GREAT LEAP FORWARD

The Great Leap Forward took place in 1958. This was Mao’s
attempt to modernize China’s economy. Mao wanted to
modernize China by 1988 so that China would have an
economy that rivalled (make equal) America.

CULTURAL REVOLUTION

The Cultural Revolution movement began in September
1965, with a speech by Lin Piao who wanted people in
schools and colleges to return ti the basic principles of the
revolutionary movement. Cultural Revolution was the
name given to Mao’s attempt to reassert his beliefs in
China.

The Tiananmen Square is located in the center of Beijing
City. The Tiananmen Tower monument to the People’s
Heroes’ Great Hall of People is at the tower. You can see Mao
Zedong Memorial Hall and see the National Flag raising
ceremony.
