In place of normal GLHS graduation requirements students were required to complete Michigan Merit Curriculum requirements through online coursework, as well as a Vocational course focusing on career preparation and financial literacy. Responsibilities included teaching the Vocational course, assisting students with their MMC courses, monitoring progress and attendance, collaborating with administration on individual plans for students, and building relationships and working closely with parents and caseworkers to aid students. My involvement in the classroom included lead teaching, planning, grading, assignment and assessment creation, communication with parents and colleagues, participation in parent-teacher conferences, and observation of mentor teacher during sections I was not responsible for. During this experience I also helped coach the school's wrestling team, helped advise the school's National Honor Society, and received extensive professional development through participation in department meetings, professional learning communities including lesson study, and special conferences. Sexton High School, Lansing, MI Fall 2011-Spring 2012 Placement included two hours, two days a week in an Honors US History classroom. My involvement in the class included observation, planning, research, teaching lessons, and assisting in in-class activities. Student Field Placement: Gardner Middle School, Lansing, MI Spring 2009 Placement included two hours a week tutoring students in an in-school detention program. In this placement I was often left to supervise and monitor the thirty plus students offering tutoring assistance across all subjects. Student Field Placement: Grand Ledge High School, Grand Ledge, MI Fall 2008 Placement included two hours a week tutoring students in a remedial math class. Tutor: Coalition for Literacy, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI Fall 2007 In this field experience I was placed at the Capital Area District Library’s downtown branch. My responsibilities for this experience included being assigned an at risk elementary school student reading below his grade level and then tutoring him. Responsibilities also include logistics of organizing and scheduling officials for tournaments as well as event management. This experience also included attendance to LEAD Conference in Chicago, IL for students and advisers. Outside of education my true passions are hunting and fishing, sports, and history. I enjoy most sports but have a special place in my heart for wrestling. I began wrestling in the eighth grade and have been involved in the sport ever since through officiating and coaching. I also enjoy a passion for school/community involvement. This began during my time in student government in Middle School and High School. Participating in National Honor Society also provided me with a constructive atmosphere for community service work.
