Federalism in 200 Years
 Federalism- Power that is distributed between
national and state government.
 It came along because they did not want people to get
too much power and take over
How to divide the powers
 They started out by giving some powers to the national
government
 Certain powers they kept for the state government like
control over education
 Some powers like taxing both state and national
government have
 Things like licensing lawyers and setting up schools
are not mentioned
The Different Kinds of Fed.
 Dual federalism "layer cake federalism" involves
clearly defined powers between the national and state
governments, and both have equal power.
 Cooperative federalism "marble cake federalism,"
involved the national and state governments sharing
functions and collaborating on major national
priorities.

relationship was characterized by overloaded
cooperation and crosscutting regulations.
