Welcome to Lawton Christian Primary School! Our goal is to build academic excellence and Christian character in an environment pleasing to God.
We are blessed with a campus that invites learning in a loving, peaceful environment. Our teachers are well-educated, trained individuals who have a love for the Lord and a commitment to work with young people to help them to be more like Christ. It is our desire to be an extension of the Christian home where biblical values are taught and exemplified.
Much care is taken to teach our students how to make choices that are pleasing to God. We realize that in life there are many temptations, but we realize that we have a great impact on helping students to come against those things which would pull them down. Christian character is promoted on a daily basis in all areas of the school.
We desire committed families who are willing to work with our staff in promoting academic and character building success. Enrollment of children in Lawton Christian School is a privilege, not a right. Parents must understand that continued enrollment and re-enrollment of their children is dependent on their support of the school, its staff, and its policies.
Our school exists because of dedicated people who have sacrificed to build and maintain the school.
This is God’s school and His hand is definitely on it. We lift up Jesus Christ proclaiming that He is the truth and the life. We encourage a personal relationship with Him. His presence is felt daily as we minister to the students.
We are “building a future for life!”
This handbook contains a summary of school information, policies and programs. It is designed for easy referral for both the students and parents. It is your responsibility to read the material contained within this handbook and to uphold the rules, policies and procedures stated.
If, during the year, you have questions or issues regarding a specific class or grade, please contact the teacher. A very convenient way to do this is through the RenWeb online grade book system, which can be accessed at www.renweb.com
.
Please remember that at any time, information and/or policies may change to reflect current needs of the student body and school. The administration reserves the right to make such changes as the need arises.

“O Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.” (Psalms 8:1)
“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (Psalms 119:105)
LCS is an interdenominational Christian school that holds to the belief that the Bible is the infallible divine
Word of God and that salvation by faith in Christ is the initial step in the Christian life. Without denominational preference or boundaries, we unashamedly purpose to pray for our students, present
God’s perspective in all academic subjects, and to challenge each student to live up to his/her full potential. In this atmosphere of positive Christian standards, scholastic planning, and individualized personal attention, there is opportunity for development of strong Christian character.
A Board of Directors governs LCS in policy. The Elementary and Preschool Directors conduct the daily operation of the school. LCS is operated independently of any private or church affiliation. The Board and staff of LCS are committed to providing a quality academic program in a loving atmosphere that will honor God and His Word.
Lawton Christian School partners with Christian families to educate the mind, body and spirit within the context of a biblical worldview, equipping students to impact their culture for Christ.
The goals of Lawton Christian School have been shaped accordingly:
ACADEMIC: Each student is created by God with potential for individual contribution to the world God has made; therefore, each student should learn academic skills that will enable him to function constructively and critically in that world.
EMOTIONAL: Each child should have a confident and secure sense of his own value and personal worth as a creation of God.
PHYSICAL: Each student should recognize the body as a creation of God, and, in ways appropriate to his respective levels of physical and emotional maturity, should learn respect for and proper care of the body.
SOCIAL: Each student learns to cooperate with others because he recognizes that everyone is a child of
God, created to live and work together.
SPIRITUAL: Each student should learn to base his life on faith in God through Jesus Christ, and to integrate Christian values into all areas of life.
In addition, Lawton Christian School has set for itself two additional goals – one familial, another organizational.
FAMILIAL: The school will strive to encourage and support the stability and integrity of the family as the uniquely designed, God-ordained entity in and through which best to nurture a child.
6
ORGANIZATIONAL: The school will strive to govern itself and operate according to Christian principles.
We believe that men, divinely inspired by God, wrote the Holy Bible. All Scripture is without error and is totally true and trustworthy. (Psalm 19:7-10; Hebrews 1:1-2; 4:12)
We believe in only one true, living God. He is the Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer and Ruler of the universe. God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who exists as three distinct, but equal Persons. (Matthew 28:19)
We believe that man was created directly in God’s own image, after His own likeness and created without sin. However, by his free choice, he sinned against God and came under condemnation. (John 1:1-3;
Romans 5:12)
We believe that man is in need of salvation and that salvation comes only by faith alone in Christ Jesus, the Christ as revealed by the Holy Scripture to be the Son of God. (John 14:6)
We believe that Jesus Christ is all God and all man, born of a virgin, and born without sin as the Son of
God. (John 10:30; Luke 1:26-38)
We believe in Christ’s atonement as the voluntary substitution of Himself in the sinner’s place. He was crucified, buried and resurrected from the dead with a glorified body, on the third day. (Romans 5:8;
Matthew 20:18)
We believe heaven is the final abiding state of the redeemed and hell is a place of everlasting fire and eternal punishment for all who reject Christ. (John 3:15; Revelation 21:1-22:5; Revelation 20:12-15)
We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.
