In your sketchbook, complete 3 contour drawings of your expressive hands that you will use in
your final piece. Be sure to draw what you see, not what you think you see. Draw your hands
large so that it takes up most of your page. Make sure you have lots of detail. Outline your
hands in ink or thin marker.
Once you finish your hands, obtain a second sheet of drawing paper from your teacher.
Carefully cut out your hands and assemble them on to the paper so that Wrists should run off
edge of paper - fingers touch - connect or overlap(see example).
When you are satisfied with your composition, glue down your contour hands to the paper
You now have the hands in the foreground and a blank background, but this will soon change!
Break up your background into smaller shapes. In each shape of the background, create an
interesting pattern.
Show different kinds of lines (thin, thick, wavy, rounded, etc) and a variety of pattern techniques
that you practiced in your zentangle.
Outline in with the fine tip of your sharpie. Then add colour to the background to really make the
expressive hands stand out.

Worked sloppily with the

Your hand gestures are not
very expressive. You used
pen poorly and areas of
