LESSON PLAN 1 – SUSANA CÁRDENAS Class level Classroom Progress expectation Beginner 2 Lesson date Lesson duration August 7th 1 hour By the end of the class the students should be able to know how to describe themselves or somebody else using some adjectives. Subject Usage of adjectives related to personality and appearance. Topic Describing people. (Personality and appearance) Aim Prepare the students to be able to describe people according to their personality and appearance in a real situation in English. Objective Students should be able to give short description about themselves and somebody else in situations that can require it. They should be able to carry out the description even using some synonyms and antonyms. They should also be able to use the present simple structure of the verb to be using 1st person and the 3rd person. Knowledge assumed They students already know the present simple of the verb to be, the 1 st and the 3rd person. They know what a synonym and antonym is. They already know how to introduce themselves and basic greetings in English. Material & equipment We will use visuals: some flashcards shown on the computer to show the vocabulary words. We will also use a whiteboard to write all the vocabulary words. We will also use a worksheet with sentences related to the vocabulary words with the same images from the flashcards. Learning assessment The teacher will make the students repeat the words several times and make sure they pronounce them correctly when the vocabulary words are being shown. During the practice activity the students will read the sentences aloud and the teacher will check if they relate the images to the vocabulary words. After they are finished with the writing task they will also read it aloud to correct it as a group. The teacher will be asking if they are ok with the concepts throughout the class. During conversational activities the teacher will be supervising the students and correcting them when it is necessary. Post lesson notes The lesson started a little late due to organization issues, but the lessons adjusted to the plan quite well, we finished practically all the activities on time. We didn´t have to use any back-ups. We didn’t have to modify any aspect of the lesson. The lesson level was adaptable to the students level, they were able to manage with vocabulary and structures and they learnt new things. They seemed to be having a good time and enjoying the class, and they ended up the class satisfied. The material was very clearly organized but I have to say there were a couple of pictures that could be misleading, and I needed to make some clarifications on them. None of them really understood what the picture referred to the word “confident” meant. They thought it was the word “strong”. All of them behaved appropriately and they were paying attention during the whole class. Two of them were late though, but all of them were very interested. Regarding STT/TTT my presentations were a little bit too long and I didn’t use imperatives at all times due to my tendency to be “nice”, that’s why in some cases I had to repeat the explanations several times until they got to understand, but I didn’t use Spanish at all. We had a very nice atmosphere, the students felt ok, they seemed to feel comfortable and relaxed. Linda got stuck a couple of times but she finally managed. Amalia’s level wasn’t beginner though. She could definitely manage better than everybody else, and Marcelo’s level was maybe lower than anybody else’s. I think the class in general worked well.The visuals was graphic and helpful in general, except for a couple of pictures. They go over them a few times until they recognize them. We do this activity all together. Students read through it first individually and then aloud. Then they read it again and go over those vocabulary words they don’t understand. We read the sentences several times so that they learn how to pronounce. Students fill in the gaps individually. Once they are finished they compare it with their partner. The students will read out the sentences and we will correct them as a group. The others will have to guess who they are talking about. They students will pretend they go to a police station to report his/her friend is missing. They will work in pairs. One of them will be the policeman/ woman and the other will be the citizen. They will have to act out a dialogue. She was a little embarrassed about pronouncing. She was hard-working, she always made sure she could understand. Not shy at all. A little overwhelmed in some occasions. His level was real beginner. He attitude was fine but felt a little embarrassed. It was kind of hard for him to understand. Her level was higher. She could have a conversation in English better than everybody else. She was enthusiastic and had a nice attitude towards the class.
