CP 9th: Vocabulary Directions
Go to: www.vocabtest.com or get the link from our class website at:
mrsnicolehamilton.weebly.com
Click on “Vocabulary Workshop Book Level”
Click on “Level D” and the unit we are currently working on.
We will study 20 words every two weeks. I suggest you study 10 words one week and the remaining
10 words the following week. You can learn and practice the words by doing the different exercises
on the website. I suggest you start by learning the definitions, so go to “Learning Definitions”
and/or “Reverse Definitions” first. Note that if you get a question wrong, it asks you the question
again later until you get it right! At the end it will show you how many you got right/wrong, etc. It
also shows you how most students who take this test do. It asks at the bottom if you want to email
the results to anyone – you may want to send them to yourself – it is a list of the words and
definitions! But DO NOT send these to me. You may also choose to print this page out as it has
the entire list of words for the week with the definitions. When you are done looking at the results,
you can click on “Vocab. Test Main” at the top and it will bring you back to the main screen so you
can try another test, exercise, or game.
We will be completing vocabulary activities in class and every two weeks on a Friday, we will have a
quiz on 20 words (Units have a total of 20 words).
Here is what you must learn and when (note that these quiz/test dates are subject to change):
 Week one: Unit 1 (admonished-unbridled) – Quiz on Friday Sept. 4
 Week three: Unit 2 (adjourn – unflinching) – Quiz on Friday Sep. 18
 Week three: Unit 3 (abridge – usurp) – Quiz on Friday Oct. 2
 Week four: Unit 4 (abscond – revile) Quiz on Friday Oct. 16
 Week five: Unit 5 (accomplice – succumb) – Quiz on Friday Oct. 30
 Week six: Unit 6 (atone – tenacious) – Quiz on Friday Nov. 13
 Unit 1-6 Test: Dec. 11
For each test, you must know:
 The definitions of each word
 The part of speech (noun, verb, adjective, or adverb)
 How to use the word in a sentence
 Synonyms
 Antonyms
 Where the stress mark is in a word
 How to spell the word
This is a lot to learn every two weeks! You must study at home.