One or both parents must be a born-again Christian and regularly attending a Bible-believing church.
Students must abide by all LCS discipline, dress, academic and spiritual instruction. A student is not officially admitted until the following is complete.
1.
Interview of parent(s) and student with the administrative staff of the Preschool or Elementary.
2.
All enrollment papers complete.
3.
All fees paid.
Oklahoma State Law requires that each child entering school must have immunizations against certain diseas es. (See Appendix A.) Please provide Lawton Christian School with a copy of your physician’s record for your child.
7
“Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value but godliness has value for all things…”
(1Timothy 4:7-8)
“A student who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6:40)
1.
2.
LCS takes seriously its mission to educate “the total child”. The faculty and staff have pledged themselves, their time and their gifts to the daily implementation of a Christian education curriculum that seeks:
To glorify God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ with lives of celebration and service.
To provide each student with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and competence within the framework of a God-ordained universe.
3.
4.
To organize information and experiences in order to facilitate academic learning and mastery.
To prepare students for lives of commitment, service and contribution to God, to others and to themselves.
5. To prepare students for productive lives in an earthly culture, as well as for eternal life.
It is out of their own commitment to this mission that administrators, teachers and staff encourage each parent to become actively involved with them in the teaching process – the “education adventure”. Only if school and home work together can either one confidently hope to see the total development for each child.
“Let the wise listen and add to their learning…” (Proverbs 1:5)
Like those of other strong college preparatory schools, LCS curriculum and its graduation requirements are based upon the admission requirements of the most respected colleges and universities in the United
States. High school students are accepted into colleges based on ACT scores and other achievement tests. Lawton Christian School graduates, now either students or alumni at some of America’s most prestigious educational institutions, stand as testimony to the school’s high standards and to its program of quality preparation.
It is the belief of LCS that a quality education is the re sult of (1) a curriculum that integrates God’s Truth into all courses and adequately prepares the student for future educational endeavor; (2) teachers who uphold a Christian philosophy; and (3) classes which enable the student to derive maximum benefit from his or her academic exposure.
Each student is expected to use all available school and home resources and to perform at his or her highest level in order to take full advantage of the educational program. His or her originality and creativity are encouraged within the organized framework of the classroom.
8
LCS offers the A Beka curriculum with a phonics-based reading program in a self-contained, traditional classroom setting. We also use Saxon math, a sound mathematical curriculum in the upper elementary.
Other approved curriculum is used when needed to give your student the best education possible.
Students enjoy instruction outside the classroom in music, physical education (P.E.), computer, art, and library.
We will always be updating our curriculum to offer the very best for our students. We set high standards so that you can be proud of what students have learned at Lawton Christian School.

Chapel is held once a week. This is a time of praise and worship as well as instruction from God’s Word.
Chapel speakers include staff and known speakers. Students are asked to attend chapel with an attitude of worship and attentiveness to God’s Word. They are expected to display proper conduct and respect.
Parents are encouraged to join our Chapel services.
Bible classes are conducted each morning by the staff except for Chapel day. During this time, needs may be shared for prayer. Praise reports are also given at this time. Each student will learn Scripture appropriate for each grade level. Students receive a Bible grade based on participation and Bible memorization. Each student (1 st -6 th ) is required to bring an individual Bible to class. Check with your teacher for the translation being used.

Kindergarten for 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s.
Students will receive a report card designed specifically for their curriculum.
10
At the mid-point of the first three grading periods, the school will issue a progress report on each student.
At the mid-point of the fourth grading period, teachers will send home a report only if deemed necessary.
A report card will be issued to each student at the end of every quarter. It must be returned signed within one week of its issuance.
An “incomplete” (I) is given when work has not been completed. The student and the parents are responsible for working with the teacher to get the work caught up as soon as possible. Credit will not be given for work that has not been completed.
Any student who fails two or more courses for the final reporting period will automatically be placed on academic probation upon enrolling for the next school year. Summer tutoring will be required. The student will have to be tested in August before going to the next grade.
