My smartphone application will allow users to record the sound of a small part of a movie or television show and pull up all of the information dealing with the movie or TV show. The information that will be brought up will be the title, actors, story line, reviews, soundtracks and other similar features. This application will be similar to the Shazam app but instead of determining a song it will determine the movie or television show. The audience for this application is very broad. A person that watches television or movies would benefit from this app. The application will be very straightforward and easy to use so it will be easily accessible for all ages. The application will be available for all smart phones so users will be able to use it wherever they are. The website Internet Movie Database can also give users the same information on the movie or television show but requires more work. The application I have designed will make it easier for users to acquire the information. Page 5 Spring 2013 Anthony Do (Hairstyle Designer) Have you ever been tired of your hairstyle and wanted to try something new but were too afraid of the sudden change? Well I propose an application that will take those worries away. This application will provide a user the ability to take a picture of themself and try different hairstyles of their liking. The users will have the option of picking from a realistic pre-set library of hairstyles. Also, the users will have the option of cropping hairstyles from any picture, such as a celebrity. Within the application, the user will have the ability to manipulate the orientation of the hairstyles and change the physical properties. This application will be available on all portable and mobile devices running an iOS, Android or Microsoft operating system. The expected audiences are those that have ever wanted a change in their current hair style; they will now be able to safely see themselves in a new hairstyle without the worries of uncertain permanent change. This application could surely be used within hair salons; instead of having outdated hairstyle books laying around, this application could be installed on tablets for the customers to use. This application will have many competitors on its platform’s market. What sets this application apart is that other similar applications do not have realistic hairstyles for their end users. My proposed application will give the end user a realistic representation of how they will look in a hairstyle to their liking. Page 6 Spring 2013 Tommy Mai (Item Identifier) Many times people have trouble recalling the name of a product, either a physical item of some sort or food. When people cannot remember what it is called, they ponder to find the name. What if there is an app or website where we can put in many description of what the item is and the program searches for possible matches to the description? The app can be called “Item Identifier (aka “II”),” this problem will allow users to enter as many descriptions as they like and then use those inputs to search for matches. There will be classifications to go with the search such as: food, household, office, etc to help narrow the search. This would be a great app especially for people with memory problems who cannot remember names of physical things. The targeted audiences are any people who tend to forget the names of items and want to figure out what it is. There are internets site out there such as Google that can help look up things, but it is does not have the capabilities like this app. With cooperation and permission of Google, we can use it to help power and fulfill the app’s job. Page 7 Spring 2013 Andrew Nelson (Mall Map Application) Businessman and women travel all the time to many unfamiliar parts of the United States. Many times they are forced to remain in a specific area for weeks at a time and getting around in any unfamiliar city is a nightmare. One thing that I have noticed is that during the weekend many of these people spend time at the local malls trying to guide themselves to the different shops but have trouble understanding the maps. My idea is an application that would be used to help guide these men and woman to different stores without hassle. The idea that I had would simplify the process of spending time inside a mall. There is already a set database of mall maps on the Internet but there is not any type of application for download that you can view every mall map in one specified application. Not only would this give the user the ability to pull up any mall map on their phone but it would give them the opportunity to select a specific store and have the exact location show up on the map. This not only gives the user a comprehensive experience but saves time, saving the user from looking for a specific store. Page 8 Spring 2013 William Wiesler (Video Enhancer App) Ever since I’ve gotten a smartphone, I’ve been trying to utilize every bit of it I can to get the best results from it. The one thing that I’ve noticed that is lacking in phones and tablets right now is their usage on things such as movies and television shows, and other apps like Netflix and Hulu. I believe I have come up with a solution to truly maximize our enjoyment of cinema and film through a home theater application. This application should revolutionize the way we view media on our portable electronics. The purpose of this app is to give the view the perfect equalization of lighting, sound, and quality. Much like televisions, there are certain viewing effects that you can use to adjust to get the best quality view for whatever you’re watching. Also, sound is a very important factor, especially when using the right EQ settings with whatever you’re watching. This application will contain preset EQs for both lighting effects and sound effects, thus giving the customer easy access to change settings to fit whatever they are viewing. The target audience is all portable electronics users, because viewing media is more common than not in today’s society. Our competitors will most likely be groups like Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu, because they will be try to come up with their own applications that are associated with each other. This is where our application will beat all these competitors – it will become available to use on ALL video applications. The best way to make this into a success is by dividing up the workload by separating into groups that are designed specifically for one company each. Also, one group will be assigned to establish the EQ settings that will be the presets to go into all the video applications. Also, it will be up to another team to create the design of the application itself. We will want it to run in the background of the device so that it doesn’t block what the customer is already viewing. We also want to make it so that the app can be used to adjust settings easily and without harming the data on the phone. Page 9 Spring 2013 Sparks Inc.’s Final Decision Have you ever been in a bind where you are completely lost in a shopping mall or a parking lot, or just simply want to know the store’s information and what stores items are trending? The application that Sparks Inc. would like to propose is an application that offers a database of all shopping malls, within the United States. Within the application, users will be able to select any shopping malls and see a full map of the mall’s layout, alongside with their information and consumer comments. Information such as customer reviews and photos will also be offered under each store’s profile that will be primarily submitted by users. Another feature to our application will be the ability to save the location of where users park their car. Our application will be able to assist any age range of consumers, from a consumer that is unfamiliar with the shopping mall to one that simply wants to know what is currently trending. Our group’s idea stemmed based on Andrew Nelson’s initial idea. The two primary points that we wanted to hit are, providing convenience and to be user friendly. As we discussed Andrew’s idea, each one of us had a common need, the accessibility of store information and location. We all were aware that most shopping malls have their own proprietary application, but to have a single application that has a database of all US shopping malls will provide ease and convenience to the users, especially travelers. This application will be offered on all mobile and portable devices that has an operating system of iOS, Android, or Windows.
