GL3 1DL E-Mail; liz@gloslifestyles.co.uk Hello All We would like to wish you a belated happy and healthy New Year. Firstly a piece of bad news to start the year, unfortunately, Fran is no longer with us. We wish her all the best for the future. We will be advertising for new staff shortly but in the interim Ian, Julie, the volunteers, and I will be filling the gap. I hope you will bear with us if we have to make changes to times or events over the next few months but we will try and keep disruption down to a minimum. Now for the good news we have had our funding secured until September 2012. In March the County Council will be putting the Carers Service contracts out to tender. Hopefully our project, services, reputation, and business plan will stand us in good stead for winning the contracts. I hope you find February and March programmes meet you needs and likes but events and activities are always a bit tricky to source, at this time of the year, as places close for the season I would be grateful if you can return your selection sheets to us by Thursday 26th January The Introduction to painting & drawing group, which started in January, will run each week for the term but I haven’t added it to the programme as people won’t be able to join part way through. The garden group, at Dundry Nursery, is a free group where people can learn skills surrounding plant and vegetable growing, garden landscaping, and much more. The weekly sewing group is run as a self- help group. There is a tutor who will support you with techniques and ideas but we only drop in every couple of weeks, or so, to check everyone is ok and touch base. We don’t provide transport but please don’t let this put you off going. It’s a very friendly, happy group and it doesn’t count as part of your respite allocation. Information exchange We are now able to refer people who have disabilities and think they are entitled to benefits, or allowances, to the Department of Works and Pensions for a review. This is a free service carried out by trained DWP staff. Please contact the office if you would like to be referred. NHS Gloucestershire is currently seeking the views of patients, carers and key stakeholders regarding the musculoskeletal services in Gloucestershire. The event is by invitation only and places are limited. We should be grateful if you would register your interest with Sue Baker – sue.baker2@glos.nhs.uk tel: 08454 221461 – by Friday 20th January 2012.
