DIRECTIONS: To help you prepare for your test on Ecology, complete each of the review activities described
below. The activities require you to use materials at the lab tables, and then obtain your teacher’s signature to
show they have been correctly completed. Be sure to follow the instructions for each activity, and attach all
completed worksheets when finished!
ACTIVITY 1: FOOD WEBS

5. On the back of this worksheet, complete the “Study Guide Chapter 2 Section 2: Flow of Energy in an
Ecosystem” questions (p. 50).

ACTIVITY 3: CYCLING OF MATTER IN ECOSYSTEMS

Teacher Check:
Examine the note cards on the table. Each card contains information about the carbon, water,
nitrogen, and phosphorus cycles. Arrange the cards in the appropriate order on the chart. Once you
have the cards properly organized, raise your hand for your teacher to check your work.
2. Find the worksheet labeled “Study Guide Chapter 2 Section 3: Cycling of Matter” (p. 51-52). Use the
information in the chart you made to complete both sides of this worksheet.
ACTIVITY 4: SUCCESSION IN ECOSYSTEMS
Teacher Check:

Examine the diagrams of ecological succession in a forest. Which diagram shows primary
succession? Which diagram shows secondary succession? How do you know?

Find the worksheet titled “Study Guide Chapter 3 Section 1: Community Ecology” (p. 85-86). Use the
diagrams and your notes to help you complete BOTH sides of this worksheet.
ACTIVITY 5: BIOMES

Teacher Check:
Use what you know about Biomes to complete the “Concept Mapping: Terrestrial Biomes” activity (p.
84).
2. Find the activities labeled “Study Guide Chapter 3 Section 2: Terrestrial Biomes” (p. 87) and “Study
Guide Chapter 3 Section 3: Aquatic Ecosystems (p. 88). First, match up the vocabulary note cards on
the table with the appropriate definition. Raise your hand so that your teacher can check that your
words are correctly matched. Then, use these vocabulary terms to help you complete the worksheet.
ACTIVITY 6: POPULATIONS
