“The Interlopers” Analysis Prompt
After reading “The Interlopers,” you will need to write an analytical paragraph over the
story’s plot. Below you will find a list of analytical questions concerning plot; you will need
to pick one question as the focus of your paragraph. In order to receive full credit, you must
develop a fluent paragraph complete with a clear topic sentence, a minimum of three direct
supporting details, and a strong conclusion.





What parts of the plot did you find to be most significant? Why?
What were the turning points in this plot for you? Why?
What situation meant the most to you as you read this story? Why?
If you could change the resolution of the story, would you? How would you change
it?
How does the author’s use of foreshadowing affect the plot development?
To receive full credit, your paragraph must meet the following guidelines:
1. Correct MLA heading and title (1.5 points)
2. Typed, double-spaced in a normal 12-point font (1.5 points)
3. Contains a clear topic sentence that introduces the author, title, and answer to the
question selected for the plot analysis (2 points)
4. Contains a minimum of three strong and specific supporting details (3 points)
5. Contains a strong conclusion that sums up your thoughts (1 point)
6. Smooth transitions are used to connect support (1 point)
