LEARNING EXPECTATIONS
Learn that the Goalie (keeper) is the only one allowed to use their hands in soccer.
Learn how to dribble a ball.
Learn how to pass the ball to another player.
Learn how to shoot the ball into the goal.
Learn how to keep the ball inside the playing field.
Learn how to throw the ball inbounds with both feet behind the touch line, using two hands on the ball
and throwing overhead.
7? Learn the importance of playing nice – and not to kick, trip, hit, push, or hold another player.
8? Learn to play so others won’t get hurt and not to say mean things to anyone.
9? Learn that soccer is a really fun game!

Equipment

Shin Guards, completely covered by socks, must be worn for all games and all practices.
All players must wear athletic shoes or soccer cleats (no toe cleat).
No boots or sandals will be allowed.
Size “3” soccer ball will be used for U6 games.
No jewelry is allowed while playing. This is for your own safety. Put a piece of tape over new
piercings.
Games
1• 3 players – 3 field players; no goalie
2• Play consists of four (4) 8 minute quarters with 1 minute break between quarters; 5 minute halftime break.
3• Each player will play a minimum of 50% of the game.
4• Four-Point Rule: If one team is ahead by four points, the team that is behind can add a player to
the field, up to two players. That player will be taken off the field as the point spread lessens. (i.e.
Score of
6-2 = second team add 1 player, Score 7-2, second team = add 2 players) It is the
coach's responsibility to know when a player needs to be added.
The Referee
1• One certified referee provided.
2• Referees will briefly explain rule infractions.
3• The referee and coaches will ensure that players and coaches are on one side of the field, on
their respective half, and that spectators are on the other side of the field.
Start of Play
1• Conform to FIFA, with the exception of distance due to the size of the filed.
2• Players will be corrected following a two-touch start and allowed to re-kick.

Offside
There is no offside offense.
Free Kicks
1• There are no free kicks.
2• There are no penalty kicks.
Throw In
Both feet are behind the touch line on the ground, uses both hands, delivers the ball from over his head.
Goal Kick
There are no goal kicks. A throw in from the touch line, near the corner, will replace a goal kick.
Corner Kick
Conform to FIFA with the exception of distance due to field size.
Substitutions
A player may be replaced at any time without a stoppage in the game.
Scoring
No official score will be kept or recorded.
Fouls and Misconduct
A throw-in will be awarded to the opposing team if:
1• A player kicks, trips, strikes, pushes or holds an opponent
2• A player uses his hands on the ball
3• A player plays in a dangerous manner
4• A player spits at an opponent, uses foul language or verbally assaults a player/coach/referee - For
these last offenses a player will be removed from the game for a time.
NOTE: A handball is when the “player plays the ball, not the ball plays the player”. If the player uses any part
of the shoulder down to his fingertips to direct the ball, it is a handball.

U-8 PLAYER
LEARNING EXPECTATIONS
1? Understand that the Goalie (keeper) is the only one allowed to use hands in soccer.
2? Be able to dribble, pass, shoot and begin to trap the ball.
3? Begin to learn to play in positions (ie, forward, mid-fielder, defender). Each player should rotate
through most positions.
4? Begin to play as a team.
5? Understand that there are consequences if they kick, trip, hit, push or hold onto another player.
Understand also not to use their hands (shoulder to fingertips), to play dangerously, use foul
language or say mean things to other players.
6? Learn about good sportsmanship.
7? Understand how to throw a ball inbounds with both feet on the ground behind the touch line, using
both hands with the ball overhead.
8? Begin to learn positioning for kick off, corner kicks, throw ins and goal kicks.
9? Know that soccer is a lot of fun and it is OK to make mistakes!

2• A player uses his hands on the ball
3• A player plays in a dangerous manner
4• A player spits at an opponent, uses foul language or verbally assaults a player/coach/referee For these last offenses a player will be removed from the game for a time.

LEARNING EXPECTATIONS
1? Play in positions most of the time. Players at this age should not be locked into one position, but
allowed to try many.
2? Play as a team.
3? Perform proper throw in.
4? Learn the offside rule.
5? Demonstrate good sportsmanship, including playing within the “spirit” of the Law.
6? Understand positioning for kick offs, free kicks, corner kicks, throw ins and goal kicks.
7? Begin to understand that soccer is a “thinking” game as well as a physical one.
8? Know that soccer is still a lot of fun and it is still OK to make mistakes!

Each player will play a minimum of 50% of the game.
No slide tackling is allowed.
Four-Point Rule: If one team is ahead by four points, the first coach is required to discreetly move
the strong player to a weaker position. If the point spread increases up to five points, the second
coach can add a player to the field, up to two players. That player will be taken off the field as the
point
spread lessens. (i.e. Score of 6 -2, first team = weaker position, Score of 7-2, second team = add
1 player, Score 8-2, second team = add 2 players) It is the coach's responsibility to know when a
player needs to be added.

Free Kicks
1• Penalty Kicks will be awarded for flagrant fouls by the defense inside the penalty box.
2• All free kicks, direct or indirect, will be held outside goal box.
3• Kick is re-taken after a two-touch.
Throw In
Faces field of play – has part of each foot either on the touch line or behind it on the ground, uses both hands,
delivers ball from behind and over his head. The referee will allow one re-throw after instruction.
Goal Kick
1• Conform to FIFA with the exception of distance due to field size.
2• Goalie may take up to 6 seconds to release the ball inside the penalty area.
3• Players on the opposing team are required to stay behind the goal kick (dashed) line until the
ball crosses over it or until the ball is touched by a second player on the kicking team.
4• The Goal keeper is not allowed to punt the ball over the dashed line on the far side of the field.
Corner Kick
Conform to FIFA with the exception of distance due to field size.
Substitutions

Referee must be informed before substitutions are made.
Players enter & exit at the halfway line.
There are no substitutions during a corner kick or free kick.

1• The goalie takes more than 6 seconds to release the ball.
2• The goalie touches the ball again after it has been released from his hands.
3• A player plays in a dangerous manner.
4• The goalkeeper punts the ball over the dashed line on
field. Kick is awarded at the point it flew over the line.