A student may be put on probation for a time determined by the Elementary or Preschool Director for insufficient academic progress or for failure of the parents to get recommended professional help for students with excessive learning difficulties.
Academic probation is invoked when a student has a serious academic problem. It is intended to give notice to the parent and student so a mutual effort on the part of both school and home may be made to correct the deficiency. Hopefully, the deficiency will be improved to a satisfactory or passing level. If not, the Elementary or Preschool Director will decide if the student will be able to continue at LCS.
Academic probation will be invoked in the following manner:
1.
A student who received one “F” at the conclusion of a grading period will be placed on academic probation for one grading period. The student will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities during this grading period.
2.
A conference will be held with the parents, the student, the teacher(s), and the Elementary or
Preschool Director to give an explanation of the probation and suggestions for remediation.
3.
The Elementary or Preschool Director will review the academic status of the student at the end of the next grading period.
4.
After being placed on probation, a student who does not receive an “F” the next grading period will be removed from probation. Extracurricular activities may be resumed.
5.
After being placed on probation, if a student receives one “F” the following grading period, the
Elementary or Preschool Director will decide if the student will be allowed to remain in the school.
11
A student may be suspended for failure of the parents to get recommended help for students with excessive learning difficulties.
In addition to the classroom subject-oriented testing that is part of the on-going educational process, LCS annually administers standardized tests for the benefit of its students. The Stanford Achievement Test will be given in the spring for 3 rd -5 th grades. Achievement tests will not be made up if a student is absent.
Homework is a part of the student’s school experience. The amount of homework varies according to the needs of each student. It is usually for review while other times it is because the student is not using time wisely in class. Parents can greatly assist the student by ensuring that homework assignments are being done and by creating home conditions that are conducive to study. Homework is not assigned on
Wednesday or Friday, unless a student has not completed work done in class. Parents are expected to check their child’s assignment notebook each day and sign when the work is completed. Please talk to your child’s teacher if you feel that homework is excessive.
LCS has three honor rolls. The Superintendent’s Honor Roll is for those students with all “A’s”. Students who have an overall “A” average (A’s and B’s) will be on the Principal’s Honor Roll. Students with no grade l ower than a “B” who have an overall “B” average will be on the A/B Honor Roll.
The LCS library is available for all grades to use. Students should become acquainted with the resources available to them and make the best use of the books, magazines and audio visual materials. Donated books are always appreciated.
Once a month at our Awards Chapel , students from each class are chosen to be student of the month based on a particular characteristic of Christ that the teacher has seen in that student. All students of the school will be awarded at a chapel sometime in the school year. Parents are notified before the Awards
Chapel so that they may come watch their student receive the award. Students are given a medal and a certificate and will have their picture taken for the school bulletin board.
Graduation from kindergarten is an important event at Lawton Christian Preschool. Parents and family members are invited to join us for a graduation ceremony and reception to celebrate the momentous occasion.
12
RenWeb is an effective communication tool between parents, students, and teachers. Parents and students can access grades through RenWeb on the web at www.renweb.com
. There is also a link on the school website www.lcscrusaders.com
. Parents can send e-mail to teachers directly through the system. Likewise, teachers may send e-mail to parents through the system regarding a specific assignment, behavior issue, etc.
Please note: A hold will be placed on RenWeb use and availability for tuition accounts more than 30 days delinquent.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12)
LCS desires that all students learn to base their lives on faith in God, to integrate Christian values into all areas of life, to respect and cooperate with teachers and fellow students, and to develop self-discipline.
The administrator and faculty seek to foster and maintain an environment conducive to Christian conduct and academic excellence.
Students, therefore, are expected to behave in a way that helps develop such an environment. While enrolled at LCS, students have the responsibility to observe the school’s standards of conduct and to respect the rights of others whether on or off campus, during regular school hours or at special times. To guarantee a good social and educational climate, it is important for students to understand that acceptable standards of behavior will be expected at all times.
General standards of conduct for students at LCS include the following:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
To show respect toward God and His Son, Jesus Christ, toward their fellow students, toward school personnel, toward school and private property, toward outside individuals and toward themselves.
To know and obey all school and classroom rules.
To tell the truth and to exhibit uncompromising academic and personal honesty at all times.
