INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES
Background
Age Concern Eastbourne is a medium-sized charity serving older people in Eastbourne and
surrounding areas. It was founded in 1948 and for most of its life it was a small organisation
operating from an office in Eastbourne and providing a limited range of services. In 1999, as a result
of a large donation from a local resident (Mrs Patricia Venton), it opened the William and Patricia
Venton Centre in Eastbourne town centre and since then it has grown considerably.
This has been achieved by increasing our income via our retail services and we have also been
fortunate with legacies. We now need to develop and extend our services in the Venton Centre and
within the community to better support older people.
Age Concern Eastbourne’s Services
Age Concern has a clear approach to the delivery of services and activities. Those services based at
the William and Patricia Venton Centre are for predominately active older people. We offer a set of
activities and interests which are designed to keep older people active – both physically and
