Part 3: Our Monitoring and Evaluation. Please answer ALL questions in Section 1-4, question 5 is optional.

Section A: Main Achievements

1.

Please tell us the top five things that your school has achieved in the School Enterprise Challenge

Competition. There are no marks for this question; however, your answers to this question help us to understand your school business better.

1.

We are able to utilize a lot of waste product in making handicraft material especially the material like thermocol which is bio non degradable, hence saving the environment, we could reduce ,reuse and recycle.

Encouraged parents involvement in the activities of the students. This helped in developing the parent and school relation much better.

It helped in developing entrepreneur ability among students, it helped developing communication skill among the students and the students learnt to work as a cohesive team. Communication skills, self-confidence, self-awareness, good work habits, problem solving, critical thinking, punctuality, Social like –accepting responsibility

,cooperating ,solving conflict, group decision making ,adopting a variety of group ideas

,commitment and habits to apply to any career goal. Reliability, teamwork, and leadership are learned in business classes.

It taught the students the value of money.

Students learnt how to incorporate philanthropy in the business. Helping the underprivileged with the profit of the business gave the business a broader sense of purpose and infused passion in the students and helped them to appreciate minor things in life that they have been blessed with.

Operational Plan: How did you actually produce your product/service? Please explain clearly your

production process. (10)

1. Waste was collected from various sources in the school.

2. This waste was segregated into different categories according to the handicraft to be made eg

paper, cardboards, cloth, thermocol etc.

3. Students were divided into different groups according to their talents, interest and skills and they

made handicraft material from the waste they segregated and the art teacher also guided them in

their work.

4. Apart from this many competitions were arranged in the school like Best out of waste, Fabric

painting wherein the students participated actively and these products made by the students were

sold.

Marketing &Sales: Did you actually sell your product/service to the customers identified on your

Market Research? If not, why? Who was your Target Market? (10)

1. Yes we were able to sell the product to the customers identified.

2. Parents, teachers especially who are nature lovers and conscious of saving the environment as well

as art lovers were identified as our target customers.

3. We organised the sales on open days and the parents, students and the teachers bought the

products and appreciated it for not only for being artistic and useful but also because it was eco

friendly.

Section C: Challenges and Solutions

What were the biggest challenges you faced when planning, running and/or implementing your

business and how did you overcome them? Please give us some evidence of your innovation and

creativity when solving these challenges (300 words max).(10)

The following challenges were faced while planning and running the business.

●Selecting limited students from a large group of enthusiastic and creative students was a challenge

●The waste required to make the product was easily collected but segregating waste according to the different types of products to be made was difficult.

●Besides the students had lots of innovative and creative ideas regarding the different products to be made out of such waste. Identifying products to be made which was practically possible within the limited resources and budget was also a challenge because we wanted to keep the price of our product low.

●The students who participated in the competition were from standard XII who have to appear for board exams. Running an enterprise required a lot of time. These students had to balance their academics with the responsibilities of school enterprise challenge.

TO OVERCOME THE ABOVE PROBLEMS

●We first listed down the different functions/activities to be done in our enterprise and the qualities to be required to carry out the activities like communication skill, leadership qualities, IT skills, artistic skills, innovation and creativity and selected the students on the basis of the sills and qualities requires for the business.

●We took the help of Art Teachers and even parents who were art lovers to segregate the waste on the

basis of the ideas of different products that could be made.

●Under the guidance of our creative and talented art teachers and some parents were finally able to make different products according to the interests of the customers. We also arranged for different books,

T.V shows and ideas from the net for the students to make innovative and creative products.

Whatever academics students sacrificed due the business enterprise challenge was compensated by the teachers by taking extra classes.

Section D: Outcomes

Aspirations: Aspirations are defined as a young person’s ambitions and realistic goals of the future

for themselves and their family/wider community.

●Some of the students of the school enterprise challenge team wish to take up business as their career and be their own bosses. They could identify their qualities as an entrepreneur and have planned to start their won business after leaving school.

●Some of the students who have participated in this programme have their won family business.

The skills which they have acquired and the knowledge which they have gained from this program has benefitted them and they have started taking initiative in their won family buinsess. b.

Knowledge Skills: Knowledge Skills are defined as the facts, information, and abilities acquired through experience or education.

Students acquired skills like data handling, Accounting, time management, entrepreneurship, production, Human Resource Management ,Making And executing business plan ,managing work with minimum resources, co-ordination with different parties related to the business. c.

Attitudes: Attitudes are defined as a manner of thinking, feeling or behaving that reflects a state of

mind or disposition; the way a person views something or tends to behave towards it.

●Students have learnt the value for money.

