• Prophet must be totally accurate or die.

I. Promised redeemer
•
Genesis 3:15 (ESV) I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between
your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his
heel.”
•
Matthew 1:18–23 (ESV) — 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way.
When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together
she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph,
being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her
quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take
Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She
will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from
their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the
prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call
his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
II. Promised through the Seed
of Abraham
• Genesis 22:18 (ESV) and in your offspring shall all the
nations of the earth be blessed, because you have
obeyed my voice.”
• Matthew 1:1 (ESV) The book of the genealogy of Jesus
Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
III. Promised Through Isaac
• Genesis 21:12 (ESV) But God said to Abraham, “Be not
displeased because of the boy and because of your slave
woman. Whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you,
for through Isaac shall your offspring be named.
• Luke 3:34 (ESV) the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the
son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
IV. Out of the Tribe of Judah
• Micah 5:2 (ESV) But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who
are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you
shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.
• Matthew 2:6 (ESV) “ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land
of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of
Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd
my people Israel.’ ”
V. Born in the Family of Jesse
• Isaiah 11:1 (ESV) There shall come forth a shoot
from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his
roots shall bear fruit.

Nahshon,
VI. Born in the House of David
(King)
• Jeremiah 23:5–6 (ESV) — 5 “Behold, the days are coming, declares
the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he
shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and
righteousness in the land. 6 In his days Judah will be saved, and
Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be
called: ‘The LORD is our righteousness.’

VII. Born in Bethlehem
• Micah 5:2 (ESV) But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to
be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is
to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.
• Luke 2:4–7 (ESV) — 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the
town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called
Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be
registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they
were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to
her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a
manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
VII. Born of a virgin
• Isaiah 7:14 (ESV) Therefore the Lord himself will give you a
sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and
shall call his name Immanuel.
• Matthew 1:18 (ESV) Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way.

IX. Worshipped and Presented
gifts by Kings
• Psalm 72:10 (ESV) May the kings of Tarshish and of the
coastlands render him tribute; may the kings of Sheba
and Seba bring gifts!
• Matthew 2:11 (ESV) And going into the house they saw
the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and
worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they
offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
X. Worshipped by Shepherds
• Psalm 72:9 (ESV) May desert tribes bow down before him, and his
enemies lick the dust!

Luke 2:8–20 (ESV) …15 When the angels went away from them into
heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem
and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to
us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the
baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the
saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who
heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary
treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the
shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and
seen, as it had been told them.
XI. Weeping for the Children
• Jeremiah 31:15 (ESV) Thus says the LORD: “A voice is heard in
Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping
for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children,
because they are no more.”
• Matthew 2:16 (ESV) Then Herod, when he saw that he had
been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent
and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that
region who were two years old or under, according to the
time that he had ascertained from the wise men.
XII. Flight to Egypt
• Hosea 11:1 (ESV) When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of
Egypt I called my son.
• Matthew 2:13–14 (ESV) — 13 Now when they had departed,
behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and
said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and
remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the
child, to destroy him.” 14 And he rose and took the child and his
mother by night and departed to Egypt
XIII. He will be called Lord
• Psalm 110:1 (ESV) The LORD says to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies
your footstool.”
• Luke 2:11 (ESV) For unto you is born this day in
the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
XIV. He is the Son of God
• Psalm 2:7 (ESV) I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to
me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.
• Luke 3:22 (ESV) and the Holy Spirit descended on him in
bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven,
“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
XV. A descendant of Abraham
• Prophecy – Genesis 12:1–3 (ESV) — 1 Now the LORD said to
Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s
house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a
great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so
that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and
him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the
earth shall be blessed.”
• Fulfillment – Matthew 1:1 (ESV) The book of the genealogy of
Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
XVII Of the house of David
• Prophecy – 2 Samuel 7:12–16 (ESV) —12 When your days are fulfilled and
you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who
shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall
build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom
forever. 14 I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he
commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes
of the sons of men, 15 but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I
took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. 16 And your house
and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall
be established forever.’ ”
• Fulfillment – “A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David,
the son of Abraham” (Matthew 1:1).
XVIII. Anointed by the Holy
Spirit
• Prophecy – “The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—the
Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel
and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the
LORD (Isaiah 11:2).
• Fulfillment – “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out
of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he
saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on
him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I
love; with him I am well pleased.’” (Matthew 3:16-17).
Questions:
• If this Baby in the manger is God, what will
you do for and to Him?
• Will you worship Him?

• Is Jesus the Christ? Then will you believe in
Him?
