Materials
• TEXTBOOK: SPECIALIST MATHEMATICS
UNITS 1 AND 2 (CAMBRIDGE), MICHAEL
EVANS ETC
• 2 exercise books (notes and workbook)
• Casio Classpad Calculator (FX-CP400)
• Stationary including (pens, pencils, ruler
etc…)
Satisfactory Completion
To satisfy the outcomes of this course and
pass General Maths Specialist, you must
complete the following Outcomes (S/N result):
Outcome 1 - Skills
Define and explain key concepts, in relation to the topics from the
selected areas of study, and apply a range of related mathematical
routines and procedures.
This outcome comprises exercises from textbook, assignments,
worksheets and tests. At least 80% of bookwork must be
completed; at least 40 % score on tests.
Satisfactory Completion
To satisfy the outcomes of this course and
pass General Maths Specialist, you must
complete the following Outcomes (S/N result):
Outcome 2 – Applications
Apply mathematical procedures in non-routine contexts, analyse
and discuss these applications of mathematics in at least three of
the areas of study.
Application / investigation tasks will be used as the major
assessment in this outcome.
Satisfactory Completion
To satisfy the outcomes of this course and
pass General Maths Specialist, you must
complete the following Outcomes (S/N result):
Outcome 3 - Use of Technology
Use technology to produce results and carry out analysis in
situations requiring problem-solving / modelling / investigative
techniques in all the areas of study, i.e. use of CAS calculator.
Technology active tests and exams are used as the major
assessment in this outcome.
How to get an S
• Attend at least 90% of lessons
• Complete at least 80% set tasks
• Achieve a “Satisfactory” for each of the
three outcomes to get an “S” for the
unit
Assessment
Letter grading of UG to A on the following:
• Bookwork (80% completion of checklist
questions)
• Topic tests (technology active and free, minimum
40% of total marks)
• Analysis - Analysis / investigation tasks (minimum
40% of total marks)
• Examination
There are two examinations for each Unit. The
Technology Free Exam consists of short answer
questions and the Technology Active Exam consists of
multiple choice and short answer / analysis questions.
Work Strategies
• The outcome list for each chapter – the
MINIMUM number expected.
• Asking for help
– from teachers
– from peers
• Attending Mathematics Homework club on
Thursdays
• Revise MM work as Unit 1&2 MM is assumed
knowledge
Absences
• 90% attendance is required in order to
pass Units 1 & 2
• ABSENCE FROM AN ASSESSMENT
TASK
• You must deliver a medical certificate to
senior school, collect a slip and show it
to your class teacher.
• No medical certificate = no grade
