Inclusion Criteria for Case Definition
- Blood platelet count less than 50,000 per microliter
 At least two repeated measures between 1-7 days
- Symptoms and signs that can “potentially indicate” thrombocytopenia
 Bruises that develop easily
 Bleeding gums or nosebleeds
 Bloody stool or urine
 Petechiae –- small red or purple spots on skin or mucous membranes.
This is the most “strongest” symptom of all indicating
Thrombocytopenia.
 Ecchymoses –- purple, blue, or greenish, irregularly shaped patches of
skin
-
Subjects be prescribed and administered the following list of drugs. Note
that, this list is derived from
(http://bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org/content/116/12/2127/T2.expansi
on.html) which indicates statistically significant association of the drug with
thrombocytopenia as reported in FDA’s AERS database.
These drugs should be present/administered within 30 days before OR 3
days after the low platelet count.