●Since the students utilized the profits earned for the underprivileged, they learnt to appreciate

things that they have in life and help the needy in the best possible the manner.

●During this programme the students came across different people with different mind sets hence

they learnt to respect individual differences. They have become caring, principled, risk –takers, knowledgeable, Reflective, inquirers, thinkers.

The school has earned the reputation of holistic development of students with the help of extra

curricular activities like The School Enterprise Challenge.

Since the parents were also involved in this programmes it helped in developing a better

bond/relationship between the school and parents.

People: How did people benefit from your business?

Out of the profit earned form the entire venture around 50% of the profit was utilized for the underprivileged students of Navrachana Navprerna.(Aanganwadi)

Anganwadi:- Anganwadi is a preschool for the under privileged children who cannot afford to get education.Such students are helped by the one Aanganwadis runned by sisterly concerned of Navarachna

Education Society where such individuals are provided with fine education that helps in their career growth.

Teacher’s quote: I appreciate the hard work put in by the students and this has inspired me to make good utilization of my waste. confidence in us and helped us in developing our personality.

Parent’s quote: Our kids have got a goods exposure through this competition and this competition has made them confident about their entrepreneurship skills and leadership qualities. They might become one of the leading businessmen or industrialists in the future.

Customer’s quote: I appreciate the hard work and the genuine efforts made by the students for our satisfaction. We would like them to develop other products on the same line.

Planet: What difference has your business had on the environment? How has your business

improved the environment around you? Please be clear and specific and include one or two

Our business made the best utilization of waste material i.e. best out of waste so it has helped in the best

disposal of waste which is a small step towards sustainable development of the country.

Profit: How did you raise your start-up capital? What approaches did you take to maximize your profits? What would you do with your profits? (5)

We raised the start up capital by organising a charity show.

To maximize our profit we made the best utilization of waste material available to us. This saved the cost of raw material to a substantial extent. This the reason we were able to sell at a reasonable price and not only increase our sales but maximized our profit.

A part of the profit will be donated to Navrachana Navprerna i.e. a school for the under privileged and the remaining profit will be reinvested in the business for its expansion.

Business Development - What are your future plans for your enterprise? Please provide specific

Since Vadodara is known as the Sanskar Nagri(City of culture) where all the festivals are celebrated with great pomp and ceremony we would like to develop our product in line with the

requirement of each festival.

During Navratri which is a 9 day festival of dancing we would sell traditional artificial jewelleries and decorative dandias.

During Diwali we have planned to sell decorative paper lamps. Besides we will buy dias made of clay and sell it after decorating it. We will also make readymade Rangolis and readymade decorative Puja Plates. We will make paper flowers and also flowers made from vegetable waste. This will also help us in utilising the vegetable waste generated in our school kitchen which we are not doing now.

We would also sell organic colours during Holi, the festival of colours.

People of Vadodara have started being aware of preserving the environment hence during

Ganesh Chaturthi environment friendly Ganesh idols are in vogue. We plan to make eco friendly

Ganesh idols from Paper or even chocolate.

During the festival of Moharram we plan to make ‘Tajias’ from paper.

For ‘ Rakshabandhan’ we plan to sell decorative ‘Rakhis’ which the sister ties in the hands of her brother.

We plan to sell friendship bands on Friendship Day and Gift Wrapped decorative items on

Valentine day in the Universities and Colleges of Vadodara.The citizens of Vadodara are crazy for

Handicrafts so we have a sustainable market here.

Operational Planning -How are you planning to run the business next year?Will new students be involved in the programme? Please tell us the steps you will take next year to keep your business running and continue developing it (200 words max). (5)

We plan to create a brand name of our own. For that ....

By going online for selling our material. We will register a domain name and create our own website to take orders. We will use it in all our labels, catalogues and brochures and all the other modes of advertisement.

We would create a distinctive identity of our product by creating interesting designs for packing. This will of course add to the expense of the product but also help us in creating a brand which people will trust.

We will organise exhibition cum sale of our products, go to fairs and festivals and other public places.

Besides using the websites like e bay or flipcart to sell our products, we will also use facebook and twitter to promote our products.

We will also resort to self proportion and make ourselves known by offering our products in the form of gift baskets to charitable institutions and organisations.

We will also run classes to teach people how to make best out of waste and this will help develop a brand name among people interested in this art and help us create a vital word of mouth advertising.

We will also diversify our product to give the consumer a wider choice.

A fund raising concert was organized in the school campus for arranging the capital. The students showed their keen interest and voluntarily participated in the concert. It was a multi-entertainment show which had music, group-dance, theatre etc. The Show was a success and we managed to collect more than decided sum of amount.
