He read the Bible a lot. he built his habits of living moral ideals and purposes based on the bible. He was a pacifist Quaker but was interested in military affairs. Married Catharine Littlefield in 1774 Career Path Blacksmith in his fathers iron foundry before the war. Elected to Rhode Island legislature in 1770 and became an eager advocate for American independence from Britain. 1774 helped form the Kentish guards.
