Scope Statement:
Historically, University of Windsor email addresses have been comprised of a UWinID followed by @uwindsor.ca.
In many cases, the UWinID is relatively hard to remember by other people, particularly those not associated with the University, and also when they need to initiate an email to a University member and don’t have access to a prior email from the intended recipient, an extra delay may be introduced if they first need to do a directory lookup to get the proper email address. This could result in a lost opportunity. Some UWinIDs were created for people that in no way reflect their name, resulting in some rather wild email addresses. These do not look proper and probably results in external contacts wondering about the professionalism of some recipients. Finally, since the UWinID is used everywhere as our common means of accessing academic and administrative systems, minimizing the exposure of these userids to the outside world is beneficial for security reasons.
This proposal, if implemented, will result in allowing Faculty and Staff to very easily request an additional, more personalized email address -- based on their first and last names as recorded in the Human Resources database.
Scope Boundaries:

Enable the storing of the new personalized email into the target directories

Translation of the UWinID-based email address into the personalized email address for email leaving the University

Accept email addresses as specified with the personalized email format for delivery to the recipient’s same mailbox as before

Creation of a webpage and application to add the personalized email address as selected

Ensure that all quarantined spam email is available from the spamq web application
 Announce the availability of the new email

