As defined by Wikipedia, a partnership is an arrangement where parties agree to cooperate to advance their mutual interests. Organizations may partner together to increase the likelihood of each achieving their mission and to amplify their reach.
The Division of Academic Outreach at Coastal Carolina University provides the best in adult education throughout the Grand Strand, Conway and Waccamaw Neck areas. OLLI, housed in the
Division of Academic Outreach at Coastal Carolina University, seeks to provide opportunities for older adult, noncredit students to achieve intellectual stimulation, as well as cultural and social growth, while fostering a close, lasting and mutually beneficial relationship between the students and the University. Lifelong Learning courses are designed to meet the needs and interests of older adults in these communities and are offered during day and evening hours at 3 convenient locations.
OLLI is a membership organization. The membership fee is $20 per semester (fall and spring). This fee is required whether you are signing up for a one-day workshop, multiple courses or a special interest group. A number of benefits are associated with the OLLI membership.
By appealing to the OLLI membership through the weekly eNewsletter, we have gained partners in the two major areas we are seeking : Cultural Arts & Travel and Health & Wellness benefits . Each is providing discounted admission, performance or membership fees to current OLLI members in exchange for free publicity in our newsletter. Since we share the same market (50+, educated, active) and now count 4,000 newsletter recipients weekly, the partners are reporting increased attendance and frequent reference to “OLLI” as their source of information. The details of the partnerships are delineated in the newsletter, catalogs, member handbook, pre-semester news features, Free
Week and online. For both resident and snowbird students, the OLLI
“benefit package” is viewed as a major value in and of itself. For some, participation in special interest groups (free with membership) and the university’s and community’s cultural offerings constitute their total engagement in the program; for others, these amenities supplement their active course enrollment.
For all, they are coming to identify themselves as part of the OLLI learning community.

First and foremost our members benefit.
The partners benefit from the exposure they receive from their special activities being promoted in our weekly newsletter which reaches 4000 individuals in the community.
Theatre of the Republic – has seen the results of partnering. They regard OLLI as a guaranteed audience for sponsor preview performances.
During our Free Week introductory presentation OLLI members have praised the benefits to new/prospective members.
Staff turnover in the partnership and failure of new staff understanding.
Two partners sold to new owners in mid-semester and terminated agreements.
Initially the university offered free tickets to OLLI members for sporting events but as the teams have excelled and paid attendance increased that partnership has faltered.
Community Partnership
Conclusion
With three geographically divided locations , we recognized the need to find matching partnerships for each location if at all possible.
We have had many opportunities to unite with other organizations to partner & endorse their product/service.
We have been selective because when we say this is a “good thing” we want to be trusted.
Our benefits package is really beneficial culturally, economically, physically and intellectually.
In exchange for these special rates, our catalog and weekly e-newsletter highlights their partnership with OLLI and the weekly e-newsletter includes special events and activities being held at the various locations.
Our OLLI members look to the e-Newsletter to see what activities to participate in and what new partners we have added.
An extensive list of our Community Partnerships and all the classes, Clubs , perks & plans can be found in our Catalog. We have one for each of you.
