Exemption from sitting the 2015 WACE examinations – VET
VET students seeking exemption from sitting the 2015 WACE examinations must submit an
application to their school. Those students wishing to be exempt from selected examinations but to
remain enrolled to sit one or two other examinations must indicate on the Exemption from sitting the
2015 Stage 3 WACE examinations – VET form which examination/s they wish to sit. This form follows
below.
On receipt of a completed form, schools are required to apply, in SIRS, for an exemption for the
student from sitting an examination.
Schools will be notified of the outcome of the student exemption application immediately after the
information is submitted in SIRS. In addition to the approval status being indicated on the SIRS
application screen, an email will be sent to the user’s SIRS inbox. Schools are prompted to verify the
outcome by running report CSE168 Stage 3 Examination Exemption Application Outcome for VET
students. School must check the details of the outcome prior to the deadline for applications because
corrections or amendments will not be possible after the deadline.
Completed Exemption from sitting the 2015 WACE examination forms are school records and must
not be sent to the School Curriculum and Standards Authority for authorisation. Forms sent to the
Authority for exemption authorisation will not be accepted. These forms must be retained by the
school until all achievement data has been accepted and verified and statements of results have been
issued by the Authority.
Applications for students seeking exemption from sitting all exams must be completed in SIRS by
Wednesday, 1 July 2015. After this date, this SIRS facility will be locked and no further applications
or amendments will be accepted.
The following additional procedure is required when an exempt student has indicated he/she wants to
sit one or two examinations. After the relevant information has been entered in SIRS and
authorisation has been received, the school must email an electronic copy of the exemption form,
including the details for the courses in which the student wishes to remain enrolled in the examination,
to enrolments@scsa.wa.edu.au. Applications for exempt students wishing to remain enrolled to sit
one or two examinations must be received at the Authority by Monday, 27 July 2015.
Please note that all VET enrolments and course unit enrolments must be entered into SIRS for
students applying for an exemption before they apply. Student applications cannot be processed until
this information is uploaded into SIRS.

Exemption from sitting the 2015 Stage 3 WACE examinations – VET
Schools use this form to assist in the transfer of data to the School Curriculum and Standards Authority.
The Authority will conduct random checks of the evidence of parent permission or other details indicated in
this form if required. This form must be kept by the school until all data has been accepted and verified for
printing on the statement of results.
Students in Year 12 that meet the following criteria are eligible to apply by the date specified in the 2015 WACE activities schedule
for a VET exemption:

Students with VET enrolments in units of competency (from related industry areas) in excess of 220 nominal hours in Year 12
that lead to achievement in full or partial qualifications and are enrolled in three or fewer examinable Stage 2 and/or Stage 3
pairs of units are eligible to apply for an exemption from sitting the Stage 3 WACE examinations.

Students who are enrolled to complete an Aboriginal School Based Traineeship/Apprenticeship, School Based Traineeship/
Apprenticeship or Pre-Apprenticeship in Year 12 and are enrolled in three or fewer Stage 2 and/or Stage 3 pairs of units are
also eligible to apply for an exemption from sitting the Stage 3 WACE examinations.
