What are the advantages of using mobile handheld devices? What are the
disadvantages?
Now a days handheld mobile devices are used for using internet, social media
applications, chatting which is the biggest source of communication and for some
applications which are specially designed for the business purpose such as DIAD. It
is very useful device. Sending and reading emails are become very easy and users
of handheld mobile devices are able to watch videos and enjoy the web services
and many more features. Everything have some advantages and some
disadvantages so like other things handheld devices have some disadvantages such
as peoples using internet by using handheld devices during their office timings and
enjoy the social media applications during driving which is really dangerous for
their lives.
What features are needed in a mobile to make it a business solution?
Business applications are needed in mobile to make a business solution. Now large
organizations develop their business application for mobile such as manager is also
able to check the attendance of the employees by using his/her mobile phone sales
record is also check by the manager whenever he want to check there is no
restriction
What business functions can be performed by using handhelds alone? How have
other companies utilized handhelds?
In a given example we examine the function which is performed by the handheld.
UPS is a best example of such company which is performing a value able business
function using handheld which save all the data of sender, receiver and parcel in a
database of the UPS which is easily access by anywhere by using mobile, laptop etc.
What are the inputs, processing, and outputs of UPS’s package tracking system?
United parcel service (UPS) is the best parcel service in the world. UPS using the
latest technologies and serving their customers. By using technology UPS created a
system by which they create a tag having a unique number and paste it to the parcel

and write down the sender and receiver details in handheld mobile and save these
details to the UPS server. Barcode reader is used to read that number and when
this number is entered into the UPS software it get all the details about package.
When parcel is delivered to the receiver driver get the signature of the receiver as
a delivery proof and upload the customer signature on database by using the
handheld and UPS software update the status of parcel which is delivered. Number
is also tell to the sender and sender is able to check the status of parcel in real time.
UPS tracking system is like GPS tracking system which shows the status of the parcel
of every second.
What technologies are used by UPS? How are these technologies related to UPS’s
business strategy?

By using these technologies UPS is able to provide quality services to its customers.
UPS have a most effective software which create a most effective route on the basis
of traffic, weather etc. That route is send to the driver for each parcel. By using this
software UPS save their time and money and improving their service performance.
What problems do UPS’s information systems solve? What would happen if these
systems were not available?
UPS information system introduce a new idea of tracking parcel in real time. Each
sender and receiver is able to track their parcel. If this feature was not introduced
peoples called UPS offices to know the status about their parcels and UPS call their
drivers and know the status of the parcels which was a big mess. So UPS is using an
effective and efficient information system which overcome the many challenges.