To communicate Christian priorities, values and principles in their manner of dress, demonstrating modesty and good taste at all times.
To conduct themselves in a manner that contributes to a peaceful and positive school day experience, not one that distracts from or disturbs the teaching/learning process or creates undue stress for others.
“My son do not despise the Lord’s discipline . . . because the Lord disciplines those He loves, as a father the son he delights in.” (Proverbs 3:11-12)
Discipline is the overall condition of order and control created by training, teaching, restraint and example.
Such an environment should be created in the home and at school to develop the desirable characteristics of obedience, respect, kindness, understanding and love. The desired learning process can only take place in such an environment.
13
Even as God our Father disciplines in love, so the staff at LCS will endeavor always to discipline in love.
Discipline is to instruct and to remind us of God’s line of authority as revealed in His Word. It is administered in compassion with forgiveness and restoration.
If questions arise concerning measures of discipline used in the school, parents should realize that a student will often report from an emotionally biased viewpoint in which all facts may not be presented.
Parents should support the school to their children and call the teacher for facts. Every effort will be made by the teacher to keep parents informed of any major disciplinary action taken.
Christian standards dictate a loving and forgiving atmosphere for teaching and learning. Parents are expected to encourage their children to cooperate fully with all policies and rules of the school.
We lovingly work with all of our students to build Christian character. Because we love the students so much, we cannot allow them to continue inappropriate behavior (that which destroys property or is destructive or disrespectful to another student or staff). Teachers positively motivate students to do their best in their class work, in respecting staff, in respecting other students, and in respecting school and personal property. Teachers will work with the students to continually build character. The teacher may deem it necessary to give the student a time out (from recess or another fun activity), give the student appropriate sentences to write, have the child call a parent, etc.
If the student is unwilling to change the negative area, the student will be sent to the office to speak with administration. If the student does not willingly turn the situation around, the parent will be called and the student may receive discipline or have to be dismissed for the rest of the day. If the student continues in the negative behavior, he or she may receive suspension from school for an amount of time deemed appropriate by the administration. If the student still does not change, the student could be expelled from school.
Discipline will be administered when any individual’s actions interfere with the right of the teachers to teach and the students to learn . When disciplinary measures are necessary to correct a problem, the following procedures will be followed:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Problems in the classroom will be corrected between the teacher and the student.
Teachers will consult with the student’s parents if the problem persists.
At the discretion of the teacher, the infraction may be brought to the attention of the pre-school or elementary director for help in solving the situation.
The nature and seriousness of the offense may involve the parent in a conference with the
Elementary or Preschool Director and the student.
The type and severity of the disciplinary response shall be related to the seriousness of the offense, the student’s demeanor and attitude and the student’s previous discipline record.
Reasons for serious and/or repeated offenses will be discussed between the student and the principal or pre-school director in an attempt to determine a source for these occurrences and with hopes to eliminate that source to the satisfaction of all involved.
7.
8.
There are different causes and degrees of unacceptable behavior; therefore, there should be different responses. LCS wishes to differentiate between acts of immaturity/foolishness and acts of willful disobedience.
The decision of the pre-school or elementary director is final unless the directors deem it necessary to involve the Superintendent. In this case, the decision of the Superintendent is final.
14
The teachers at Lawton Christian Pre-School and Elementary are given the responsibility for basic discipline in their classrooms based on positive motivation. Students are responsible for their actions and should conduct themselves in keeping with their level of maturity, showing care and respect for fellow students and persons in authority. At no time should a student be discourteous in speech or in action to a teacher. Administrative actions will follow a challenge of authority.
Each teacher will make an effort to work with the student to remove any problem that may arise.
Whenever possible, the teacher will work out a problem with the student without administrative involvement. However, a student may be sent to the principal or pre-school director for additional action at the discretion of the teacher.
Additional Work.
Work assignments done during play, break time, before or after school
Sentences.
Sentences for character building may be used. Parents will be required to sign the sheet that they are aware of the problem and support the school in building character in their student.
Loss of Play Time (K-5 th ). 5-10 minutes spent sitting quietly or walking laps during recess with supervision.
Loss of Privileges (K-5 th ).
Not able to serve as line leader, teacher’s helper, etc.
Call to the Parent.
The student will have to call a parent under the supervision of the teacher to let the parent know what problem is at hand in order to get the support of the parent to resolve the conflict.
Note Home.
A report will be given concerning a specific problem area.
