Ms. Sims has 18 years experience in healthcare. Over 8 years as a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and 2
years as either a hospital COO or CEO. Ms. Sims is currently completing her Masters Degree in
Advanced Practice Nursing and will graduate in May 2013.
As a student at the Graduate School of Nursing at Auburn University for Master’s Degree in Advanced
Nursing Practice (CRNP), she will have completed 360 of clinical hours that include Pediatric, Adult,
Women’s Health and Geriatric care. Knowledge of illness, disease management, clinical prevention and
population health concepts to care delivery will be demonstrated throughout practice. The use of
leadership skills in economics of care and evaluating the continuous quality process improvement
process will be incorporated into practice.
As Chief Executive Officer (2009) and Chief Operating Officer (2008-2009) at Southwest Alabama
Medical Center, Mrs. Sims is responsible for managing and directing the operations of the hospital,
strategic planning and physician recruitment. Other responsibilities include budgeting for personnel,
supplies and equipment. Achievements include:







Recruitment of 2 PT Specialty Physicians (Ophthalmologist and Podiatrist)
Recruitment of 1 FT Family Practice and 1 PT Specialty Physician (Urologist)
Decreased staffing cost per hour in the ER (Overtime at 1.1%)
Implemented Medical Screening Program in the Emergency Department
Decreased total expenses for hospital only by 11.3% from 2008 to 2009
Established objectives/criteria needed to be a Level I ER in the Gulf Regional Trauma System
CRNA recruitment
As Chief Nursing Officer at Southwest Alabama Medical Center (2001-2009) (2011) Mrs. Sims was
responsible for the management of all the nursing departments and the respiratory department.
Responsibilities included departmental budgets, performance improvement monitoring, and compliance.
Achievements include:







Implemented PAR system for supplies which resulted in 10.68% supplies as a % of net
Increased patient satisfaction scores to 4.5 on a scale of 1-5
Increased flex pool of nurses to alleviate the need for agency staff
Decreased employee turn over rate from 7% to 3%
Implemented Swing Bed Program
Maintained the necessary requirements to be a CE Provider for the Alabama Board of Nursing
Organized community wide Health Fairs
Served as a LPN, RN, House Supervisor and Emergency Department Manager at Vaughan Regional
Hospital, a 214 bed hospital, in Selma, Al.
Achievements include:



Introduced staffing guidelines within ER department that reduced man hours to 1.59 per visit
COBRA and HCFA QI program which decreased risk premiums 14% in 1998-1999
Developed a program for UAB Residents in the Emergency Department
