Q PLUS 2 Each chapter has a set of questions (that’s the “Q”) for you to complete and hand in on the day of the chapter test / unit exam. Your answers to these questions should never be identical to someone else’s. You do not have to copy the questions and you can save time by answering in point form, if you wish. Always ask for help with answers before you hand them in. Once they are marked, it’s too late! Since you’re allowed to ask for help with answers before you hand them in and since I only mark some of the easiest questions, you should be able to get 100% (or close to it) for these question sets. The number of mandatory questions has been reduced to include only an “acceptable” standard of understanding. This allows for extra time to put towards studying for the tests. Most of the options below are designed to help you study for the tests. You will choose any two different options from the following list to hand in with each set of chapter questions (that’s the “plus 2”). These options will be graded on a 3-point scale: below average, average, above average. CHOOSE ANY 2 of the following options to hand in with each set of chapter questions: A) advanced questions – These are questions that are a little harder and would be great for students who want to challenge themselves. On the handout/webpage, they will be indicated with “EXC”. B) read and make additional notes – “standard of excellence” Read through the chapter and make additional notes on the topics. “Additional” notes means besides what I have already given to you in my notes. Hand in the notes. C) Flashcards at www.quizlet.com – Click on “Flashcards” icon on my webpage for more directions. After practicing with the flashcards, do the test (until you can get 100% - or close to it), print it and hand it in. To do the test, you have to change 2 things first: 1) change the default number of items from 20 to all the flashcards and 2) uncheck the box for written questions (computer marks these wrong even if they’re correct – because of spelling or wording differences). *You can also uncheck True/False (wording too weird!) and uncheck Matching (takes the most amount of time). *Scatter Game is good practice, too! – but it’s not a Q+2 option D) concept map (or other graphic organizer) – Connect the main ideas and key terms from the chapter into a concept map (1 full page). Use linking words between the items and brief to do this. E) vocab maps – For each of 5 difficult terms, take a piece of paper and divide it into 3 boxes. In one box, draw a sketch to illustrate the meaning of the word. In the second box write what the word means including important info. to know about this term. In the third box, list and explain other terms that are related to this one. F) current events – Find an interesting news article that has to do with a topic found in this chapter. Summarize what the article is about. Explain how this current event is related to this chapter. Give your opinion on what is happening with this current event. This should all take approximately half a page. Hand in article! G) create a crossword puzzle worksheet – Make a crossword puzzle to practice the important ideas in this chapter.
