Topic of Lesson: Getting Ready for school Link to Level A1.1 Curriculum write short connected statements using familiar language about a variety common everyday situations, supported by models Lesson SWBAT: Objectives - identify bathroom objects in French - become familiar and comfortable orally using the new vocabulary - placing items in sequential order of how they use them (ie : how do you get ready) Prior Engage students in conversation about items that they have in their home – move Knowledge towards creating phrases on what objects they use to get ready in the morning Materials vocabulary posters, French/English dictionary, worksheet, bathroom items Time 5 mins 10 mins What the teacher says/does What the students do Write on board : Bienvenu Chez (teacher Hook/Opening name) - review previous work (also feminine/masculine words) -Give suggestions for how they Hook/Opening prepare for school – encourage - How did you get ready this them to use the new vocabulary morning ? Did you shower, brush your teeth, brush your hair ? Eat breakfast ? - Get students to guess what is in the bag (check prior knowledge to see if they know any of the French vocab to describe these items being guessed) Materials Pre-activity - While showing students different items from the bathrrom bag, write the name of the items on the board - Include pronounciation key on board (agree as a class) - written on the board / smart board projection Pre-activity - Repeat out vocabulary words - Play Simon dit – answer teacher cues, ie : Je brosee le dents avec…. un brosee à dents - bag with bathroom products – must be representative of the new vocab - Play « Simon dit… » - incorporate proper verbs ie : Je brosse le dents avec… avec quoi ??? 25 mins Activity Activity -Each students will be given worksheet – -Students share completed match the picture to the vocab at bottom worksheet with seat partner – - Vocabulary poster (pictures with words) of page -Teacher rotate around the room to help students – facilitate activity and guide students towards answers - Teacher can also incorporate lesson on correct verb use – focus on « utiliser » 5 mins Post-activity - Play « Charades » - teacher will provide the vocab word and students must act it out – try to use the proper verb use - have class split into teams – can only receive points if they answer in french Assessme nt for / of Learning Extension s/ Extra challenge Adaptatio ns Extra support Plan B Back-up Plan check to make sure they have same - French/english answers then will review as a class dictonaries by displaying vocab poster - worksheet (see - place « J’utilise » before proper below) vocab word Post-activity - play charades - answer with proper masc/fem beginning -Before activity, assess students’ interest level in discussing how they get ready in the morning – what items they use – can check prior knowledge for vocabulary -During activity, teacher can rotate around classroom to identify students who may need more help -After activity, teacher can assess student written output by looking at completed worksheet (comprehension of words with correct picture, when using prepositions can check papers to see if they are being used correctly) - teacher can also assess student comfortability of using words and prepositions in conversation with partners - encourage students to look up more bathroom item vocabulary using class dictionaries– can also for other areas of the house ie : eating (types of food, breakfast, lunch, etc.), getting dressed (clothing), driving/walking to school - students can share fidnings with other interested students (double check they have the correct vocabulary first) -For students who are learning French as a 3rd or 4th language, the visual poster will be a learning aid - give students who need extra support an already completed worksheet and have them fill out their own – pair them with a student who is comfortable with the language -If students are having a hard time with vocabulary, we can focus on vocabulary by slowly going over terms. Students visually see the items – written on the board while also witnessing the item being pulled from a bag (students write down vocab in notebooks – repeat orally) 2. Students given worksheet with pictures of bathroom objects – must match up words from their notebook to the correct photo of what object is being used Masculine/feminine – remind them “a/an” Pronounciation key 1.
