Create a Brain AP Psychology Name: ____________________________________________________ Objective: Students will create a graphic organizer (flip book) of the brain that acts as a review. Students will accomplish this task by creating a model brain that shows each lobe and part within the brain as a “flip book” or cut outs which lift up. Each lobe and part of the brain will also have its function on the reverse of the “flap.” Introduction: While most classes are built on a direct instruction platform it is my belief that AP students should be able to research and learn material on their own with little to no guidance. That is why YOU are researching and mastering the material. Materials: In order to complete this project you will need the following materials: 1. Glue/Tape/Staples 2. Colored Paper 3. Markers/Crayons/ Pencils Directions: Please follow the instructions below according to the rubric in order to receive full credit 1. Research the brain and include the following major parts of the brain in your project: a. The four lobes of the brain. b. Corpus Callosum, Cerebral Cortex, Thalamus, Cerebellum, Pons, Medulla, Reticular Formations, Hippocampus, Pituitary Gland, Hypothalamus, Limbic System, Fornix, Amygdala, Mammillary body, association areas, Broca’s Area, Wernicke’s Area, and the Motor and Sensory Cortex. 2. For each of the lobes and parts of the brain above be sure to define and place them correctly in the brain. 3. Your brain should fill as much of an 8 ½ by 11’’ sheet of paper as possible. You may make it bigger if you wish. Your brain should be made of colored construction paper and cut to look exactly like a model of the brain. Each piece should be labeled and its function defined on the back. Each piece should be cut to the closet size and area within the brain it commands. You may make your brain in one of two ways. a. A single flip book is which neatly organized and each lobe and part of the brain lifts up individually. b. A book that opens and divides the brain into left and right brains. Again, “flaps” will show each lobe and part of the brain that is required above. 4. Your brain must also include a 15 question quiz on the back of the brain (the reverse). These questions must be about the brain and its functions and are not limited to any one lobe or part. In all, your brain should have the following. 1. An 8 ½ by 11’’ or larger 2d brain outline. 2. Each part mentioned above must have a “flap” on your brain with its function written on the reverse. 3. On the back of your brain you must have at least 15 quiz questions about the lobes and parts of the brain. Remember these questions can be on any part of the brain.
