The dynamics of convergence are real in North Carolina. Never before has there been transformation of this
magnitude. We are applying innovative strategies to modernize the human service delivery system by
leveraging organizational, process and technology changes. We are building an infrastructure to support
improved outcomes and create a higher level of accountability. Let’s reflect back on where we have been
and what lies ahead.

CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN WRITING
This workshop will provide an overview of State and Federal Corrective Action Plans for Food and Nutrition
Services, WFFA, Medicaid and Child Care. Attendees will gather information to assist with the development
of corrective action plans requested by the State.

Attendees will gather information related to business flow, serving customers, and other options for moving

REPORTING FOR DUTY WITH CSDW AND NC FAST
Members of the Reports Workgroup will walk you through a demonstration of what reports currently exist in
CSDW and NC FAST, how to use them, and priorities for the next round of reports. The team will also lead
a structured discussion to gather feedback from counties.

COME IN IF YOU DARE! DMA AND DAAS UPDATES
In this workshop:
 Both programs will discuss the impact of any pending or new legislation.
 Counties will share ideas on how to get the backlog of recertifications completed
 Staff will give a brief overview and update of the Integrated Eligibility Policy Manual and touch on
how to think about countable and non-countable income;
 There will be updates on policy issues for Medicaid including non-emergency medical transportation;
 Special Assistance payments are electronic---now what??!!! A discussion of good practice and
lessons learned in the first three months of electronic payments.

SUPERVISOR TRAINING
This is a continuation of the supervisor training sessions from SSI and regional meetings. Participants
should plan on attending both sessions back to back.

Lean and Work Visualization for Managers: “Lean” refers to a set of principles and techniques for
approaching your work that focuses on respect for people to generate continuous improvement in the
services and value you provide to customers. In this 90-minute workshop, you will learn key concepts of
Lean and some key Lean management techniques and tools to improve communications, surface issues
and engage your teams to provide more effective and efficient services to customers. You will also
receive an introduction to work visualization as a tool for managing projects and tasks. Finally, there will
be an opportunity to put your new Lean knowledge to work and learn from participants that already have
experience using Lean techniques!

DHHS POLICY GOVERNANCE BOARD AND COUNTY/STATE COMMUNICATIONS
This session will provide an overview of the role of Economic Benefits Policy Governance Board. It will
also include the flow of the development of new and revised policy. This session will also address state

WORKFLOW AND PROCESSES FOR MANAGEMENT
Managers and agency leaders attending this session will get a more structured view of NCFAST and the
required time/skills and knowledge your front line workers must have to get the work done. Attendees
can expect to gain a better understanding of workforce needs, work flow and business processes that
are working; learn basic NCFAST procedures and how that relates to worker time. Attendees will want
to bring a copy of their organizational chart.

This workshop will provide an overview of the recently changes to the Supervisor Workspace regarding
the work queues and tasks found in NC FAST. The new changes will help supervisors effectively manage
tasks and work queues during daily business operations.

Sharing advanced troubleshooting techniques used by our NC FAST Helpdesk Staff daily. This
information will assist in reducing the hours spent by county staff investigating issues that could possibly

FAST. Overall, the goal is to provide you with the tools and resources that will help you help us!!

DELEGATING FOR SUCCESS
As managers one of the most useful skills to master is the ability to successfully delegate to others.
Delegation doesn’t mean abdicating responsibility but instead requires you to have trust and confidence
in the abilities of your team and a commitment to developing the skills of individual team members. In
this workshop you will learn more about the benefits of delegation, what’s needed for effective delegation
and how to address obstacles to effective delegation. Specifically, the workshop will cover such topics
as determining what and to whom to delegate and creating feedback and accountability methods for your
team.
