FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT in Entomology and Nematology University of California, Davis Chemical Ecologist Title: Assistant Professor in the Entomology and Nematology Department. This is a nine-month academic year tenure-track appointment. The Entomology and Nematology Department has a research, teaching and outreach mission to develop and disseminate comprehensive basic and applied knowledge regarding the interactions among plants, pathogens and their environment. Responsibilities: This is an academic year (9-month) tenure track position that includes the expectation that the successful candidate will develop innovative teaching and research programs, and participate in outreach efforts that contribute to the mission and goals of the University. Research should address fundamental and/or applied aspects of chemical ecology relevant to arthropods or nematodes. Research should be mechanistic in outlook and may benefit from collaborative efforts that draw on expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, population ecology, population genetics and/or epidemiology. Depending on the candidate’s expertise and interests, investigations could range from the molecular and cellular to population and community levels. We seek an individual with interests in chemical ecology who can exploit opportunities to collaborate with existing research programs in ecology, biochemistry, molecular biology or natural products chemistry in the Department of Entomology and Nematology and on the UC Davis campus in general. Research experience should document expertise in the application of modern experimental and computational methodologies to the advancement of basic biology, and the capacity to develop information germane to the management of pests affecting agriculture and/or native plant communities. Teaching is assigned by the department chair and will be in the area of expertise of the successful candidate, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and will include participation in the department’s existing curriculum. Supervision of graduate students, student advising, curricular development, and participation in University service and outreach programs are expected. The appointee is expected to develop a strong extramurally funded research program. Qualifications: The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree in entomology and nematology, microbiology, natural products chemistry or other closely related biological or chemical field. A strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected. Salary: Commensurate with experience.
