EXTERNAL FUNDING SOURCES COMSATS Lahore has engaged a lot of funding agencies so that a maximum number of students may get a support for their education. Some of these funding opportunities have been listed down as under: 1. SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIPS (PWWB QUOTA) COMSATS Lahore campus is built on the piece of land provided by the Punjab Labour Department. In appreciation of this gesture, COMSATS has reserved 30% quota in all the single degree programs for worker and/or their children. AMOUNT The Labour department is responsible for payment of all the expenses of the PWWB Quota students. It makes payments on behalf of the students against the tuition fee, hostel fee, and transportation cost. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA This scholarship is provided to the workers’ children/ workers as per the verified list of PWWB Committee. The worker needs to fulfill the following criteria: a) A person is qualified as a labor department worker if he fulfills the definition of worker as is defined in the industrial Relation Act, 2010. b) The worker should have a valid social security card. c) The worker should have a minimum work experience of 1 year in a factory registered under the Factories’ Act 1934 or Mines Act 1923. d) An organization will be deemed as a factory if it fulfills the definition of a factory as is defined in the Workers’ Welfare Fund Ordinance 1971 or Companies’ Profit Workers Participation Act 1968. e) Children of deceased/ disable workers are also eligible to apply for this scholarship provided that the worker/ miner was deceased/ disabled during service, registered under the EOBI/ Social Security, his widow/ legal heir got Death Grant from Punjab Workers’ Welfare Board, or receives pension from the EOBI/ Social Security. f) The worker/ miner or his child seeking admission should not have been involved in any illegal activity or criminal proceedings. PROCEDURE TO APPLY The candidates apply for this scholarship at the time of admission in all the Single Degree Programs. The candidates need to submit the following set of documents along with their admission application form at the time of admission: a) Worker/ miner’s CNIC. b) Worker/ miner’s Social Security Card/ Old Age Benefit Card. c) Worker/ miner’s Factory Card/ Employee Card mentioning his/ her designation. d) Worker/ miner’s Appointment Letter. e) The Factory Registration Certificate under the Factories’ Act 1934 or Mines Act 1923. f) CNIC/ Family Registration Certificate issued by NADRA of the prospective student. g) Worker/ miner’s Service Certificate and a certificate on his/ her good moral conduct. h) The candidate needs to sign an affidavit on a Rs. 20. Stamp Paper stating that if he/ she discontinues his/ her education, he/she will pay all the educational expenditures back to the Labour Department. i) In case deceased/ disabled worker/ miner, proof of receiving Death Grant/ Disability Pension needs to be submitted. AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIP After the closure of admission dates, the Scrutiny Committee from the labour department verifies the PWWB application forms and selects the forms as per their own rules and regulations. The list of selected candidates is uploaded on the CIIT’s official website. The selected candidates are required to submit a security deposit of Rs. 5000 only. (nonrefundable) SCHOLARSHIP CONTINUATION This scholarship is provided for a maximum of 8 semesters or the maximum duration of the student’s respective degree program. HEC NEED BASED SCHOLARSHIPS This year HEC has announced Need Based Scholarship Scheme for the first time. This scholarship is intended for the studious but financially constrained students. PUNJAB EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT FUND (PEEF) Students of COMSATS are also eligible to apply for the Punjab Education Endowment fund Scholarship.The main aim of this scholarship program is the creation of a pool of talented Pakistani youth; contributing towards economic and social development, to realize the dream of a moderate, progressive, and prosperous nation. AMOUNT The amount of this scholarship is equally distributed among the selected students, as received from the awarding body. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA To be eligible for this scholarship the student must have: Passed HSSC/Equivalent in first annual 2011 Secured at least 60% marks in the above mentioned examination Last Degree must be passed from any government institution Secured admission in a regular educational institution as a full time student in the current academic year Monthly income of parents/guardian (from all sources) of Rs. 15,000/- or less Must have domicile of the Punjab province. Not availing any other educational scholarship during the respective academic year PROCEDURE TO APPLY The scholarship forms will be available at SSC window # 8 when the scholarship is open. Student will fill in the form and submit it along with all the documents as mentioned in the scholarship form. AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIP The final selection of the students will be done by the awarding body i.e., PEEF after thorough scrutiny of the submitted forms. SCHOLARSHIP CONTINUATION The student will have to apply for the scholarship separately in each semester. The scholarship will be awarded on need and merit basis. QARZ E HASNA COMSATS has also signed an MOU with Ihsan Trust on 10.12.2012, according to which the students will be able to avail interest free loan facility. AMOUNT IT will provide this facility up to the tune of Rs. 1 million per batch per year, benefitting the maximum number of students possible. The number of students can vary but the total amounts being offered as the Qarz- Hasna will not exceed Rs. 1 million per batch per year. IT will provide Qarz-e-Hasna to any number of students of the COMSATS Lahore who could be accommodated in the total limit per year of Qarze-e-Hasna to COMSATS Lahore on purely “Merit-cum-Need” basis in the following manner: Ihsan Trust will provide 40% of the Tuition and other fee as Qarz-e-Hasna COMSATS Lahore will give up to 40% Qarz e Hasna of the Tuition and other fee. The selected student will contribute the remaining 20 % of the Tuition and other fee. If the student is unable to pay the 20% of his dues, then IT can increase its component of Qarz-e-Hasna to 50 %. However, the student will have to pay the remaining 10%.In the event COMSATS Lahore is unable to provide the stipulated up to 40% component due to lack of scholarship funding, IT’s 40% - 50% (depending upon clause 4.1.5) contribution will continue to be available to fund students if they are able to pay the remaining cost component. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA To be eligible for this loan facility, the student must first have to get admission at COMSATS Lahore as per the merit requirements and must be financially constrained. The award of this loan will be on merit-cum-need basis. PROCEDURE TO APPLY The students who get admission in COMSATS Lahore and are interested to avail this facility will apply on the prescribed forms. COMSATS will conduct selection processes to select meritorious, yet financially deserving students for providing this Qarz-e Hasna facility. IT will then be provided with the list of students who qualify COMSATS Lahore admission criteria and are eligible for admission. COMSATS will then provide IT the Financial Assistance forms and selection criteria of students for this Qarz-e-Hasna facility and also give its recommendation for the students to be given this facility. AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIP IT will further scrutinize all the student loan applications recommended by CIIT and the final selection will be made by IT. For providing this Qarz-e-Hasna facility to the students of COMSATS Lahore, special and specific agreement will be made with each selected student by IT. The agreement shall be between the student and IT and COMSATS Lahore will not be a party to the agreement. The initial selection will be carried out by the COMSATS Lahore and IT will conduct the final interview and appraisal before entering into agreement with the student for providing this Qarz-e-Hasna facility. IT will study the current COMSATS Lahore policies and procedures of financial assistance programs to provide input for the Shariah compliant transactions with respect to this Qarz-e-Hasna facility. All payments will be made in Pak Rupees, not later than 15 days following submissions of the fee invoices provided by COMSATS Lahore. Payments will be made through transfer of funds into the CIIT Lahore’s account to be maintained at any branch of Meezan Bank Ltd (MBL). Every payment to COMSATS Lahore will be made after prior approval of the Shariah Advisor and Founder Trustee of IT. It will be the sole discretion of IT (on the discretion of its Board of Trustees or Managing Director) to accept or reject any or all of the finally selected/recommended students by COMSATS Lahore. If any recommended student does not meet its requirement, the name of the student next in the priority list will be recommended by COMSATS Lahore. The decision of the Board of Trustees and Managing Director of IT will be final.
