party helper.
Again, our rooms will be very crowded due to our classroom
parties. As always, thank you for your consideration and
holiday spirit. We look forward to an exciting Halloween
afternoon for our students.
Proper Halloween Attire
As a reminder with Halloween a little under a month away,
students will begin to talk about their costumes and what they
will be choosing to wear. Please keep the following rules in mind
when choosing a costume for your child:
1.) No weapons. For example, guns, knives, light sabers, or
sharp objects of any kind (including plastic). 2.) No make-up that represents blood or gory, gruesome or
frightening characters. 3.) Remember that our students will be participating in a
Halloween Parade. It is important that nothing drags or has
too many strings that may be caught and become dangerous
to them or someone beside them. 4.) Masks are permitted as long as they don’t restrict the
child’s vision. If you have questions regarding your child’s costume, please do
not hesitate to contact the school.
Bucket Fillers…
Congratulations to the following students who have been
nominated by staff members for being bucket fillers recently!
Please help us congratulate the following students: Colin Jones,
Jim Beasley, Gabbi Kelley, Sophia Lanno, Logan Ansley-Huff,
Michael Moser-Krantz, Brayden Martens, Faith Krueger, Collin
Jones, Mason Boyle, Mohammad Ajabnoor, Gurbani Kaur
Zach Stokes, Kylynn Thomas, Autumn Marshall, Callum Smith,
James Garcia, Devika Pillai, Taylor Schwelger, Trinity Jackson,
Jacob Coy, Skyi Saxton, and Isaac Bermudez.
Safety Drill
We will be having an evacuation drill on Monday, October 19, at
9:30 AM. This is a state required drill.
We are being very calm at school and helping our students be
calm as well by saying, "We're Not Scared, We're Prepared!"
We are working very hard to reassure our students that this is
only a drill. In order not to panic our little ones we will probably
indicate imminent danger by saying something like "Danger in the
third grade hallway."
Please help reinforce the "We're Not Scared, We're Prepared!"
message at home.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or
Dr. W.
Book Reviews
On the morning announcements, there are book reviews of popular
children’s books. So far, we have done book reviews on popular
books such as Harriet the Spy, The Wind in the Willows, and The
True Story of the Three Little Pigs.
If your child reads a great book and would like to write a book
review, we would be happy to have your child read the book
review on the AM announcements.
Red Ribbon Week
It is time for the annual Red Ribbon Campaign – the oldest and
largest drug prevention campaign in America! Red Ribbon Week
provides an opportunity for our schools and community to unite
and support drug-free lifestyles and healthy choices. We will
celebrate this campaign during the week of October 19thOctober 23rd.
-Monday: Students will wear Red Ribbon Week Ribbons
(Teachers will read read the story of where Red Ribbon Week
came from with their class/area.)
-Tuesday: PJs Day ("Wake Up Drug Free" It's pajama day! Kids
can wear their PJs to school...Please still follow normal dress code
rules).
Wednesday: Wear Red Day ("Drugs are Scary: I'm Red-y' to Say
No To Drugs!" It's Red Day! Kids are asked to wear red today.)
Thursday: Crazy Socks Day ("It's Crazy To Do Drugs!" Students
can wear crazy socks...have fun and be creative!)
Friday: Frank Spirit Day ("Our School is Drug Free" Students
are invited to wear Frank Spirit Wear this day or Perrysburg
Spirit Wear)
Flip Over Some Flash Cards at Homework Time
Flash cards are a great way to memorize a large number of facts.
Whether your child is learning definitions, dates, names,
vocabulary words or math facts, flash cards can help. Ask your
child's teacher about making or purchasing flash cards.
Share these tips with your child on using flash cards to make the
best use of homework time:
• Start by dividing the cards into small groups. Work with one
group of cards at a time, and master those facts before going on
to another group.
• Shuffle the cards each time they’re used. You want your child
to learn the facts in any order.
• Practice often—but for short periods of time. Six ten-minute
sessions are better than one hour-long session.
• Spend more time on cards that still have to be mastered.
Expect Your Child’s
Best Work
Parents can help their children succeed in school by letting them
know what they expect. Expectations make a difference.
If you let your child know that school is his/her job and that you
expect him/her to do his/her best there, he/she is more likely to
do well. If you don't expect him/her to work hard, or you make
him/her think he/she is a poor student, he/she will probably be a
poor student.
Praise your child’s good efforts and improvement, and tell
him/her you believe in him/her. It will go a long way in promoting
school achievement.
While it is important to expect your child's best efforts, it is
also important not to expect perfection. Even the best student
will make mistakes, and your child needs to know that is OK, too.
Thank You!:)
Wow! The Walk-A-Thon was a huge success!! First, thank you so
much for the generous support for the walk-a-thon. It is
wonderful to receive so much support from the families of Frank
Elementary! One of the reasons Frank is such a great school is
because of the strong parent support!:) We raised approximately
$6,000. Thanks so much!:) Again, thank you for all of the support
of the walk-a-thon. This would not be possible without the
generous support and encouragement of our parents. We are so
appreciative!
