Slide 2- NRA because the second amendment deals with the right to have a gun. This is
important because all other rights you have are only good if they are protected, and if the
government ever fails to do so, then a person with a gun hopefully could step up and maintain that
protection
Slide 3- Christian Coalition because it seems to imply that our nation was founded on
Christian/religious principles
Slide 4- ACLU because it seems to be in favor of a strict separation of church and state (notice
both quotes in slides 3 and 4 were by the same person, John Adams. Either he contradicted
himself or it is a great example of groups “picking and choosing” quotes to suit their agenda)
Slide 5- Club for Growth because it warns of the potential negative consequences of too much
government interference and thus seems to promote limiting the role of government
Slide 6- Greenpeace because it seems to argue for taking care of the earth for our children’s sake
Slide 7- Club for Growth because it seems to find justification for the desire for less taxes in the
fact that some of the causes of the American Revolution centered around unfair taxation
Slide 8- NOW because it implies women get paid less for the same work based solely on the fact
that they are women, something NOW vehemently opposes
Slide 9- ACLU because it seems to warn of the danger of a lack of separation of church and state,
implying that part of the reason the Taliban regime is/was so repugnant is because they have
almost NO separation of church and state, and that those who support weakening the separation
(via prayer in schools, etc) are on a slippery slope towards a middle eastern type theocracy
Slide 10- Club for Growth because it implies that government taxation is a form of theft (and
would thus support lower taxes)

Slide 11- National Right to Life Committee because by pointing out this inconsistency in many
state laws (that if someone else kills an unborn baby it is murder, but if the mother does it it is
perfectly legal) it seems to be against abortion
Slide 12- ACLU because it seems to be in favor of a person’s right to use marijuana for their own
personal use. It reasons that the war on drugs has not only failed to prevent drug use, but has
actually led to more danger than the drugs themselves (through forcing non violent offenders into
prisons where they are exposed to violent offenders, and through allowing violent gangs/drug
cartels to spring up in their attempts to control the black market of drugs, whereas if certain drugs
were legalized these cartels would lose much of their power and influence)
Slide 13- National Right to Life Committee because it argues that since most people who are pro
choice (meaning they favor women having the right to abortion) would probably NOT be pro
choice about their own life (meaning they are glad they exist and are glad their mom DID not abort
them), therefore the fact that they are pro choice about anyone’s life is a bit hypocritical
Slide 14- Club for Growth because it implies that when government tries to expand in order to
solve the problems faced by society, it oftentimes just makes things worse. Therefore, a limited
government is best
Slide 15- NRA because, though at first glance it seems to be advocating gun control, when you
look at who the experts are (Hitler, Stalin, Mao) it seems to be implying that you shouldn’t be in
favor of gun control because those dictators used gun control and you don’t want to be like them,
right? It is similar to the argument used in slide 9 in that it discredits the opposing side by finding
someone undesirable who shares that same opinion
Slide 16- NOW because it seems to be in favor of abortions by implying that if abortions were
banned, they would still happen, just in back alleys by women using coat hangers on themselves.
Therefore, by keeping abortion legal, you at least allow women a safe option and don’t put them 44
into a position where they might injure themselves or worse

Slide 17- ACLU because it implies that, because they accept the findings of modern day science,
they are more “evolved” than some fundamentalist Christians and others who do not believe in the
theory of evolution. It also pokes fun at the famous Christian symbol of the fish (Ichthys) by writing
Darwin’s name in it (the founder of the theory of evolution) and adding feet to it (a nod to the
common evolutionary beliefs that marine mammals still have vestigial limbs because they evolved
from land mammals)
Slide 18- People for the American Way because it appears to be in favor of gay marriage. It
attacks one of the main arguments against gay marriage, that marriage is a sacred institution
between a man and a woman, by saying if you really wanted to protect marriage, you would ban
divorce, infidelity, or a number of other things heterosexual couples engage in
Slide 19- PETA because it seems to be against eating animals
Slide 20- National Right to Life Committee because it seems to be against abortion by arguing
that the fetus really is a child with rights. I wonder if the flames are meant to evoke a certain place
where bad people go? :-)
Slide 21- Club for Growth because it utilizes the concept of “there is no such thing as a free
lunch”. Meaning “free”, universal healthcare will have to be paid for somehow, probably by higher
taxes
Slide 22- ACLU because it argues for separation of church and state. A “theocracy” is a
government based upon God. It seems to imply that those who favor weakening the wall between
church and state are attempting to set up a theocracy, which goes against the type of government
most people advocate, democracies
Slide 23- Christian Coalition because it appears to make fun of the ACLU’s efforts to get
companies to quit saying “Merry Christmas” in favor of the more politically correct “Happy
45
Holidays” (the Christian Coalition would be in favor of continuing to say “Merry Christmas”
because it is more in line with their values)

Slide 24- NOW because it argues for a women’s right to make choices that concern her own
body, like abortion. The “mythology” part comes into play because the reason many people
oppose a woman’s right to choose is for religious reasons. It could also be ACLU because it warns
against using religious beliefs to affect policy decisions because not everyone shares those beliefs
Slide 25- PETA because it implies that great nations treat their animals great
Slide 26- PETA because it is arguing against the wearing of animal fur because it endangers
animals
Slide 27- Club for Growth because it is implying that Obama will tax people so much that all they
will have left is “change” (a pun on his 2008 election slogan)
Slide 28- This could either be PETA (because stopping global warming will save penguins, as well
as other animals) or Greenpeace (because it will help the environment in general)
Slide 29- NOW because it argues that just as someone who is pro life would want a say in their
family planning/reproductive choice, so too someone who is pro choice should be afforded the
same say, even though they may go about it a different way
Slide 30- NAACP because it highlights the contributions of African Americans
Slide 31- NRA because it implies a favorability of gun rights, via the movie “Scarface” and Tony
Montana
Slide 32- Club for Growth because it is in favor of less taxes. It takes a controversial quote
Obama made in 2008 (the need to spread the wealth) and implies that if the poor would just get
some of the desire to work hard that wealthy people have, they wouldn’t need the money of
wealthy people (that the government takes via taxes and gives to the poor) because they would
be making some of their own

Slide 33- ACLU because it argues for the legalization of marijuana because it could be a source
of government revenue if taxed
Slide 34- ACLU because it argues for legalization of marijuana via a play on words on an Obama
campaign slogan
Slide 35- People for the American Way because it argues for gay rights by implying they are just
as important as the civil rights of blacks and women
Slide 36- Greenpeace because it seems to be arguing for alternative sources of energy that are
more environmentally sustainable than oil
Slide 37- Greenpeace because it argues that pollution affects everyone
Slide 38- Christian Coalition because it links the increasing secularization of schools with the
increase in school violence
Slide 39- NOW because it implies that women can be both sexy and intelligent
Slide 40- NOW because it argues that women are fit for high political office by putting a new twist
on the old saying “a woman’s place is in the house”
Slide 41- National Right to Life Committee because it argues that the “choice” of whether or not to
have kids should be made BEFORE engaging in sex, not AFTER someone is pregnant