Other.
The teacher will confer with administration on other steps that should be taken by that teacher.
CORPORAL CORRECTION: A paddling will be administered by the principal or pre-school director with another staff member present in the room. A wooden paddle will be used. Three (3) swats will be given.
The principal or pre-school director will make every attempt to contact parents before administering discipline to give parents the opportunity to come to school and administer correction. If a parent cannot be located, the administrator will discipline the student and follow-up with the parent as soon as possible.
After administering the discipline, the staff member will pray with your child assuring him or her of their lov e and the child’s worth and value.
PROBATION: When a student has a serious problem, that student may be placed on probation and given an opportunity to correct his problem. The principal or pre-school director will decide the length of probation.
Reasons for Probation
Attitude
A rebellious spirit that is unchanged after much effort by the teachers.
A continued negative attitude and bad influence upon the other students.
15
Disciplinary
Continued deliberate disobedience.
Committing a serious breach of conduct inside or outside of school that has an adverse effect upon the school’s testimony.
Invoking Probation
The probation will take place after the administrator has reviewed the student’s behavior, attitude and/or academic performance. Parents will be notified and an explanation of the probation will be given.
Probation Period
The principal or pre-school director will determine probation following discussion with the parents and the student. Student activities will be relinquished during this time.
SUSPENSION: A student may be suspended from school after a parent-administrator disciplinary conference. The administrator will determine the length of time. Very specific changes in attitudes and actions will be expected prior to re-admission. At re-admission, a parent-student-administrator conference will be necessary for the student to return to school. Work missed during any suspension must be completed and turned in upon return. No late work will be accepted.
Reasons for Suspension:
The principal or pre-school director has at all times the authority to suspend a student. The principal or pre-school director will determine the length of the suspension.
The reasons that would give cause for suspension are:
1.
A continued deliberate disobedience/disrespect displayed.
2.
A rebellious spirit that is unchanged after much effort by the school staff.
3.
A continued negative attitude and bad influence upon other students.
4.
A serious breach of conduct inside or on grounds of the school that has an adverse effect upon the image of the school.
5.
Failure of the student to comply with the disciplinary actions of the school.
Expulsion may be recommended for a student at any time when the administration deems it an appropriate disciplinary action. The student is not eligible for re-enrollment the following academic year.
Restitution is required for any act of theft, vandalism, or willful damage to the school or individual property. Students may be assigned to a school-supervised work detail. Students and their parents might be required to pay for damage through a plan worked out with administration.
16
School safety is a priority issue for Lawton Christian administrators, teachers, staff and the S.E.M.A.
Board. Any student involved in the following offenses will be subject to suspension or expulsion determined by the administrator and principal. Other methods may also be used in disciplining the student(s):
1. Direct or indirect threats of physical violence on any student or adult
2. Fights, assaults or physical altercations
3. Possession of a weapon (any type of gun including BB, pellet, bullet, etc., and all
types of knives)
4. Possession, use, distribution, sale, or being under the influence of any alcohol,
controlled substances, illegal drugs, look-alike drugs, or drug paraphernalia
Conduct grades on progress reports and report cards are indicators to both the student and parents concerning the attitudes and behavior of the student. Appropriateness of response to authority, manners, relationships, willingness to do work, attitudes toward other students and staff, and following school policy are some of the criteria for the assignment of the conduct grade. Christian character is a very important factor reflected in the conduct grade. Conduct grades are as follows:
E = Excellent
S = Satisfactory
N = Needs improvement – conference suggested
U = Unsatisfactory – conference required
The LCS dress code is based on neatness and modesty with an aim toward creating an environment conducive to study and activities. Dress code information may be obtained in the school office. The school has selected nice-looking clothing that is durable and inexpensive. Students must follow the dress code as outlined. The administration reserves the right to assess noncompliance with the dress code.
Boys may not wear earrings. Boy’s hair length must be above the ears and eyebrows and not go below the collar line.
Girls must dress modestly. Girls may not wear bandanas or kerchiefs on their head. Hair accessories must match school colors. Elementary girls are not allowed to wear heavy makeup.
Boys and girls: Hair dyed in bright colors and extreme faddish hairstyles are unacceptable.
“There is a proper time and procedure for every matter.” (Ecclesiastes 8:6)
Lawton Christian School requires students to attend school each day that the school is open for class.
