Tutorial

Welcome to EBSCO’s tutorial about searching and browsing the Business Searching Interface (BSI). This
specialized business interface includes an array of features to provide users with a high level of control
over the development of their search strategies. It also features easy access to search options such as
Company Information and Industry Profiles, all from the Basic Search Screen.
The Business Searching Interface supports the Business Source database product line. The specific
database(s) being searched with the interface are represented above the Find field on the Basic and
Advanced Search screens as well as the Result List screen. Click on the Basic Search link at any time
to return to this screen.
We will start our search by entering a company name and then selecting Company from the dropdown menu before clicking Search.
Your search begins with available matches in the Company Name index. Check the box in front of the
desired company name in the list, and click the Search button to find articles indexed under the
selected company name. Or, add more search terms to the Find field before clicking Search.
From the Result List you can save articles to a folder by clicking on the folder icon to the right of the title.
To store the article in a personalized folder, click the Sign In link in the top toolbar to create or access your
personal My EBSCOhost account. For additional Help using My EBSCOhost folders, click on Help in the
upper-right corner.
In addition to searching, the Basic Search screen also features Browse links to view alphabetical lists of
Company or Industry Profiles, and Country or Market Research Reports. Next we will explore the
Company Profiles
Enter a company name in the Browse for field and click Browse. A result list of available Company
Profiles is displayed. Click on the MarketLine Report link to view the Company Profile for a company in
the result list.
The Company Profile is displayed in the PDF Full Text Viewer. From the table of contents on the left, you
can select a specific section of the report to read. You can print, email, or add the Company Profile using
the tools in the right column. The Company Profile can be saved by clicking the Save icon in the Adobe
Reader toolbar.
You can also use the Business Searching Interface to search for certain types of documents, such as
SWOT Analyses. In this example we will use the Business Source Corporate edition to search for a SWOT
Analysis for Sony Corp., outlining the company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. From
the Advanced Search screen, enter Sony corp in the Find field and select CO Company Entity from the
drop-down menu. Apply the Full Text limiter and click Search.
A result list is displayed. Under Source Types on the left side, click Show More and then check the
SWOT Analyses source type. Click Update to view a result list limited to SWOT Analyses.
Click on the PDF Full Text in the result list to read the SWOT Analysis.
At any time, click on the Help link to view the complete online help system.
