It’s good for your child. Research shows that children whose parents are involved in their school have better grades, fewer disciplinary problems, and higher self-esteem. 2. It’s important to the school. With all of the budget cuts, schools are becoming more and more dependent on the PTA for volunteer and financial support. At North Side, PTA volunteers assist the school with various events throughout the year, such as on Picture Day, Kindergarten Orientation and Field Day. They also organize Reflections (a school-wide art contest), take pictures and create North Side’s yearbook, put on a Science Fair for 3rd- 5th graders and give students an opportunity to showcase their talents during the Talent Show. 3. You’ll get connected & be part of a network. There’s no better way to know what’s going on at the school than to be in the PTA. You’ll be the first to hear about important decisions and changes the school is thinking about making and you will get to know teachers and administrators on a familiar basis. Every PTA function is an opportunity to meet other parents in the same situation as you. You will be connected with a group of parents who share a common goal of improving the school for all of the children. 4. You’ll help raise necessary funds. The PTA raises funds to provide more educational services 5. It’s flexible. There are a variety of small ways you can help and be involved. for children. Fundraisers are important to improving the quality of the school. For example, the PTA purchased SMARTboards for more than half of the classrooms here at North Side and paid for assemblies, fieldtrips, the blue attendance notes, and fun events such as June Jubilee. From volunteering for an hour at Bingo Night, to sorting flyers for an event, to helping out at the Book Fair, donating food for Teacher Appreciation Week, to reading in a classroom, the opportunities are endless. And actually, as a PTA member you are not required to volunteer, but we hope that you do! PTA membership and information about volunteer opportunities are available in the multi-purpose room this evening. Or you can to the PTA link on the North Side website. THANK YOU!