The teacher and the school office will document absences.
17
Lawton Christian School places a limit on the number of absences a student may accumulate in a class and still receive credit for that class. Ten (10) days absences per class per semester are the maximum allowed in order for a student to be able to pass to the next grade. This includes absences due to tardies
(3 tardies = 1 day of absence). If your child is going to be absent, please contact the school office.
The school will not issue credit for any semester in which a child is absent more than ten (10) days unless it is in the event of a severe medical emergency (such as an accident or surgery) and is documented by a doctor’s statement and all school work is made up.
Absence due to travel will be excused only if permission is obtained from the administration in advance and the absences due to travel do not make the student go over the allotted absences for the semester or year. A written request must be submitted at least seven (7) days before the anticipated absence. (No one with excessive absences, low grades or a poor conduct record should expect to obtain permission).
After receiving permission to be absent, the student must arrange with his teachers to complete all assigned work (a) before leaving on the trip, or (b) by a later time set by the individual teacher. If the work is not completed according to the agreed schedule, the student will not receive credit for the missed work.
A student may leave campus during school hours only for doctor’s appointments that cannot be made after school hours. The parent must sign the child out in the office before a student leaves either campus.
If that student returns to campus the same day, he must record his arrival in the office.
School begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. at the elementary and at 8:40 a.m. at the preschool. Students may arrive as early as 8:20 a.m. without having to pay morning care charge. Students arriving to class after
8:30 a.m. at the elementary and 8:40 a.m. at the preschool will be considered tardy. Parents will need to sign their child in at the office. The teacher will record each tardy. Three tardies will be considered one day’s absence.
Persistent tardies often affect the attitude of the student for the day and may cause the student to repeat a grade. Being late can also affect the quality of class work. Please be a good steward of time for your children.
Truancy is an absence without the knowledge and consent of the parents and/or school staff. This will not be tolerated.
The student is responsible for completing work missed. The student should coordinate with the teacher for getting this done as soon as possible after an absence. A student who was in school the day before a scheduled test will be required to take that test when he returns to school. In general, students are allowed one day for each day missed to do make up work.
18
When inclement weather conditions warrant cancellation of school, information will be announced on
KSWO television (Channel 7, ABC), RenWeb’s Parent Alert system, and the school website.
Once students are at school it is very rare for them to be dismissed early. Parents will be notified if a situation warrants this action.
Morning care is available for students arriving any time between 7:00 – 8:15 a.m. All students arriving after 8:15 a.m. will not have to pay the morning care charge.
Students must remain with their teachers and class until ready to depart unless their parents accompany them. Students who are not picked up by 3:10 p.m. will go to Extended Care where a charge will be assessed. There are no exceptions. Students will not be allowed to walk around campus without adult supervision. After-school supervision (Extended Care) is closed at 6:00 p.m. each evening. When a student is left in Extended Care after 6:00 p.m., a fee of $1.00 per minute will be charged no matter
if the parent has called or not.
“Everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.” (I Corinthians 14:40)
We ask parents to enter and exit the car line area with extreme caution so that we may protect our students. All students must be put in a seatbelt or other restraining system before leaving the campus.
Parents should drive with caution for the safety of everyone.
Please do not stop to talk with teachers or other staff in the car line as many cars are trying to pick up children and get to appointments or back to work. Please let the teacher know by note or phone call that you need to spend time with them.
Cell phones are not allowed at school for preschool and elementary students. No music devices, including iPods, cd players, mp3 players, etc. are permitted on the LCS campus. The same applies to hand-held electronic games.
Families of LCS should inform the administrative office immediately if they change their home address or their home or work telephone number.
19
Please notify the administrative office if you change your church membership.
In compliance with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we are able to inform you that an Asbestos Management Plan has been filed with the EPA and information concerning the management plan can be made available through the high school office.
Field trips are planned periodically throughout the year for recreation, ministry and educational purposes.
Parents are asked to take an active role in planning and participating in these outings.
The school encourages parents, grandparents, and other friends of Christian education to honor a student or relative by donating a book or videotape to the LCS library.
The student’s name will be put on a nametag on the book’s front inside cover or on the tape’s case.
Memorial gifts will be done the same way with the person being honored.
Lawton Christian School also gratefully accepts monetary and other gifts donated to support excellence in
Christian education. We do not receive state funds as the public schools do so we need your contributions.
