Southern General hospital in Glasgow as part of regionalisation of the service.

RESEARCH
Research has a large part in my practice.
I carry our regular clinical research and supervise trainees’ research
At the moment I am involved in multicentre trial within the head and neck oncology
field including the role of selective neck dissection in the clinically negative neck and
the role of iodine staining in discerning dysplastic and neoplastic lesions.
AUDIT
As a consultant I personally audit my practice and many audit studies have been
prepared under my direction and some of these studies have been presented to local
and national meetings. At the moment I am auditing blood loss in major head and
neck surgery and the role of tie over dressings in skin grafts to the head and neck.
TEACHING
As a consultant there is regular teaching for the junior staff both didactic and clinical
with regular tutorials. I lecture to hospital staff, medical practitioners and dental
practitioners. I teach undergraduate medical and dental students including
participation of the PBL undergraduate medical curriculum. Supervision of student
electives has also been carried out. I am an Honorary Clinical senior lecturer with the
University of Glasgow. I also teach on national and international courses.