Also, a huge thank you to the following sponsors: Schmitz Family,
Key Realty, Parties Aplenty, Apex Metal Fabricating & Machine
Company, Candlelight Occasions, Mr. Freeze, KMI Consulting,
Chris Pike Handyman, Edge Dance Complex, Toledo Plywood
Company, Guardian Alarm, and Toledo Sign Company.
We would also like to extend special recognition to COSTCO for
donating water for the walk-a-thon. It is very appreciated!
From the Nurse's office...
Cold and Flu season is quickly approaching. While we hope that
ALL of our students stay healthy, it is important to know that
some of our students are more at risk when contracting
contagious viruses and diseases. For instance, the child with
diabetes, a compromised immune system or asthma will miss
MANY more days of school for a “simple” cold than those without
these diseases.
When is it ok to return to school after having an illness?
• After having a fever, students must be fever free for 24 hours
without the use of fever reducing medicine such as Tylenol,
Motrin or Aspirin. • After vomiting or having diarrhea, students must be symptom
free for 24 hours and have resumed a normal diet. • After chickenpox, students may return when spots are dry and
crusty and no new spots are occurring. • After a bacterial infection (i.e., Strep throat, Pinkeye, bacterial
skin infection) students may return after receiving
antibiotics for 24 hours and fever free per the above
guidelines or when your doctor certifies that your child is
able to return. Failure to follow these guidelines will mean
that your child will be sent home until recovery is complete.
Upon return to school, students also need to have a note
stating the dates and reason for the absence. According to the Parent/Student Handbook 2015-2016, page 4:
1. EXCUSED ABSENCES a. Personal Illness (The parent/guardian determines if the
student is unable to attend school due to illness):
i. Requires notification from parent/guardian
ii. Phone call to school on day of absence before 9:30 am
iii. Written note from parent/guardian when student returns to
school
iv. A doctor’s excuse may be required in some instances at the
discretion of building administration Now is the time to have a
“sick plan” in place in the event of having an ill child. Have a backup person available in advance in case you get a call from school
that your child is ill and needs to go home. Here at school we are
constantly reinforcing these very important principles to help
prevent the spread of germs. These same principles should be
reinforced at home as well. • Frequent and effective hand washing (at least 20 seconds with
soap and water). Use hand sanitizer when soap and water
are not available. • Cough and sneeze in your elbow or sleeve. Do not cough and
sneeze in your hands. If you do, wash hands or use sanitizer
immediately. • DO NOT touch the T-Zone or even better yet, your face. The
mucous membranes in the Eyes, Nose and Mouth are where
germs enter the body. We want to do all that we can to
have a safe and healthy environment here at school. With
everyone following these helpful tips we hope that we can
accomplish that goal. Morning Drop-Off
During morning-drop off, please stay in your car if you are in the
drop-off lane. Please also pull all the way to the front of the line.
If you do get out of your car, please park and cross at the cross
walk. Thank you for your cooperation.
We are also currently looking for a parent or two who would like
to volunteer outside during morning drop-off to ensure a smooth
process. This will in turn have a positive impact on classrooms as
children can enter school relaxed and calm after going through a
smooth drop-off lane versus stressed after going through a
chaotic drop-off lane.
If you are interested in volunteering, please let Dr. W know by
calling 874-8721 or emailing him at
cwarnimont@perrysburgschools.net.
Early Dismissal
When you are picking up your student from school for an early
dismissal, your child will not be released from class until you have
arrived in the office. Thank you for your cooperation and
understanding as we strive to maximize learning time for our
students.
FPC News
Happy Fall Y’all! Last month for the first time, FPC held the
Scholastic Book Fair at Frank. In years past this has been a
PEPA (Perrysburg Elementary Parents Association) event meaning
much of the work was done by PEPA. This year we handled the
entire event, and in turn kept all the profits earned. Thanks to
Tammy McCully for being such an awesome chair. We were able
to get all of the books the library needed as well as give the
teachers some extra books to outfit their classroom libraries.
We had many contests for the kids to enjoy.
The ice cream social was held on one night instead of two. As in
year’s past, we ran out of ice cream within the first hour. Thanks
to Chairperson, Jenn Yager, for carrying on the tradition of such
a sweet event!
There is still an opening for someone (or a couple of good friends)
to chair the Family Fun Fest. I’m sad to say if we don’t find
someone soon we will have to cancel this year. If you are
interested please contact me with any questions you might have.
Our October meeting was held this past Tuesday evening. We
voted on and approved several items such as the 2015 – 2016
budget; a proposal to purchase stability balls for the teachers
wanting them, and large area rugs for those that already have
stability balls. We will reimburse the school for the
teacher/staff walk-a-thon t-shirts.
Spirit wear examples will be on display in the main entrance
during conferences. Order forms will go home that week and will
be due on December 1st. As in the past, we will offer 2 styles and
the color choices will be kiwi green, Perrysburg gold, and athletic
gray. T-shirts will be $4 with hoodies for $11. This year you will
also have the option of personalization for an extra $3.
Our next meeting will be held on November 13th at 6:30pm in the
Frank library – hope to see you there!!