Students may bring their own lunch or they may purchase one at the lunchroom. Drinks may also be purchased if one is not provided in their lunchbox. They will eat in the school lunchroom unless special arrangements have been made for eating elsewhere. Please do not send microwave meals with your child. Teachers and students do not have time to microwave food items.
A menu will be given out at the beginning of each month listing all food and drink items available. You may pay by the day, week or month by sending your lunch money in a marked envelope with your student.
Students are expected to use good manners in the lunchroom. They will also be expected to clean up their own eating area when they are finished eating.
20
Parents will be notified if there is going to be a special celebration in the classroom and parents need to send treats. Otherwise, please do not send treats, snacks or goodies without prior approval of the teacher.
Birthdays are recognized by each teacher in a special way. Please check with your child’s teacher before sending any birthday treats. No gifts are to be brought or sent to the school for the birthday child.
Invitations will not be distributed through the child’s folders for parties on or off campus unless the entire class is invited. If a child desires to invite only certain children to their party, invitations must be mailed to the recipient at the family’s expense.
The administration continuously reviews school security requirements and arranges for appropriate security measures as the situation dictates. Plans are in place in the event of security problems during the school day or during after-school activities.
Students may use the phone only when given permission by the Office Manager, Elementary or
Preschool Director. Administrative staff or teacher will monitor student’s calls.
Every school year, LCS will have both tornado and fire drills. The staff will explain these to the students.
We will have drills throughout the year so that all staff and students will know what to do in case of emergency.
LCS does not provide transportation. Carpools are less expensive and are a more efficient means of transportation.
Parents are always welcome in the school. A parent wishing to talk to a student’s teacher should make an appointment. Parents may not take up the teacher’s time while that teacher is to be working with students. All visitors should check in at the office upon arrival.
“And all of thy children shall be taught of the Lord and great shall be the peace of thy children.” (Isaiah
54:13)
The ultimate responsibility for the student rests with the parent. It is important for parents to take an active interest in the student’s education. For this educational process to be the most successful, parents must enter into partnership with the teachers and administrators of the school and work together as a team. This partnership includes the following:
21
1.
Maintaining an active interest in the student’s academic achievement by monitoring development, assisting in home assignments and supporting the activities of the school.
2.
Maintaining a Christian home and keeping a solid, Christian foundation under the student at all times.
3.
Sending students to school with proper attention having been given to health, personal cleanliness and neatness of dress, bearing in mind that they are representatives of Christ.
4.
5.
Supporting the personnel of the school and its rules and regulations.
In matters where there is lack of clarity or where there is a disagreement with the school, the
Matthew 18 principle should be followed – go to the person to resolve the problem quickly rather than talking about it before the student.
6.
Attending school functions and becoming involved with the Parent/Teacher Fellowship to promote school spirit and unity.
7.
8.
Attending individual parent-teacher conferences.
Practicing good Christian stewardship by keeping all accounts with the school up-to-date.
Lawton Christian School believes it is very important for school and home to work together. In order to promote effective communication and understanding, parents are asked to cooperate with the following guidelines:
1.
Parents will have the privilege of meeting with their child’s teacher(s) as designated on the school calendar.
2. Teachers will use notes, phone calls, and regular progress reports as needed to communicate with the parents.
3. It is important that parents schedule a conference with the teacher whenever a need or concern is evident. Parents should call the school to set up an appointment for all conferences. Many needs can be met through a simple conference between parents and teacher. Please do not try to discuss conference matters during class time when the teacher is working with the students.
The Elementary or Preschool Director is interested in all areas concerning students and the school and will be available for parent-teacher conferences after the initial parent-teacher contact has taken place. Please limit calling the teacher at home so that our teachers can have their own rest and family time.
22
Occasionally, there will be disagreements between parties associated with Lawton Christian School.
Matthew 18 provides the basic principles that must be used to solve these situations. (Matt. 18:15-19).
Adherence to this procedure will strengthen unity and accord with our campuses. The steps of this process are outlined below.
1. If there are disagreements between two parties associated with LCS whether it is between staff members, parents and staff or students and staff, a conference should be arranged between the parties and efforts should be made to solve the problem. Communication and understanding at this level will solve most problems.
2. If no agreement is reached, the Elementary or Preschool Director will arrange to meet with both parties and mediate the concern. Appropriate steps or plans will be suggested to resolve the difficulty.
