As you carry out different activities, you will also develop skills in communication, information technology, using number planning and teamwork. Each tutor in the media team has a different specialist area; this will give you the opportunity to develop new skills in a varied amount of different subjects. You will be actively involved in filming, acting, making props/costumes, writing scripts, creating storyboards, researching, stop motion animation, drawing, radio and much more. All Coleg Gwent courses include a tutorial programme; this includes different activities that you can get involved in as a group. There is no exam at the end of the course; you are assessed throughout on coursework. More detail about this is included further on in this handbook. As a group and as a media department we will be organising educational visits that you are expected to make every effort to part in Additional support for full-time learners In addition to assisting you to achieve your main course, we aim to give you skills which will make you more employable or help you if you go onto further study. We provide an Induction qualification which helps you settle onto your course and gives important information about the course and the College. Through our tutorial system we develop your learning skills and teach you to evaluate your own progress. You will cover areas relevant to your particular course, along with topics which will allow you to broaden your knowledge and experience. To be successful in work or College you need to develop additional skills. These include communication, use of number, IT, working with other people, problem solving and continual self-development. You may have GCSE English for example, but can you discuss a topic confidently in a group? Can you apply the maths you used in school to day-to-day life? We give you the skills to do this, and more, to ensure you have more to offer an employer or future tutor than just your main course of study. 9 ASSESSMENT INFORMATION Throughout your course you will be assessed in a range of ways, these include presentations, a portfolio of work, educational visits, one 2 one tutorial and exhibitions. Assessed work will be internally verified by another tutor to make sure the assessment decisions are correct. An external verifier will then sample the work, usually at the end of the year, before certification is awarded. Deadline for Assignments You must submit assignments on the dates set by the course team in the assignment timetable. If you are ill in the week an assignment is due, the assignment must either be delivered to the College or posted. NB Remember to take a copy before posting. No excuses will be accepted for work that has gone missing. An extension for the assignment will only be given under special circumstance, which has been agreed between the lecturer and the learner. Please notify your Personal Tutor if you have problems or illness, which may prevent you completing an assignment. If you find that you are behind with any assignments you must contact your Personal Tutor in order to make a plan of action to help you complete your work. A formal progress review will take place with your tutor each term.
