Biographic information
 Born on July 27, 1742
 His education was limited, but he received a




thorough training in the books that were
available at his time.
He read the Bible a lot.
he built his habits of living moral ideals and
purposes based on the bible.
He was a pacifist Quaker but was interested
in military affairs.
Married Catharine Littlefield in 1774
Career Path
 Blacksmith in his fathers iron foundry before
the war.
 Elected to Rhode Island legislature in 1770
and became an eager advocate for American
independence from Britain.
 1774 helped form the Kentish guards.
Major Events
 Expelled from quaked meeting
 Brigadier General in the Continental Army
 In the Battle of Lexington and Concord,
Battle of Long Island, Battle of Harlem
Heights , Battle of Trenton, Valley Forge, and
Battle of Princeton.
