State Minister for Religious Affairs, Domestic Trade &
Consumer Affairs,
State Government of Penang
With less than six weeks to go, Halal Penang, the Halal Facilitation
agency of the Penang State Government has already gone into its full
momentum to organize the 2nd Penang International Halal Exposition
& Conference (PIHEC), a simultaneous event to be held from 25-27
February 2011.
The Halal Conference, themed ‘Creating Opportunities through Halal
Research’ is scheduled at Eastin Hotel Penang on 26 February 2011
while Halal Expo is a three-day showcase not to be missed at the
Penang International Sports Arena (PISA) from 25-27 February 2011.
PIHEC 2011 is supported by two media partners, the OIC Today
Magazine and Millenia Muslim Magazine and sponsored by
Dagang.Net, an aggressive Halal information portal provider. A soft
launch will take place at PISA right after the Expo ceremony, to
signify established collaboration between Halal Penang and
Dagang.Net for continuous development in the Penang Halal
industry.
PIHEC 2011 will continue to enhance Penang’s global branding, with
about 120 booths of local and regional exhibitors set to draw
domestic and international trade clients, business owners and endconsumers during this time. Extensive range of high quality Halal
items will be on exhibit, encompassing life sciences and
pharmaceutical products and services other than leatherwear,
apparel, seafood and many others.
Players from the banking sector such as SME Bank and Affin Bank
together with local traders and entrepreneurs are among the
exhibitors for Halal Expo this year besides insurance companies and
hospitality providers.
The Penang International Halal Conference highlights two parallel
tracts – ‘Halal R&D and Global Commercialization’ and ‘Halal Science,
Innovation & Shariah.’ Panel of speakers will comprise Halal experts
from Pakistan, Prince Songkla University and Chulalongkorn
University of Thailand, University Science Malaysia, International
Islamic University Malaysia as well as other local universities to
introduce innovations and generate solutions in the ever-growing
Biotech industry.
Halal companies/SMEs, universities and research institutes,
government department and agencies, science and business
communities as well as Islamic and trade associations constitute the
respective guests for the Conference.
The staging of PIHEC 2011 will pave the way for the State to be
established as a leading international Halal R&D centre.
The State Government of Penang, through its Halal facilitation
agency (PIHH Development Sdn Bhd, also known as Halal Penang)
has been earnestly striving for the growth of local entrepreneurs to
have the competitive edge in the global Halal scenes.
This is due to the growing global Halal market value (in trillion dollar
USD) and Penang is tapping its share in the Halal economy to
become a global Halal centre.
