Time/Schedule
SWOT analysis is a tool that helped us to better understand our strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as a project manager (Mind Tools, 2013).
The external threat to this project will have to be the time limit due to this course
being eight weeks long. The proposal also took a long time to develop, but it will
serve as the outline to this extensive project.
I created a timeline for all of the milestones of this capstone project. It is useful
because it is the breakdown of tasks that are needed to complete the project within
key dates from the beginning to end. The work breakdown structure (WBS) is an
even more detailed schedule that describes each task and entails all of the project’s
deliverables and activities (Amado et al., 2011). For larger projects, the project
manager must look at the different paths; the longest path is known as the critical
path.
For the quality of the project, we need to look at the scope, time, and cost. The
project scope defines the parameters. Carrying out the work requires the most
time. Time management is the sequence, timeline, and the duration.
Communication(s)
As a project manager, you need effective communication skills. It is important
that you understand what the client wants so that they are pleased with the product
or service. You also need interpersonal skills to work with your project team so
they understand the details of the project. Good communication skills will give
them a sense of direction, aid in problem solving, and effectively manage your
workers without having authority, but working as part of a team (Amado et al.,
2011). Having people skills will help build your team up by creating a sense of
unity and they will respect your role as a leader.
Risk(s)
There are always risks when you do a project. Sometimes unexpected things
happen that you need to have a Plan B in place so that the project moves forward
and you do not lose out on money. Sometimes it may be an oversight on one of
the tasks that was not considered during planning and therefore may have to make
modifications to the project. Crashing the project and compressing the schedule
may affect the quality of the project and meeting cost goals. Fast tracking is when
you are doing two things at once that may not affect the project time because you
are working simultaneously and effectively to meet the project deadline. To
define a successful project is to say you completed the project within the given
time and budget.
