Homework/Pre-Assignment:
1) Review the “Learning How to Read the Bible” handout. Use the twelve reading
strategies listed and read Matthew 11:28-30, paying attention to terms and grammatical
structure. Write down a list of what you observe. Should be a couple of pages.
2) Complete the “Locating Library Resources in your Community” form and obtain a
library card from at least one library. Check out a book in the religious section that
interests you and write down the name of the book you checked out along with the name
of the author, publisher and publishing year. This information is to be written on page
four of the “Locating Library Resources in your Community” form. You will be writing
a book review on this book later in the training.
3) Purchase the following book: How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth A Guide to
Understanding the Bible by Gordon D. Fee and Douglas Stuart, Zondervan, 1993.
5
