JOURNEY OF MAN
JOURNEY STARTED IN AFRICA
San Bushmen
still live in
Botswana.
 They have the
oldest genes
carried in their
DNA.
 This is where
humans first
exist.

SAN BUSHMEN
San Bushmen are
expert trackers.
 San Bushmen eat
many types of bugs
and herding
animals.

CROSSED ALONG THE COAST TO AUSTRALIA

Spencer Wells
believed that people
were able to cross to
Australia because
there was a drought.
VIA INDIA
Before a group of the
San Bushmen
entered Australia they
passed through India.
 Spencer Wells took
DNA samples on
found a marker that
traces back to the
San Bushmen tribe.

KAZAKHSTAN
A group of people
from Africa went
North to Kazakhstan.
 Spencer Wells found
one man here with a
genetic marker from
the people of the
San Bushmen tribe.

ASIA
From Kazakhstan
people migrated to
all parts of Asia and
started to multiply.
 From here a group of
people went North to
Siberia and adapted
to live in cold
climates.

CHUKCHI PEOPLE
These people live in
the Arctic Circle.
 They herd reindeer
around.
 They rely primarily on
reindeer meat.
 The reindeer eat
lichen under the snow
so when the reindeer
run out of food the
Chukchi people must
move their home to
another location.

CHUKCHI PEOPLE
These people have
smaller limbs and a
shorter trunk.
 This structure retains
heat the best.
 These people adapted
to this type of extreme
environment.

NAVAJO NATIVE AMERICANS
These people have
their own stories of
creation.
 They believe that they
came from the Earth.
 Spencer Wells found
through science that
they are descendents
from the Chukchi
people.

POPULATING THE AMERICAS

People then traveled
and populated from
North America all the
way down to the
south peak of South
America.
WHY DO WE LOOK DIFFERENT BUT STILL MUCH
ALIKE?
We are all African
under the skin.
 People look different
because of isolation
and adaptations to
different
environments.
 One of the reasons
that Spencer Wells is
doing this research is
to show that we are all
connected.