3. If either party is not satisfied with the results of the process, they may arrange to meet with the
Elementary or Preschool Director who will probably meet individually and collectively with the involved parties. At this time the principal or pre-school director will decide what steps should be taken to help resolve the situation.
4. Appeal to the LCS Board is possible in matters of interpretation of school policy or in matters not currently covered in existing policies only if the steps set out in this grievance procedure have been followed. In matters dealing with personnel and day-to-day operations of LCS, the decisions of the
Elementary or Preschool Director are final. On all matters, the school board is the final authority of
LCS and their decision is final and binding.
All appointments should be made for after school. If it is absolutely necessary for a child to leave early for a medical appointment, the office needs to be informed. No child will be released to anyone other than those authorized by the parents.
1.
Students are not to bring any medication to school unless it is absolutely necessary.
2.
If a student must bring a non-prescribed medication to school, i.e. acetaminophen, antihistamine, the parent must inform the teacher. The same holds true for prescribed medications.
3.
All prescribed medications must come in the original container and must be given to the office along with complete dosage instructions. The pharmacy will issue a courtesy medication bottle for school at the parent’s request. LCS is not liable for medications sent from home.
4.
No student may at any time give medication to another student. All dispensing goes through the office. There are no exceptions.
Parents should report all contagious diseases to the school at the earliest possible time. This will help when other students in the class develop symptoms. These diseases include chicken pox, pink eye, impetigo, ringworm, mumps, meningitis, lice, gastroenteritis, intestinal parasites, mononucleosis, measles, German measles, hepatitis, scabies, scarlet fever, whooping cough, severe upper respiratory infections and any other infectious problems.
23
A child must have written consent from either a physician or the Health Department to return to school and be subject to school office approval for re-admission. The Elementary or Preschool Director reserves the right to make the final judgment based on its responsibility in the best interest of the staff and other students.
If your child is sent home because they have a temperature above 99 degrees, they may NOT return to school the next day . They must be free of fever for a FULL 24 hours before returning. This means you cannot give them Tylenol or Motrin to lower the fever and send them to school anyway. We have found that when children are given fever reducers before school, this wears off during the morning, and their fever rises again. When the body’s temperature is elevated, this shows there is some kind of illness that the body is fighting. If you lower your child’s temperature using a medicine, that does not mean they are well. They are still sick until the body does not need the medicine anymore to keep the temperature at a normal level.
We suggest that after the child has been home and free of fever for at least 24 hours, at that point please test their temperature before any medicines are given to get a clear picture as to whether they are still sick.
Deposits and Fees – All enrollment, academic, and activity fees are non-refundable.
Tuition – Students are considered enrolled for the entire school year; therefore, budgets and teacher contracts are set accordingly. The withdrawal of a student creates a significant hardship for the school.
Only job transfers out of the area (50 mile radius) with documentation and a 30-day notice will be accepted in regard to refunds of prepaid tuition. All other cases will need to appeal to the Board of
Directors. A full month’s tuition is due for any month in which the child attends even one school day.
Official transcripts, report cards, and records cannot be released or sent to other schools with an outstanding balance remaining at LCS.
Activity Fees – Fifth graders participating in band will be charged a fee of $100 activity fee.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Luke 12:31)
Lawton Christian Primary offers extracurricular sports for students from age 4 through 5 th grade. The purpose of athletics at LCS is:
1.
To develop a quality program of Christian athletics which honor Christ in athletic competition.
24
2.
To develop the spiritual nature of the student so that the Holy Spirit is in control and directing the student’s mind and body.
3.
To build positive Christ-like character qualities in students and to express these qualities openly through the medium of athletics.
4.
5.
To build eternal values in students by stressing attributes and actions in relation to God’s Word.
To develop the abilities and skills of each student.
1.
Sportsmanship is simply being honorable and courteous. While striving to win, each player should be concerned that opponents have an equal and fair opportunity.
2.
The rules of the game are to be regarded as mutual agreements, the spirit and letter of which will be observed by all honorable persons.
3.
The decision of the officials should be respected and accepted.
4.
Players should consider opponents as having honest intentions although their points of view may not be agreed with or their actions approved.
5.
Each player should pursue a course of individual conduct and team action that will seem honorable if it were known to one’s opponents or the public.
6. Whether you are a visitor or a host, “Do unto others the way you would like for them to do unto you.”
